Chapter 25

The preparations begun for Palak's birthday party Vidhi, Prateek and even Paridhi helped, because she was so bored and fed up at home it had been a week since they had returned from their honeymoon and Prateek still could not find the courage to tell his bauji that Paridhi wanted to work.

This party was a very sore point for Gayatri because she wanted Yash to have the yearly death anniversary prayers for Aripta as far as she was concerned Aarti was just the children's nanny so she together with Arapita's parents planned for the pooja to be held on the day after the birthday party. SP wanted the party because since Aripta's death except for the double weddings there was no birthday or anniversary celebration in their house because G3 wanted to mourn and allow Yash to mourn his wife's death, she wanted them to keep Aripta alive in the heart of Yash and the girls. G3 tried to influence the girls that it is wrong to celebrate with their mother.

Aarti was in her kitchen papering to serve dinner, Yash was helping and they were discussing about the preparations for the party Palak came she was angry and shouted at Aarti that she is not her mother but just a servant who wants to take the place of her mother, she hates her and she no longer wants a party because her mother Aripta mama who honestly, really, truly loves her will not be there because Aarti won't allow her to attend because she stole their papa from their mother, and now she wants to steal them too from their Aripta mama, by pretending to love them.

Aarya was shocked by this behaviour and wondered what caused this sudden outburst; then Payal and Ansh came running in they innocently informed their confused parents that daadi ji told them mean things about mamma and Ansh.

Yash was furious he went across to the main house with Aarti closely following she was pleading with him to control his temper, remember that G3 mummyji is his mother is old. And set in her way and to change is very difficult for her.

Yash stormed into the dining room where all the remaining family were present "Namaste bauji please control your wife she told our children that their mother is the maid and she is the reason why their Aripta mama won't come to visit them because Aarti is keeping her away. Your wife is trying to get our children to hate their mother and I won't stand for it. We will have the birthday party but not here and tomorrow I am taking my family and leaving this house. If anyone wants to be a part of my family's life they are welcome to visit us and attend the party if not please I respectfully beg you to keep away from us." Yash took his wife's hand and walked out back to their apartment.

G3 shouted "ji look our son is following that woman and taking my grand daughters away from me, he is leaving his mother for a stranger ji do something stop him!!"

"G3 shut up I have had enough! I told you countless times control your tongue and your temper but you never listen! What has Aarti bahu done to you! Well tell me!! Has she stolen from you!! Has she publically embarrassed this family!!She is not Aripta bahu they are two different persons as chalk and cheese. In the past month she has proven that she is a good mother and wife. Aarti bahu worked with Yash and brought in more lucrative business for us just by working in one event that was successful, her business sense, ability to deal with difficult clients, taste and style impressed many and I have received an offer from the chief minister to handle his daughter's wedding, and two important Mumbai contracts just because the family, and their friends posted on the social media what a grand first class event that was and praised the husband and wife team of the Scindhia's event management company. Tell me has Aripta bahu brought in any kind of fame or prestige like this in the three and half years that she was Yash's wife??"

"Ji you never allowed her to work, so how do we know if she could off bring fame to the family."

"Aripta did not have any business sense like you she did English literature and like you she only wanted to dress up with the most expensive things, sit at home, and demand from everyone. What you think I am not aware of how both of you controlled Yash, influenced Vidhi bahu into doing all the house work claiming that as the eldest bahu and it is her right to do these things. Just because I was silent and did not interfere in your women's business did not mean I was not aware of the facts or how she showed off during the family functions, and whenever she accompanied Yash in business events, people talk G3 they commented and it was never good things, no one had anything good to say about her or you for that matter; that you treated Vidhi bahu as a second class person compared to Aripta, insulting one while praising the other. " SP was so angry that he walked off shouting for Ramdularie to bring his dinner to his study.

