Wow, I haven't seen the SBS episode yet but my son is severely allergic to peanuts and we carry an Epi-Pen everywhere we go. I know that peanut allergies are more common in the west, and this would have been a great opportunity to raise some awareness in India. We have taken our son to India twice and both times we were very vigilant about what and where he ate, but we ran into a lot of people who didn't take allergy seriously. I think it's great if the CV's are helping to spread the word, just as they did last week about anemia awareness.

@NVBGKY this is what I mean. We need to make people aware of all these so that we can save lives. I am so glad that you were so vigilant in your son's case. It is unfortunate that people are not aware and deaths do happen. Someone I know, their 18 year old daughter was visiting India and died their coz of unawareness there. It is sad and media should take responsibility to make people aware. It is a very important matter.

OMG THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! 👏

IDK if you have a medicine background and to be honest you don't even need one to know this but Epi-Pen is used through clothes...it's purpose it to save the person's life during an anaphylactic shock ...I mean, if a person is having a reaction and you wait till you get him/her undressed for an "injection", he/she will die!!!

I tell you when I saw that I was beating my head! Such ignorance!!

Please don't get me wrong. It's nothing against 'Desis' coz I myself was born and brought up in India, therefore a Desi myself 😆. Moved a few years ago to Canada. I'm a registered nurse working in intensive care unit of one of known hospitals here in Canada. I come across lots of people, who are not Desi actually, unaware of very known diseases such as diabetes, heart attacks or strokes. They will remain unaware or ignorant until someone makes them aware, introduces the subject to them. Malaria or TB are too rare for them to understand when they don't even know much about prevalent diseases. Here we are not discussing literacy but awareness.

I'm just saying that our media can take initiative to bring such problems forward to that every human being is aware of all, be it in India, US or Canada. 😊

I get your point and that is the whole point! Awareness! If SBS did see something happening on the sets, forget google, they could have asked cast and crew what was going on. Clearly, Surbhi and KSG weren't holding a regular injection. Epipen looks and works differently. They even showed how KSG was telling Surbhi to hold the pen and use it.

That my dear friend is sheer ignorance. 😃

They ask and talk about everything to the cast. Kabab ke baare mein baat kar sakte thay lekin injection ke baare mein nahin? Entertainment doesn't mean you can entertain through anything. And yes! People in US/Canada etc know about Malaria and if they don't, they ASK and get informed! It happens in India too. Awareness is the prevention before cure!

When SARS was a threat in India, same SBS covers a DMG segment and asked about precautions from the actors on the set. Just because peanut allergy is not a threat in India don't mean you become ignorant.

Thank You 😃
