Part 4
This time was different in that they both avoided each other. So much so that even the clever little monkeys picked it up.
"Aarti-mummy, are you angry at papa?"
"No Palak, why do you ask?"
"Because you don't talk to each other like you used to. "Answered Payal.
So this has obviously discussed by these two, Aarti thought a little amused and a little sad.
"I am not angry with your papa, angels. I have just had some very grown up things that I had to think about and that is why I didn't talk much."
"What did you have to think about mummy?" Sometimes the Aarti part fell away when they spoke to her.
"Silly grown up things that clever little monkeys do not have to know about." And she started tickling them. They screamed with laughter.
Yash had been standing just outside the door and heard the conversation. It was amazing how these girls picked up that there were issues between them even though they tried to act normal' in front of them.
He had thought that she might want to leave after that weekend that Aaman visited, but she stayed. She was a much stronger person that he has initially given her credit for. The obvious answer was to let her go and get another nanny, but the girls were so happy with her. He had then thought of the only other acceptable option. He would get married. Arpita made him promise not to love again, she did not ask him not to marry again. So he had contacted his parents to find a suitable match for him. Once he was married and the girls had a mother, she would no longer be needed. That sounded really awful even to him. But he couldn't live with her anymore. He was not sure how long he could still resist her. And he didn't how she would receive him this time, after he had hurt her so. She never met his eyes anymore. She only spoke to him when needed and only about the girls. He had to eventually break the news to her that his parents had found a match for him. She lived in Mumbai, her father was an influential politician and is from the same status as the Scindiyas. He had met her already and they both had accepted the match, so his parents are planning on coming to Mumbai to handle the formalities. This is what he had come to tell her when heard their conversation.
He went into the bedroom, kissed the girls goodnight and said "Miss Sharma, please join me in my study when you are done. I need to talk to you."
He was busy on his laptop when she eventually arrived. She just stood there, waiting for him to talk.
"My parents will be visiting from Monday. They will be here for 2 weeks. They are finalising my engagement"
Her head shot up at the last sentence. He could see the shock and confusion in her eyes. He would miss seeing them when she is no longer here."
"Who is she?'
"What does it matter?"
"Has she met the girls?"
"Not yet."
"And you decided to marry her without meeting them? How could you do that?"
"They will like her, I'm sure."
"You are unbelievable! I will not allow you to bring anyone into this house that will not love and care for those girls as much as I do."
"You will not allow? You will not allow? Who the hell do you think you are?"
"I am the only mother that they know. And I know what it is like not have a mothers love. I will not have my girls go through that."
"They are not yours."
"Not biologically but in every other way I am their mother. I love them like a mother and I will protect them fiercely, even against you."
They stood staring at each other in pure rage, neither of them were prepared to admit defeat in this battle.
"Miss Sharma, when my wife enters this house, your service as a nanny will no longer be required."
"That depends on who you choose as a wife."
"I think you are forgotten your place here, Miss Sharma."
"No sir, I have not forgotten my place. I know exactly who I am and what my place is here. It is you who have forgotten who I am."
With that she turned and left.
Yash had not expected her to re-act like this. He could not believe once again that she had brought a topic that he thought was taboo. And she actually believes that she has input in who he was to marry. How dare she insinuate that he did not have the best interest of the children at heart? He had spoken to Ishita about the girls and she was happy to be part of his family and eager to meet the girls. How dare she suggest that he would take such a decision lightly? Now he couldn't wait to get her out of his life.
His mother had never approved of him having such a young nanny and had her suspicions of Aarti's intentions. When she met Aarti she was very cold and aloof. She grilled her about her life, where her family was and she made it clear that she did not think it was acceptable for her to live unchaperoned with a man.
Aarti understood the concerns. She answered all the questions but she did not go out of her way to change their concepts of her. For her it was business as usual, it was all about the children. The children loved their grandparents and it was important that they like the person that took care of them but that was where it ended for her.
Yash's fianc and her family had been invited for dinner. Aarti helped G3 prepare the meals and set the table but excused herself from dinner as she was not family. She had intended to meet his intended bride but she could not handle it today.
Dinner was pleasant and after dinner it would be disclosed to the children that Ishita would be their new mother. She had brought them gifts and was very nice to them at dinner, trying make conversation with them and it went really well. But when Yash explained to them that she would their new mamma, all hell broke loose. Payal was especially close to Aarti since she stayed with her when Palak was in hospital. She started screaming and crying.
"No I don't want another mamma. I only want my Aarti-mummy."
Then Palak started too.
"Yes we only want Aarti-mummy." The both proceeded to run upstairs to Aarti's room. Aarti had heard her babies' distress was already on her way to them and met them at the landing of the staircase. They ran into her arms and cried.
"What is the matter with my monkeys?"
"We only want you Aarti-mummy we don't want Ishita-aunty", Payal said.
"But my sweethearts, you don't even know Ishita aunty. How do you know you are not going to love her even more then me?"
"Never mummy. We love you the most"
"But you didn't always love me. Remember when you just came to my class and I was your teacher? Did you love me so much then?
They shook their heads.
"It was only much later that you loved me, right? So you will love Ishita aunty too?"
"Will you go away?" asked Palak.
"You will see, you will love your new mummy so much that you won't need me anymore."
"Will you stop loving us?"
"Never ever ever, Pinky swear" and they did the pinky swear.
"Now go sit and talk nicely to Ishita aunty. Pappa will call me when you are ready for bed."
Yash was astounded. This was the woman that had it out with him just the other day about his choice of woman and whether she would be right for the girls and now she was the one talking them into liking Ishita. She is really a complex individual. How was he going to cope without her, who would calm the girls down when they needed it? She really only had their interest at heart. He had an overwhelming urge to go to her and just hold her in his arms.
The look that he gave Aarti did not go unnoticed by his intended bride. She immediately recognised the threat. She had decided there and then that she would not wait long for this marriage to take place. She wanted that woman out of Yash's life. And she would definitely not put up with these 2 little drama queens' behaviour. But before marriage she would play their game.
He brought them up to their room when they were ready for bed. She was already waiting there. She had their pyjamas ready and proceeded to get them ready for bed.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"For what you did earlier."
"I don't need your thanks. I did it for my girls. And you are wrong if you think she is the right one for them."Aarti had been observing from the balcony, unnoticed. She could see that Ishita had no real interest in the girls. Her only interest was Yash. She thought for a while that it might only be her jealousy that casued her to think that, but she could not shake the feeling that this woman would not be good to her girls.
"Miss Sharma..." he began agitatedly.
"Good night sir, I need to get them to sleep."
Once again dismissed, Yash walked downstairs anger. She is will be the end of him. He wanted to put her over his knee and spank her for her insolence, but that probably not be a good idea. He had to get himself under control quickly as his body responded instantly to that very inappropriate thought. His fianc was sitting here and he was envisioning doing very wicked things with the nanny upstairs. It sounded like the plot of an R-rated movie he thought, he nearly laughed at that ridiculous thought.