G3 was in tears SP had never spoken to her like this before yes he has scolded her even insulted her on occasions but never in the presence of their children. G3 new he travelled a lot for their business ever since their marriage and most of the time she stayed back home first she believed it was because it was her duty to stay and look after his parents, grandparents and younger sister Maya, then it was because Pankaj and the boys were born and growing up; she knew her responsibilities were to her family, and she arranged the family functions so what if she showed off it was her right they are wealthy and the women loved to exaggerated about their husbands, house wealth, money, jewellery, and their children, all she did was hold on to her own importance. Aripta was a beautiful dainty woman, she had culture, and class those who talked about her were just jealous of her educated, fair, beautiful bahu and Vidhi bahu she always forgets my simplest orders and makes so much mistakes. G3 composed herself and left for her room.

Vidhi told Paridhi to serve the dinner she will carry a plate for their sasuma. Pankaj, and Prateek were confused and surprise they had seen their bauji angry many times before but he never humiliated their ma like that in their presence before.

Pankaj said "Ma had no right to tell the kids such bad things about Aarti, they are kids and easily influenced as an adult she should know better. I too had turn a blind eye to her behaviour to you Vidhi for that I apologise to you. If Yash leaves this house with his family I will support him. Aarti is a nice girl from what I saw she handled herself with pride and dignity. I also her from our employees how well she handled the difficult situation and the manner in which she speaks to the employees is very respectful, and understanding. I have always thought that Aripta was not a good match for Yash but I had to bow down to ma and bauji wishes and don't go against them because they are our parents. They are the ones to make the right decision for us based on their life's experience and choose our life partners but being the older brother I should have been brave and spoke out in my brother's defence that I never liked Aripta or her parents"

Prateek said "I agree with you bhayia ma should not speak about Aarti in that way to the children. When Yash bhayia got married I was in boarding school and then away in collage so the only time I met Aripta Bhabhi was when I was on holidays and she was friendly with me and Yash bhayia seemed happy so I never paid much attention to her. I knew ma was close to her but I put it down to that they had a lot in common with each other. I knew ma scolded Vidhi Bhabhi a lot but I always that is how parents behave I did not know it was wrong, because both you and bauji never told ma to stop so I accepted as it."

Paradhi said "So this means Prateek that you will never tell bauji that I want to work? Well let me inform you all as of tomorrow I am returning to my job at the radio station being a house wife is not for me especially when there are so many servants to do the work. My parents allowed me my freedom to express myself and I never disrespected them now that I am married I will never disrespect Prateek or his family but if I am forced to stay home there is no telling what I may do. I too have my dreams and ambitions and it do not include being dressed up and staying home doing housework. If Aarti bhabhi can work and bauji have no problems with it so can I."

"Paridhi don't be disrespectful to bhayia, and Bhabhi like that"

"How am I being disrespectful Prateek? I am just saying if Aarti Bhabhi is allowed to work so should I my job is a RJ I talk and listen to my audience I don't deliberately go mingling with men."

Pankaj said "Paradhi bauji don't want his bahus working because in our family we believe that the men are the providers for the family, and the women work at home doing housework, and take care of the children. The men make all the decision for the family, the wives follow and support her husband decision. When women work outside of the house she forgets her place and become too independent causing problems in the family, we are a joint family and we respect our elders."

"Well if that is the case why did Aarti Bhabhi work? Why did bauji not stop her?"

"Because Yash and Aarti lives separate from us, and she worked with Yash not for someone else. If they were still living with us Aarti would off worked with Yash and I from here running the business Paridhi don't forget that Aarti is a successful lawyer and an accountant. Bauji did his checks on her and he recognized her natural talent and as a successful business man it would be a waste to have her here as just the bahu when she can contribute to the growth of the business. "Okay bhayia allow me to go to work just for one week listen to my programme and make your evaluation"

G3 had come outside to get a jug of water and she heard the discussion she taught first that Aarti now this Paridhi. I will have to do something to rid my sons of this negative influences.

On their way back to the apartment Aarti tried to talk to Yash but he was just too angry he held her hand tightly and walked briskly repeating "I can't believe that she is my mother she is so heartless how dare she speak of you like that with our children, the further we are away from her the better, I thought Maya buaji was a uncaring person but ma is worst, and we are leaving here tomorrow Aarti and that is final "

When the entered the apartment they heard Palak arguing with Payal and Ansh "You are not our brother but the son of the maid and you want to steal our papa, and our money from us Payal move away from him I hate you!!" and she forcefully pushed Ansh Payal "Didi leave bhayia alone and don't say mean things about mama!"

