"I'll try this test on Asad as soon as he gets home," Zoya thought happily, clasping her hands together, her eyes shining.
She had just finished watching her favorite show in which the host had revealed that when a person truly loves another, they'll see that person whenever they closes their eyes. And true enough, the instant Zoya had closed her eyes, Asad's face was the only face that surfaced from all the faces in her memory.
Not that she had any doubt about her love for her husband but this test removed any doubt if there had been any. Now she just wanted Asad to try this test to see if he loved her truly or not.
The sound of door bell ringing jarred Zoya out of her trains of thought. One look at the clock and she was flying down the stairs to greet her lovely husband back home.
She opened the door and slammed into him, hugging him furiously causing Asad to chuckle in response.
"Am I correct in guessing that there's no one home today?" He asked mischievously.
"Asad!" she whined hitting him lightly on his chest as she pulled back.
"What? You know I'm right! When there's even one living soul in addition to us, you almost start treating me as a stranger!" he replied back, his eyes shining with humor.
"Oh exaggeration much?" She lifted her eye brows. "Anyways, it just doesn't seem right being all touchy in front of your family. Ok now go and quickly have lunch. I've to talk to you about something." She said shoving him a little.
After lunch, Zoya made Asad sit on his recliner in their room and asked him to close his eyes and tell her what he saw.
Asad smirked already guessing that Zoya expected him to see her. He knew she had been watching that stupid love show these days. But he decided to play along and lying back on the recliner, he closed his eyes.
Zoya's face was instantly painted on his closed eye lids and an involuntary smile adorned his face.
"What did you see?" Zoya asked him impatiently.
"Oh nothing." He replied nonchalantly as he tried to get up but Zoya pushed him back.
"You're not going anywhere until you tell me what you saw!" She ordered, her eyes flashing.
"You asked for it!" he said shrugging his shoulders, "Whenever I close my eyes Zoya, a slide show starts behind my eye lids of all the beauties working at Dilshad Construction these days. And believe me there are so many..." he said with a dreamy smile, trying hard to control his laugher on seeing Zoya's face.
Zoya's eyes were round as saucers while her mouth hung open.
"Zoya, what's wrong? Any problem?" Asad asked her in a serious voice, thoroughly enjoying her reaction.
"No!" She snapped "Besides you're the one who always say that if people have a problem with you, it's their problem not yours. So just leave it." She bit out.
Asad tried his best to not give in to his laughter as he asked in what he hoped to be a confused tone, "I don't get it Zoya! Were you expecting a different answer from me?"
When Zoya looked too furious to answer, he simply shrugged his shoulders saying, "I've always told you that you should expect the unexpected too!" He replied trying his best to keep his face straight and the next moment he was jumping on one foot holding the other, yelping in pain because Zoya had stomped on his foot.
"You didn't expect that, did you Asad? Maybe you should start expecting the unexpected too." She told him in a sugar sweet voice laced with sarcasm before turning and picking up the folded laundry placed on their bed and stuffing them in the closet furiously.
"I'm the one who always dreamt of a perfect husband and I'm the one who got landed with him." she mumbled to herself.
Asad who heard this chuckled lightly and asked, "What's a perfect husband, Zoya? Define him for me, will you?"
Zoya turned her burning eyes towards him and replied in an annoyed, angry voice, "You wouldn't know, would you? A perfect husband does not bother his wife, does not cheat, does not lie, does not think about other girls..."
"And does not exist!" Asad finished the sentence smiling lazily before getting up and hugging Zoya from behind, ignoring as she tried to dig her elbows in his ribs.
"Do you really think I would think about other girls when I've got the most perfect girl in my life?" He murmured huskily in her ear, sending tingling sensation in Zoya's entire body.
"So whom did you see when you closed your eyes?" Zoya asked.
"Priyanka Chopra!" Asad said exasperatedly. "YOU, of course!" he replied placing a kiss on her cheek and was about to continue further when Zoya pushed him and ran away, singing, "Catch me If you Can, Mr. Khan." and Asad groaned. Then grinning wickedly he took after her...
They were the most extraordinary couple you'd come across. They could not live WITH each other and they could not live WITHOUT each other.
When they were with each other, they annoyed the hell out of each other and just the thought of living without each other made their breath stop. They were the most imperfectly perfect couple, made just for each other.
