Triptii Dimri’s journey from auditions to headlining big-ticket films has never followed a predictable path. In a recent podcast conversation, Laila Majnu director Sajid Ali shared candid and surprising insights into the actor’s personality, intelligence, and how she eventually landed the role that changed her career. From Rejection to Becoming Laila

Sajid Ali also revisited how Triptii landed the Laila Majnu role. Her first audition happened in Delhi, where she was rejected. Later, she moved to Mumbai, lost some weight, and was asked to audition again. Triptii told him she had already tried for the role and been rejected. Sajid still asked her to perform once more.

That second audition changed everything. The team noticed something instantly, a certain honesty and suitability for the character. Within just seven months of moving to Mumbai, Triptii became a film heroine. Sajid recalled how quickly things fell into place.

From Laila Majnu to a Power-Packed Future

Laila Majnu may not have been an instant box office blockbuster, but it grew into a cult love story and introduced audiences to Triptii’s emotional depth. She reunites with Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for Spirit, this time as a leading lady opposite Prabhas. She will headline Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’ Romeo alongside Shahid Kapoor, releasing on Valentine’s Day 2026, and will also share screen space with Madhuri Dixit in Maa Behen.
