Well, here in the West, we are obsessed with tan skin. 😆

Yeah but tanning is more a personal choice. Bad Choice. Like I mentioned earlier how much flak tanning mom got for getting her kid tanned. Ppl here won't accept parents forcing their kids into anything.

Yea. That is true. Tanning, bleaching, the sun, & even using those dumb "fair" creams that contain so much harsh chemicals are very bad for your skin. You might not see it now, but as you age, everything becomes crystal clear.

This is the bad thing about some South Asian families...I'm Bangladeshi but I was born and brought up in London yet in this Western society the older Bangladeshi's still differentiate between colour and being fair is seen as better. I'm not fair but I'm not really dark either (my skin tone is light brownish)..It used to hurt me when I was younger when people called me dark but now I don't give a damn because if you're affected by everyone's stereotypes and the 'ideal beautiful woman' then it would be difficult to live. Plus I've been told by relatives I've got a better bone structure than some fair girls they've seen which goes to show skin colour doesn't define beauty...To everyone who's ever been discriminated against because of skin colour, height, weight etc just remember your all God's creations and are all individualily beautiful xxx

I'll copy and paste what I wrote on another thread:

Well, the whole "dark skin" "light skin" nonsense started many years ago (according to what I learnt in History) when people who were the lower class worked outside, forming tans (by working in the blazing sun) and those who were richer, didn't need to work and so they were light skinned. The change is skin was to show who was rich and who was poor. However, now the whole idea has changed even western people want to become tan so they go on holidays in the heat to show that they have the money to do that whilst others may just buy fake tan.

In terms of Asian culture, it seems as if they still have that same view but it has altered a bit to where the dark skin is deemed less "pretty" than the light skin one. And it's true, it does happen. I'm sort of dark, but not that dark and some of it has come from being out in the sun. I do get comments here and there but they're mostly from older generations. But even that has died down. I hardly get anything from people who are my age or in the modern generation and if I do it's just as a general comment not exactly aimed at me (which I don't mind) and if someone does say anything extremely bad which is really rare then it's someone who I don't know well or someone who is just a jerk.

The thing is, this whole idea of colour of skin has started to fade away but those who are elder to us still somewhat talk about it. I don't think what the CVs are doing is offensive because it is showing what the effect of "skin" can have on a girl like Nikhat. And yes, I loved what Nikhat's family said that "it's not about the appearance but how a person is." Which I totally agree.

You just have to read between the lines.

RES will edit again 😆

I feel her pain as I am also a Muslim girl who is of darker skin and am short in height. My parents are wanting me to get married, but it is hard to find someone who will like me for who I am and not for my skin color. So I understand Nikhat's feelings. I am in the same boat as her.

I completely agree with you on that. I don't get why dark complexion is considered ugly. I honestly feel dark complexion is pretty---sharp features, for some reason it just looks more real.

Another question, why is it okay for a guy to be dark complexioned? On TV, actresses are shown to have fair skin but not guys. Why people are obsessed with fair skin, what is so special about it? I am proud of my skin color and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. God made me this way and I love it. "Do not change who you are for anyone, if God in all his infinite wisdom made you exactly the way you are He did it for a reason" I COMPLETELY agree with this quote.