"She is not our mama Aripta mama is our mother papa only love Aripta mama this lady is a fake mother dadaji said so and she is bad she will beat us and send us away keeping her son for papa! I hate her and you should too, she is bad!"

"Children what is happening here!!" Shouted Yash startling them Ansh and Payal ran to Yash Palak came and pushed Ansh away "Leave from here boy you are not wanted here! He is our papa!"

Yash was so angry he held Palak's elbow and was about to hit her when Aarti intervened "No Yash she is our baby!" and grabbed Palak placing her behind her back "Yash you are angry with mummyji not Palak she is an innocent child! She is just doing and saying what mummyji taught her! It is not her fault we have to make her understand that mummyji is wrong! Don't punish my baby" tears were flowing from Aarti's eyes Ansh and Payal too started to cry they had never seen their papa so furious before, both ran and held on to Aarti.

Yash said "I need some air!" and he went to the balcony

Aarti tried comforting her children but Palak kept shouting how much she hates her and go away with her son that they don't want her in their house and she started to hit Aarti with her little fists. Payal went up to her didi and punched her hard on the tummy shouting "I hate you! You hurt mama, and bhayia just like dadiji locked bhayia for hours in that dark room and made us promise that we won't tell papa and mama. Tayi ji also had to promise she won't tell anyone!" she was crying nonstop

Aarti was shocked Yash heard everything in his anger he rushed back to the main house "Bauji! Bauji! Vidhi Bhabhi I need to speak to you now" Vidhi came from the kitchen followed by Paridhi SP came from the study the brothers were seated at the dining table. "Bhabhi tell me the truth when did ma lock my son in the store room and why did she do that??"

"Yash what are you saying ma won't do that" said Pankaj

""Bhabhi answer me I want the truth! Paraidh were you there??"

Paridhi was so scared she started to cry confirming his suspicions

"Bhabhi!!'

"Vidhi is that the truth!" shouted Pankaj

"Yes bhayia it was last week Saturday when you all had the pre wedding rituals all day and then the party in the night " she answered crying

"Bhabhi what did Ansh do to get such a punishment?" asked Yash

"Nothing bhayia he was playing with the girls inside by the pool and mummyji wanted to teach the girls about the Gita she give the girls parsud but when Ansh asked for some she scold him and chased him off so he called her fat dadiji and said she want all for herself and she grabbed him by his ears and drag him into the store room locked it and told us to leave him there Ansh cried begging to let him go but she kept him there all day without any food or drink. It was almost time for bauji to return then she allowed him out threatening us to kill her if we told you all she even told the girls that if they tell anyone Aarti will beat them and send them away because she doesn't love them all she wants is their papa and his money for her fatherless son."

"Vidhi what nonsense is this why did you not tell me"Pankaj shouted

"Paridhi you could of told me" shouted Prateek

"Prateek Vidhi Bhabhi told me don't say anything as the bahus we have to keep the peace and the family together"

"Vidhi where is your brains If Ansh had gotten hurt or died you would of covered that up too??" asked Pankaj "I am so disappointed in you may be you deserved the treatment you received from ma all these years covering up the abuse of an innocent child the son of this house!"

"Son of this house since when is that b***** a son of this house!!" shouted G3 "I am wrong to protect my granddaughters from him and to discipline him a budding criminal. Mark my words one day he will end up in jail and embarrass our family name you all don't know what dirty blood runs in his veins that woman is an orphan her parents could have been criminals, or dirty poor beggars. I will not have my grand daughters associated with him!" shouted G3

SP shouted "G3 I have had enough of you behaviour just shut up and get the hell out of my sight!!"

"Yash beta I am sorry I had no idea that her hate ran so deep hurting a child is unforgiveable Beta as much as it pains me to say this I support your decision to leave this house with your family I see now it is for the best" He turned to the other two couples "If you too want to leave I will not stop you, go live your life how you want there will be no interference from me." SP turned and left the room.
