My god...if my brother ever told me what I could wear and couldnt we would have a field day. I would rain down abusive words on him with such frequency that I would render him speechless and then he would never say that to me again. But my brother is really really cool. He has never said anything like that to me...in fact my brother defended me wearing shorts to my mom who thought they were a bit too short. My brother was like they are her clothes let her wear whatever she wants. Thats his attitude in pretty much everything...do what you want to do...its your life live it the way you want which I love.
I found Asad's attitude to be very offensive quite frankly. If his mother didnt mind her daughter wearing jeans and going to the lounge then who is Asad to say that she cant. Sorry I am a feminist when it comes to such things. I know whats appropriate for me to do and what isnt...I dont need my brother telling me what I can and cant do.
And Asad's claim that you cant leave your tehzeeb behind...give me a break. A person has to assimilate and change based on the environment they live in. My mother when we lived in India, she wore salwars but after we moved to America she started wearing jeans because evryone else did. She would fell a lot more awkward if she wore salwar here in public because people are conscious. Everyone is self-conscious. So according to Asad my mother should have just stayed indoors for 10 years because she felt uncomfortable going outside in salwar with everyone staring at her. Plus, if you want to work at certain places then you have to leave your "tehzeb" behind. But ofcourse you could just starve because your job requires you to wear modern clothes while your tehzeb requires something else...so just dont work and go hungry. 😆
And come on..jeans. Really what is so bad about jeans. They do not show one inch of your skin. I simply dont understand.
And you are absolutely right...He wants his sister to follow the tehzeb but he doesnt have to. A man who dictates to others how to live according to his principles but doesnt live his life according to those same principles. Scream hypocrite to anyone?
And lastly I resent Asad's for saying dont hang out with the girls that wear modern clothes. 😲 This shows how narrow minded he is. I am a very modern girl...I wear shorts etc etc. But being modern has nothing to do with clothes. It is a mindset. And I have that mindset because I believe in equality for all. Here Asad imlied that women who wear modern clothes are somehow bad...they do things that are bad which couldnt be far away from the truth. Take me for example...I wear modern clothes and very very open minded yet I dont do anything bad...like drinking or smoking or anything else which is why my parents trust me so much and let me wear whatever and hold whatever beliefs.
Damn patriarchal view if you ask me. And a complete turn off. Big time turnoff. I like open minded men; not closed off, I will tell my sister how to live, where to go, what to wear, what to eat kinda men. No matter how hot the guy is as soon as he starts spewing such patriarchal crap...I am done. I would run so fast from him you would see a me sized hole in the door.
Rant over.
