Chapter 7
Aarti awoke the following morning to the vigorous shakes, and shouting of her name by an overly excited Mansi "Aarti didi wake up wake up!!! wake up nah!! we have to go shopping today!""whah What are you saying Mansi di, shopping why??" Replied a sleepy Aarti still under the covers " Shopping for clothes, shoes, clips, ribbons and dolls. Come on wake up we have to get ready" continued Mansi this time attempting to pull the covers off but Aarti held on to them tightly " But it is early and I don't need new things, I have plenty clothes and things." said Aarti rubbing the sleep off her eyes. Last night after they were sent to bed the three children spoke and played until their parents had to come in and send Aman to his room and the girls to sleep, the children were so happy to be together they wanted to learn as much about each other as possible." No never say that clothes become old and colours fade away then their are new fashions, I like to dress up and mom and chachi loves to dress up they said girls must always look their best that it is our right to look beautiful" replied Mansi. Listening to Mansi Aarti was confused " But i like to play specially outside, help with the gardening, play sports, and help with the chores I get dirty when I do these things I don't mine, and yeah draw, and paint, I am a little girl I don't want to look beautiful all the time." complained Aarti pouting her lips. Mansi burst out into peels of laughter "Didi are you sure you are a girl?? mama and chachi says dressing and painting our nail, combing our hair in nice style with clips, and ribbons is what every girl want to do; and then there are the matching jewelry, and bags" continued Mansi already dreaming about shopping.
"Girls! are you up, girls where are my babies it is time to wake up we have a busy day planned chachi and I are taking you both shopping then lunch then more shopping" Mrs Sharma announced as she came through the bedroom door " we will have a wonderful time only us girls" she continued coming closer to the bed reaching for Mansi and giving her a morning kiss then reached for Aarti and kissed her too on her check . Aarti was surprise because never in her short life did any greet her good morning like this. Although she was not sure about this shopping plan she was willing to give it a try because mama was happy and wanted her along with them.
Chachi came into the room " what are mama and baties planning may I join " she asked smiling " good morning my girls how did you sleep?" she came and sat on the bed next to Aarti and kissed her on her check then Mansi. Aarti was happy her self thought Kisses in the morning things are different here i wonder if every morning will be like this, don't they scold kids here. " Good morning chachi" chorus both girls. " Now girls time to get up and bathe, change into our day clothes, then we shall pray in our pray room then have breakfast, and finally leave for shopping ok" said chachi " Scoot out of bed into the washroom" joined in mama Sharma.
In the dinning room the kids took the blessing from the men: at the breakfast table the conversation centered around the day's event shopping by the ladies Aarti could not understand what was the big deal on the few occasions she went with one of her three mas they went to the market bought what the needed she got jellibie and they returned home. Aarti has never been to the mall in her young life and she was excited and slightly nervous, she was going to stay close to her family, she heard form her schoolmates that the mall is huge and it is easy to get lost there, there are lots of stores and people.
In the car Mansi was chatting non stop about what she wanted for herself and her Aarti didi " new dresses with matching ribbons, mama can didi and I have pants suit, didi likes to play outside, sports and gardening. Pants will be good nah eh mama??? " You like to garden Aarti beta so do I" said Mrs. Sharma " Yes mama I like flowers and helped in the kitchen garden at the orphanage" replied Aarti "What sport do you like beta?" asked chachi " In school they teach us hockey, and cricket." answer Aarti "but I prefer hockey" she said with a smile. "Well you have something in common with your chachu, papa, and Aman they all love sports specially hockey. I love to swim and tennis if you want I can teach you beta" Aarti always wanted to learn how to swim so she agreed tennis she heard about that from the kids at school. Suraj self thought those almonds are not working; note to self take G3 to a doctor for a check up when we reach back to Bhopal " I am sure you forgot to by gifts for the, relatives, close friends, and servants you are know how they look forward to these small tokens of appreciations from us." Maya liked to shop although she wore dull colours she liked the saries sold in a particular boutique which catered to all her needs so she agreed to join the group. "Yes maji I will accompany you all.
"
During the Drive to the mall
The boys decided for whom and what should they buy Yash had a best friend Prashant, Prateek had his best friend a girl his age Paradhi she was lots of fun, and Pankaj had a couple of friends in collage. Maya asked G3 " Bhabhi do you have a list with you You don't want to miss out anyone because you know bhayia will get angry??" " Maya I have the list and I am here to help my bahu." said dadi " you concentrate on buying your things I know You want some saries, matching jewelry, shoes etc just remember that you are a widow and have to dress tone down" smiled her mother, "MBKK what are you saying maji those things are not important to me. I need some religious books from the book store." guff Maya.
At the mall
A excited Sharma family entered with Aarti holding her Chachi's hand and Mansi holding mama's hand " OK girls where to first?" asked mama " Every where" chimed Mansi "You can't go every where at the same time beta " answered mama smiling at her super excited daughter. "OK lets start with clothes, ribbons, then shoes, bags ok beta" continued mama " then books and toys" said Mansi "Yes then lunch in the food court or restaurant?" asked chachi "Restaurant please the food court will have to many people" said Mansi "Aarti beta are you ok you are so quiet i know this is your first time in the mall don't be scared hold on to chachi's hand" mama said smiling reassuringly to the child.
The Scindhia family arrived it was decided that Pankaj would take his younger brothers shopping then they will meet the adults in the restaurant. Yash loved to shop with his older brother, and Prateek although he is only five he had better taste than their ma in choosing clothes for them self and gifts for their friends.
Lunch time arrived and both families entered the same restaurant for lunch and were seated close to each other. "MBKK are those ladies the Sharma wived, bhayia has business interest with them" said Maya " O look they have that orphan with them I wonder why maybe the are doing charity work make a poor child feel special for the day" continued Maya " O god if you don't have anything nice to say then don't talk."admonish her mother. Yash had all ready noticed Aarti when they entered and the waiter had seated them, he had a good vantage point to look at her without being noticed or so he thought'
Aarti felt that she was being looked at and when she looked up she saw that boy the tall, skinny Scindhia boy looking at her as their eyes met Yash looked immediately away. Aarti self thought why is he always looking at me one day if we ever meet face to face I am going to ask him and he better have a good answer otherwise I am going to hit him. Yash stole another glance at Aarti and she give him a questioning look so he tried to give her a small smile and she give him a return glance opening her eyes large. Poor Yash quickly looked away his self thought Yash Beta what are you doing stop it, but he could not help himself took another look and saw Aarti biting her lower lip her facial expression said something was not right with her.
Aarti was listening to the conversation of the adults they spoke of returning to Bhopal tomorrow evening on the train Aarti had never been on a train, mama said in a week time she will begin school with Mansi and make new friends, chachi said they will have more shopping in the mall in Bhopal and she will start to teach her how to swim in the pool at home. Aarti was starting to get nervous again but she is a brave girl and Shoba ma said that there are new experiences awaiting her in her life so when you become afraid pray to god and ask his guidance.
Both families left the restaurant with their shopping for their respective homes to continue their packing for their journey to their respective home in Bhopal the following day.
