"Time heals?" Asad wondered, as he shifted the gear. How long would it take?
Najma eyed him with slight concern. Bhaijaan seemed upset. He had been right outside the door as she came out. He was standing still, lost in some thought. Apparently, he had just finished a call, and was about to start for the car, or so he said. He seemed a little gloomy from then on. He had not questioned her on being late or offered her a ride…she actually had to ask him, and he had agreed absent mindedly. She hoped everything was fine at work. She knew bhaijaan had enough on his mind with the fight with Ayan and his frequent showdowns with Zoya…even then, she wished he'd enjoy this pre-wedding phase.
Time heals? Asad had a living example in front of him who proved the phrase wrong- his Ammi. He had seen her struggle with never being able to move on from that one man.
Time heals. So, that was Zoya's answer to heart break. How different was her outlook from his Ammi's? Was it the difference in the generations? Hardly so? It was a matter of upbringing and culture. The flitting and fleeting way of the Western culture- the nonsensical culture that had carved a person like Zoya.
Would Tannu think like this? He wondered. Tannu, with her rosy outlook on life- who believed everyone had some good in them- sweet and innocent. For the first time after the hasty decision on the wedding, he felt relieved. At least he had made the right decision!
Time heals. Pretty practical, he'd agree. It was what he was hoping for too. Not hoping, knowing…he KNEW …the power was within each person. One decided one's own destiny. So it was in HIS hands, how his heart coped up.
"Bhaijaaan, aap wrong turn le rahe hain"
"Huh?"
"Raasta idhar hain, aap kidhar jaa rahe hain?" Najma looked at him teasingly. She loved it when her perfect brother made mistakes. Any other time, she'd have pulled his leg, but today, he seemed a little lost.
Asad felt a liitle alarmed. He was always in control. What was happening? Was he losing his grip? How was it that Miss Farooqui invaded very second of his existence. And was she infesting him with her absentmindedness too? Asad smiled at the mad thought. Very soon, he'd be accusing her of taking over his mind. What was it called? INCEPTION? He smiled again.
Dilshad walked in to the house to find a very quiet Zoya, sitting cross-legged on the sofa, clutching a cushion. Was she sick?
"Kya hua beta, aap ka tabiyat theek nahi hain?"
Zoya turned and gave a quick, unguarded, soul searching look. She had just been thinking of phoophi and her son…she wondered for a quick second if the mother had some remedy to quick fix the heart her son had broken. What she wanted the most right now was to lie on phoophi's lap and have a heart to heart talk with her. This was the time a girl needed her mother, and phoophi was the closest to a mother she had for a long time. She had a way of understanding her even with no words spoken. But NO! She had to hide her pain from Mr. Khan's Ammi.
Dilshad had noticed the change in Zoya's constitution for some days now. She knew Asad was giving the poor girl a tough time. She usually fought him well, but had withdrawn into a shell this past week. Why?
All mothers know it when their children simply need a hug. So Dilshad asked no questions and hugged Zoya.
It was all Zoya needed to break down. She sobbed …and sobbed…and held on to her tightly.
"Aap pareshaan hai."
Zoya nodded.
"Aapke Abbu ki wajah se?"
Zoya smiled weakly through her tears and nodded again. And closed her eyes so Dilshad wouldn't read the real reason for her agony.
Dilshad continued to hold her tight. She loved this girl like her own, and she knew her prayers for her wouldn't go unanswered. She knew Zoya yearned for a family that she could belong to, and she wished Allah would bless her with her heart's desire.
"Hearts can break. Yes, hearts can break. Sometimes I think it would be better if we died when they did, but we don't."
? Stephen King, Hearts in Atlantis
Comment: Zoya needed to express her pain, to someone, in some way. Now she is ready to bounce back. Asad is still trying to prove to himself that he writes his own destiny, and therefore, he thinks he can choose who resides in his heart.🤔
I am sorry, for not updating earlier. It was a busy week 4 me.
Thanks a lot for all your appreciation.😊 I really want to reply to each and every comment, because it is really sweet of you all to appreciate my writing. Currently, my net is painfully, boringly slow. So, I guess that will take some time.
Again, can't stop admiring the team for the way they fire up my imagination. We had very little AsYa the whole week, but they did manage to hold my interest. And absolutely loved the 100th epi! 👏
He he...Why did I have a sudden liking to blue font?😉
