I am sorry that came out really rude. In no way I'm saying that fictional shows merit the same scrutiny that other things in life do and it might be better to not lose your sleep over a fictional show😊 And I'm the one who's jobless here discussing a show😆

good night and thanks for starting this discussion! I am really heartened to see so many people express their opposition to the romanticization of violence.

Even his "sorry I was angry I didn't mean to do this I just did it in the heat of moment" is going to redeem what he did today. For me Asad has lost the respect atleast for some days. I am wondering he is the Dilshad's son right and he lived with 2 women all his life, shouldn't he respect a girl just a bit more. It's actually not about a man-woman thing, what if Rashid came infront and let's presume Asad thought he blamed Rashid for this, would he go on slapping him ? No he wouldn't, because Dilshad taught him to respect elders can't he respect others like that. Physical abuse is not an answer to everything

Exactly it could hav been done with words but no slap was required. A man cannot subject woman 2 violence in what so ever circumstances. I m actually shocked that along with Gul ppl in this forum r also agreeing 2 it just coz his mother was dieing. I agree he was angry n afraid that he might loose his mother but a slap was too much. He had no right 2 hit her infact no man in the entire world has the right 2 hit a woman according to me.
I completely detest this type of portrayal of love on tv.

Hey RC!

I don't actually watch this show (too many issues with the PH that I haven't gotten over yet) but I did watch a few scenes of Asad and Zoya on youtube out of sheer curiosity. I logged in today to see your post and some others. Made me curious enough to watch that scene. Needless to say I gagged. But the problem I think is exactly what you've said in bold. (Not the you're shallow part, that we all are😊). But the other bit.

The issue is that desi TV has zilch to offer. Zilch. And so we have to watch whatever tripe passes for entertainment. That Indian TV show makers like Gul Khan and company have no soul or creativity is well established. I wish they'd stop saying things like they want to depict strong Muslim women through their shows, though. I have some strong, erudite, educated young Muslim female friends and I am outraged on behalf of them all. Just say outright that you're making a bullshit soap opera with a so-called "dark" hero and a bubbly young heroine, only this time the setting is a Muslim family. The rest is all ctrl c, ctrl v.

So, the question is this: I'm sure he's going to regret hitting her and all that. (like someone said, he'll probably burn his hand on a candle, as if that bit of irrational behavior can make up for his wrongdoings). Is she supposed to fall in love with this guy after this behavior? Really? Way to depict a strong, modern Muslim woman!

Endnote: Allah Miyan and Devi Maiyya were sitting at a bar (in Gujarat, so they were drinking virgin Pina Coladas-don't get your panties in a twist). All of a sudden they heard a loud noise.

"What's that?" asked Allah Miyan.

"What's wrong with you?," said Devi Maiyya smiling at him. "It's Babaji, guffawing at us from television afterlife."

"You're in limbo,
I'm in hell.
He's the only one for whom it ended well!"

Me.

I can't even frame a coherent post right now.

Gul, you said you always wanted to have darker story line.

Wish puri hui?

Ab kush ho?

You couldn't do it on before so you did with QH.

Finally.

What a relief it must be for you. *claps*

This isn't about Asad's anger being justified.

A man under no circumstance has a right to lift his hand on a woman.

You could have used words. The crudest of abuses. Anything.

But physical violence. Not done.

If people accept this, it shows how repressed our society is. And that really pains me.

In any case, it's a daily soap right? I'm obviously taking things too seriously. But right now I'm livid and after all as per logic anything goes when someone is angry right? So me hating is totally justified. *roll's eyes*

Please spare me the Asad is justified because Dilshad is dying defence.

I'm not questioning the anger or Asad, I'm questioning the screenplay.

-RC

👏

Hey RC!!

I was not happy that he slapped her but I was not mad either given the circumstances.

For me men and women are equal. I don't believe women are superior to men and I definitely dont believe men are superior to women.

If Zoya had slapped Asad under the same or less intense circumstance, I am sure majority would have been ok with it.
So why the double standards?

Sometimes mental abuse is worse than a physical one, if you are ok with all his harsh words and judgemental attitude, you should probably consider to let this one pass keeping the circumstances in mind

Oh and This applies to a lot of forum members.
If someone is trying explain their pov, don't go all judgy on them, hear them out, and if you don't agree with them, express it politely.
There is no rule that everybody should think alike.

Maxine ji app? first tight wala hug.

I started watching this show because Zoya 'seemed' to have a bit of a backbone to her. NRI et al. So I thought great perhaps she will be relatable.

Alas Gul likes her characters repressed while hiding behind a veil of showing supposed 'reality'

I think much has been debated on feminism unfortunately to no avail. Hindi soaps continue to be what they are.

The fact that I continued watching ipk to it's bitter end and now watch QH I think is proof enough of my shallowness. But I'm far too bored to do anything else.

Allah Miyyan or Devi Maiyya - someone save us.
