Tomorrow's Conference...All Set And Ready!!!
Ensuring herself that she did all that she had planned for the day as she went through the mental list she had prepared, Aarti switched off the lights as she got up to leave her office. Obviously she was the last one as usual. But then, that was all she had...her work.
It's past 6 already, Mom will definitely *kill* me today, Aarti told herself as she hurriedly got into her car.
*****************
Like every other day, as she was driving by the park which was found on her way home, Aarti couldn't help but spare a glance at the people in there.
Kids playing and fighting.
Grandparents accompanying their grandchildren on evening walks.
Teenagers secretly meeting.
Newly-weds romancing in a corner.
She could see them all as she drove at a super slow pace.
But what caught her attention the most was what she saw next.
A man supporting and walking beside his pregnant wife, hand in hand.
At that moment, Aarti could do no more than to think about her own life. It pricked her heart to see that couple like that. The seemed to be so much in love and their happiness could be easily reflected on their face.
If only her life could have been the same, she told herself.
If only he would have been with her too.
If only that day never happened in their lives.
If only she could erase that day and change the past, she thought sadly as silent tears made their way from her eyes.
Not able to drive further, Aarti stopped the car to go inside the park, the same park which had so many memories of her, of him, of them. She knew her mom would be worried about her but at that moment nothing made sense to her. Sending a quick message about extra work to her mom, Aarti made her way inside the park as she grabbed her shawl in her hand in case it would be cold later on.
*****************
As she walked silently in the park, Aarti couldn't help but think of all those times they had spent together.
Like any other girl, she had also dreamt of her *soul mate* who would come and sweep her of her feet. She also used to wait for her *special person* who would turn her world upside down with the love he would have for her.
But never had she thought that her world would literally be turned upside down with the arrival of her special person.

Jo Dhoop Nikli Chaya Ban Jaaunga
If The Sun Comes Out , I'll Become Your Shade
Jo Ho Tu Akeli Saaya Ban Jaaunga
If You Are Alone, I'll Become Your Shadow
Jo Uljhan Mein Ho Mann Main Behlaaunga
If You Are Disturbed, I'll Ease Your Mind
She could still remember his words to her. He had vowed to be her shadow, to be the solution to any problem of hers, yet here she was today, all alone to face her troubles without him by her side.
He lied to her.
He broke his promise to her.
Why did you leave me midway Yash? Why? Aarti finally screamed out.
You had promised to be with me all the time, then why???? she said loudly with no one to hear her, since almost everyone had started to leave the park.
It was already past 8 and it started getting dark. Still, it was of no effect to Aarti. Her life was already filled with darkness anyways.

FLASHBACK
"Stop Aarti. Aartiii!!! Stop," Yash screamed out loud as he kept running after Aarti in the park.
It was one evening like any other one. After work, they would daily come to the park to spend time together. Despite working together at the same place, Aarti and Yash would rarely get to spend time with each other due to their workload. And being true professionals, their work would be their priority in the office. That is why, they would daily go to the park in the evenings to spend some quality time with each other.
Sticking her tongue towards him as she gave her a quick glance, Aarti continued running.
"I wonder what your mother fed you with as a child. Kitna bhaagti ho tum. Ok I give up. At least now stop running. If you won't, then I'm leaving you here alone and going away, then don't come crying that I left you," Yash finally used his last trump card as he realised that Aarti was no way near stopping. Once she makes up her mind to prove her point, there is no way stopping her, and he knew that.
The moments those words left his mouth, Aarti froze at her place. Seizing this moment, Yash quickly ran to catch up with her and hugged her from the back. When he felt that she was stiff in his arms, he turned her around only to find a teary Aarti.
Caught by surprise, he asked her what was wrong when few minutes back, she was *playing* and having fun with him.
Aarti hugged him time as she said in a broken voice.
"Yash, don't leave me please. I promise I will do anything you will say, but please never leave me alone. Please."
And Yash knew what was wrong. Unknowingly he made her cry with those words of his. Yash was clearly aware of Aarti's insecurities. She could never bear to have her loved ones going away from her especially with the childhood she had lived with.
When she was 10 years old, her father had left her mother for another woman and did not even care about his daughter, who kept craving for him. Since that, Aarti would live with this insecurity. Yash still remembers what all he had to do to convince her that he really loved her when he had confessed to her.
Of course, he could understand why she took time to reciprocate his feelings. She didn't want to go through what her mother had gone and didn't want to be left by someone again.
When he felt that her sobs had subsided, Yash broke the hug and made her look at him as he took her face between his palms.
"Aarti, I'm not like others. You trust your Yash na? I promise I will never leave you. I will always be with you, forever," he told her as he placed a kiss on her forehead.
"You're telling the truth na?" she asked with uncertainty.
"Haan Aarti. I will always be with you, promise. Be it in happy or sad moments. Whenever you need me, I will be there with you, for you. I will be your shield all the time. I promise you this, with all the love I have for you," he finished off.
Overwhelmed and feeling secured by his words, Aarti hugged him that very moment.
He promised her to be with her.
He promised to be her saviour.
He promised her.
And she trusted him.
Ho Gham Ke Badal Mujhpe Tham Jaane De
Let The Gloomy Clouds Loom Over Me
Bechainiyo Ko Mujhse Takrane De
Let The Restlessness Attack Me
Dukhti Ho Koi Baat Mujhpe Aane De
Let Any Hurtful Talks Come To Me
*****************
You promised to be with me in every phase of my life.
You said you would be with me in the toughest and worst moments of my life. Then where are you today when I need you the most - when we need you the most, Aarti yelled as she place her hand on her stomach, her bump very much visible.
Yes, she was 7 and a half month pregnant with his *Ansh*, his part and she needed him, they needed him. But he was not with them. How could he when he passed away 5 months back.

