Tehezeeb. What is it?

Maybe this has been discussed numerous times before . Still , wanted to just bring my POV. I am not a regular watcher , but I like AsYa , and I started liking Zoya finally so I have a question. On Asad and the word tehezeeb.

Asad is shown as someone who is conservative and a little orthodox , which is common among muslim families . I find him dynamic as a character , cause at one hand he disapproves of action within girls like Zoya beating up guys when eve teasing is conducted , and wearing what they please , being disorganized and rebellious . And on the other hand , he is liberal enough to be proud of his single mother who has undoubtedly been through a lot and also love his step siblings more than anything in the world . However , he believes all these components within a woman according to his head , not heart , to not have "tehezeeb" , which i mentioned before . But what I want to ask is , what is tehezeeb? And how can one label a component of values and actions in culture to be made of tehezeeb , and anyone who does not conform to this vase of convenient components that scream the "tehezeeb" of women to be females who do not have grace , poise and manners? Is it ungraceful and devoid of any softened culture to the image of a woman in society to stay mum when she is harassed on the roads? Or wears whatever she pleases , as her clothes seem to apparently define her character . What kind of components shape our mind to judge anyone to have tehezeeb or not just cause of the way they conduct their life differently from ours? What makes us label? And what makes us think that our own values and ethics are a basis by which we can judge others cause they are different and label them devoid of tehezeeb? This is a question that arises in my mind in general when I see the show sometimes. So just wanted a healthy discussion about this , that what makes us label people who have tehezeeb and people who don't? Please share your views <3.

i agree :) ..though I guess even though asad is portrayed in some instances to be completely either black or white..in his beliefs, he too like any human being has to have some things that he believes..that still go against his ideologies. if you know what i mean :S

i understand what you mean..he does have beliefs that against his ideologies or he wouldnt love ayaan and nikhat the way he does :) ...but i just feel that ones own values should only be kept for themselves and not a parameter for judging others :) glad you agreed :D

first of all, hi!! i am new in this forum but i watch 'Qubool Hain' when i get time...
and yeah i agree with you... in fact the same question had plagued my mind many times i watched the show... i too sometimes wonder what is 'tehzeeb'? or how can people judge someone? or is there a need to judge people? there could be many reasons why people behave or do things certain way...
sometimes i feel isn't there a constant attempt to define the word in a particular way...
i truly don't know the meaning of 'tehzeeb' because it confuses me... for some i know it is the way a person dresses and conducts themselves... but for me there is no way... when i don't know what it represents how can i define or judge it? how can i judge a person without knowing him/her?
i find the character of asad intriguing... he has many shades to his character even though he believes in 'black and white'... his conservative side makes me wonder how come he have that opinion and his loving and caring side makes me wonder how can he be so contradicting?
my personal favorite character in the show is dilshad... she actually symbolises 'tehzeeb' for me in a way... not by the way she dresses or behaves but by the way she is not ready to judge someone...
i hope i made some sense... :)
