We see this daily in Newspaper that so and so wants a fair, beautiful girl for their son. It is almost a prerequisite to an alliance in India. Its a dirty secret everyone knows parents pass of their wheatish daughter as fair. India is obsessed with fair skin and the market is flooded with fairness creams.

So my point today is yes,we all know that Nikhat is a shade darker than her sisters. She is so self conscious that she considers herself as ugly, which is not the case. She is quiet beautiful. When the obnoxious lady comes to see her and ridicules her like there is no tomorrow,I bet the family is awkward and Ayaan almost showed his anger. My point is if Nikhat is already being ridiculed right in front of her family and no one does anything, can she survive in that family after marriage?

Is it wise for the family to decide that they are better off with Nikhat getting married in that family since she is a bhoj on her parents and after all she is dark. Or Parents should think that if that family is capable of ridiculing them today ,how would their daughter survive there and say no to the alliance.

Also why is it instilled in girl's brain since childhood that being dark equals to ugly.Nikhat has such low self esteem regarding the way she looks. After being insulted,Should she say Yes for the marriage?

by seeing conservative family in show, they don't care damn abt girl's decision abt mrg which is real. even her own family not supportive of her wat she can expect frm outside family.

if girl's family is understanding n supportive family they ve to think about 80 yrs of her life not tat 20yrs chalo get rid of luggage.

The problem you've mentioned is not with just India, this obsession with fairness lays in all subcontinental countries where "Gore rang ka zamana , kabhi hoga na purana."
I have a cousin whose 14ish ,She lives in Pakistan, We sort of bonded over the internet & The girl is smart, very intelligent & quite bold as well but she has this idea of her being "ugly" set in her mind just because she's not fair. The girl was almost insistent that she's ugly even after she's got beautiful features Mashallah & it broke my heart every time she avoided talking about anything related to appearance just general beauty products for that matter.

In Nikhat's case, She's an attractive girl. She's slim, she's got sharp features & she looks way better then Humera to me atleast , No offence to anyone but just because she's a bit tan she's considered ugly whereas one can see that's not the case, that's why I'm loving Qabool Hai, they're tapping on these issues that are faced not only by Muslim families but desi communities as a whole.

This is a very sad part of our society...not only
India but there are people In Pakistan as well who prefer white skin girls for their sons over girls with darker complection..
As for nighat whether she should say yes to the marriage or no, then In my opinion she should say no on that fat lady's face who herself had dark complection( no offence to anyone out here)however as you already mentioned nighat has very low self esteem and she Is just gonna be actually happy if this proposal is accepted by the boy's family...nighat does not really have any choice and only her family members are responsible for this...but I really liked what nighta's maamu said that one cannot spend a peaceful life with a beautiful face what matters is the inner beauty of a person 😊

I think the family is suppose to well-off and pretty rich so it seems strange that they're settling for a family and a guy that are so superficial...I know tradition matters, but they can def find better, well-suited rishtas that are traditional as well...I don't know, but I wish Ayaan was more protective over his sisters like Asad is over his.

That is a problem faced world over. Even in the U.S. and other Western cultures, despite people agreeing that one's skin color doesn't matter, inwards it does matter to many. My sister works at a beauty supply store and she says how many African American women buy a lot of skin whitening products. Even they feel self conscious. And with the desi crowd, people are obsessed with fair skin. My cousin has dark skin and her Mom and grandmother always lament that she has dark skin even though they have similar skin tones to her as well. Her Grandmother always victimizes herself by claiming how she's not considered good looking because she (I'm talking about the grandma) doesn't have fair skin. And then goes , "Look at your grandmother with fair skin. She' so beautiful compared to me." It gets annoying hearing her say this over and over again.

I think Nikhat has grown up in a society where brown = ugly and her parents & relatives have enforced that upon her so she has low self-esteem in herself
she lives in india dear and in a traditional conservative family, if her brother being a boy and a son does not have a voice then how the hell is she supposed to reject this marriage...her brother got into trouble for making eye contact with the mamujaan nikhat rejecting marriage would give the whole family a heart attack 😆
bottom line nikhat has no choice her opinion does not matter she will say qabool hai to the person her parents decide on...she will not speak up against the insult that was being done to her because its against her upbringing...had it been u or me we would have given those people a real peace of our minds😳

The family is doing what they believe is the best for their daughter ...even they are living in the belief that their daughter is brown=ugly so they want her to we well settled and don't to look at the negative things about the family
