Nicely written but I am not able to recollect any scenes with people other than Asad when it comes to self-respect. In case of Asad, even in the initial episodes where there was no love or any kind of such feelings between them, Zoya does not have any self-respect.

In fact, I am not able to understand her character vis a vis Tanveer. She trust / believes her a lot (don't go by dialogues, its her action ), despite whatever she has done to her.

Its actually writing of convenience. CVs are not as thoughtful or god as some of you think.

Finally a post on Zoya :)
Read through a the whole chain of discussion. We can never relate to what Zoya feels for Asad as we are too practical and cynical. The thing which can be the closest for us to understand, is what parents feel for their new born (I am not talking here about the lousy/evil ones). The smartest set of parents can do the most foolish thing for their kids with a grin on their face.

On the flip side, its easier to relate to feelings of rejection/hurt/emotional blackmail as we experience them lot more than devotion(As you have rightly put, Zoya and Asad are devoted to each other) Hence we tend to be more vociferous about our views when it comes to rejection or hurt.

Damn, I missed all the fun!! 😆 Why was I so busy today? Too late and too tired to join in full fledge.
BTW, why are we still hashing the old blame game?! Can't we just blame the CVs and the illogical twist? In reality, this accidental community wedding wouldn't happen and Asad wouldn't have to drag Zoya to SM and force (is Rosh still around? 😆) her to sign the Nikahnamma. 😉

IMO, while Zoya has self respect, she doesn't do much to defend it except with peers. Call it her immaturity, insecurity, loneliness, longing to belong or fear of abandonment. I seriously don't understand what makes her clam up. There have been too many instances where she kept quiet. A lot with Asad and even before Mangalpur. To name a few:

  1. He yelled at her after the college incident, insulted her parentage, she cried and went to the Mazhar (met Rashid).
  2. He yelled at her after the cricket match incident, insulted her parentage, told her she can leave and she did just that. Without informing anyone.
  3. Akram incident
  4. Mangalpur and post incidents (don't need to get into these)
  5. Haseena and company insulted Zoya at the prayer ceremony (sorry don't recall what it was called)
  6. Raziya slapped Zoya at AyRa's engagement.
Yes, now she loves Asad a lot and forgave him easily in the garden scene. As annoyed as she was with him, she knows that deep down he loves her the most. He has shown it too many times. He has done things for her that have been out of character for him. For an orphan, I think that is difficult to overlook. She hasn't lived our lives. She has pined to belong and she knows that finally she belongs to and with Asad. That's why she said to him that I am annoyed with you but also that I cannot live without you. Home is where the heart is. That's why (before the nikahnaama) she kept saying to him "chaliye, apne ghar chalte hain"! I would call their relationship a symbiotic one: they need each other for survival. Period.

This happens in real life to a lot of people too. It's not very easy to walk off unless of course you are in an abusive relation.

If someone insulted Zoya in front of Asad and he tolerated it, then yes, she should walk. As we have seen in the AsYa mehendi scene, he will not let anyone belittle his Zoya.

If he had forced her to accept the Nikaah with Ayaan as real, then she really should have been upset with him. Confused soul Asad wants her to pretend and promised her everything will be OK.

Everyone is grasping at straws. Let's do the same!! 😃

@webuser-it was indeed a very interesting discussion 😃 my only problem was how easily they patched up...
I would probably bash gul nd the CVS but there are strict rules against it so I had to limitysrlf to the characters 😆

IMO Di, Asad has a lot to prove to the girl who has always forgiven him and has always put him before her self-respect.

Am frustrated with Asad. His behaviour in the recent times has not at all been of the bold and fierce man who always used to stand up for protecting his loved ones, especially Zoya. His promises seem to be like empty words to me.

Cribbing in his depressed and distressed state is all that he is doing offlate. For the first time, he is giving hints of being Rashid Ahmed Khan's son, another man who couldn't go beyond his cribing and crying and sccumbed to the demands of circumstances instead of fighting for himself and the love of his life.

Agree with each and every word of yours regarding Zoya's forgiving nature and unconditional love towards Asad. You know what Di, everytime I go by logic the only thing I understand is that Zoya is utterly stupid to have placed Asad before her self-respect and honour time and again. But then the truth is that in real life no matter how much the words and actions of our loved ones hurt us, our love and care for them overpowers our angst and hence we are always able to forgive them and continue to love them irrespective of their flaws and rude behaviour to us.

Zoya's love for Asad is no different, she loves him too much to distance herself away from him, no matter how grave a mistake he commits.

I wished though that atleast this time she would not give in to his assurances so easily but as you have pointed out, forgiving Asad and not holding any grudges against him is a trait that has always been consistent in Zoya's character. How unfortunate it is that the very person she loves this unconditionally has put her in this despicable mess simply on the behest of his brother, who does nothing except for asking his elder brother to fulfill his demands.

I would only be able to respect Asad now, when he'll give a damn about his siblings, society, the scumbags of the likes of Haseena and Tanveer and claim Zoya in front of the everyone as his wife.

That should happen very soon, it really should. We NEED a scene like this!

I am going on a tangential note. Instead of Zoya's self respect, I am now going to take Asad's side. After all the drama and gung ho..the fact is that as yet Zoya has not confided in Asad completely specially about Tanveer's issue and realities.
From Asad's point of view when they are talking incessantly about not able to "live without each other" and etc etc will he not be so hurt and betrayed to know that Zoya could not trust him enough to tell him the truth...

Infact Zoya has confronted Imran with the truth but still not told Asad and we can see Tanveer trying to get back to Asad and he is still oblivious of the truth...

talking of self respect and mutual feelings I feel this aspect has been ignored a lot!!!