FLASHBACK
Aartiii, Yash yelled as he saw a truck coming in her direction.
Panic-stricken, Aarti was not able to move when she was pushed on the other side by none other than him.
Yashhh!!!!! Aarti managed to let out as she saw him lying in a pool of blood on the road.
*****************
"Nothing will happen to you Yash, just be quiet and rest," Aarti told Yash after his immediate operation.
Yash was struggling to talk which pained him and Aarti didn't want that.
With much difficulty he managed to say in a broken tone.
"Please Aarti, let me talk."
Even after receiving a glare of her, Yash didn't keep quiet.
"Aarti, take care of yourself and of our child when I will no longer be here," he said while having a hand on her almost flat tummy.
"Yash, why are you talking like that. Nothing will happen to you. You had promised me you will never leave me. Remember. So, please don't talk like this."
"I will always be with you Aarti, maybe not physically, but I will be with you all the time, in your thoughts, in your dreams, in your memories. But promise me, you will move on and will live, for me, for you, for our child, please," he nearly pleaded.
Releasing her hand from his, Aarti stood up angrily.
"No, why should I promise, huh, tell me why when you yourself, you're breaking yours. I will never forgive you for this Yash. Why did you do this, why??? I was supposed to be in your place. Why did you push me Yash??? Why??? Main tumhe iss ke liye kabhi maaf nahi karoongi, kabhi nahi?"
With that she turned her back to him pouring her frustration through her tears.
"Aar--aarr-aaahhh"
"Yashhh!!! What happened? Wait I'm calling the doctor. Am just coming wait."
But she never went. She stopped in her tracks as she heard him calling her once again.
"Aarti, mu--mujhe, chod ke mat jao. Be with me, please."
The very moment he said that, Aarti found herself next to him on the bed taking him in his arms.
"Am not going Yash, I'm here itself. I will just call the doctor, he will check upon you and all will be fine," she said in a reassuring tone.
"No Aarti, be-b-be h-e--here only, don--don't leave me," he said as he clutched her blood-stained top, cuddling himself into her.
Hugging him back, Aarti kept cursing her fate.
Why her only? First her dad and now Yash. Please God, make him fine.
Her prayers and pleads were left midway as she suddenly felt his stiff body on hers.
Yashhh!!!!!!!

Dil Sochta Tha Ke Koi Apna Ho
My Heart Always Thought Of Someone To Be Mine
Koi Raaz Na Ho Jo Uss Se Rakhna Ho
Someone Who I Won't Keep Secrets From
Aankhein Na Kholu Main Shayad Sapna Ho
I Won't Open My Eyes; Perhaps It's A Dream
How she wished it was all a dream.
If only she had not insisted on ice cream that day, she always kept telling herself all the time.
Today, she would have been here with him. They had woven so many dreams together concerning their baby since the very day they became aware of her pregnancy.
Yet today, she was alone when their dreams were on the way of becoming real. She would never have the complete family she always craved for.
How many times, she felt like giving up. She never imagined her life without him since the time they got together. Still, she managed to *survive* for 5 months without him.
If only she was not carrying their baby. If only she hadn't promised him inwardly when he had asked for it on his death-bed, she kept telling herself each time she felt the need to give up.
But she had to live, for their baby - for him. He wanted her to and she knew that would be the only way to keep him *alive* - through her, through their baby, through their happiness.
*****************
"Aarti, where are you? I have been calling you since so long. Why were you not picking up my calls? Tu theek to hai na" Aarti heard her mom telling her when she finally decided to pick up her phone which was ringing continuously for the last one hour.
"Y-y-yes mom," she managed to say in a choked voice.
"Aarti. What happened? Whay are you sounding like this?" asked her mom in a concerned voice and as if realisation dawned onto her, she quickly added,
"You're there only, na? You again went to the park. How many times I forbade you from going there, when why do you keep going there Aarti. Why do you keep facing the things which hurt you? Stay there itself, I'm coming in 10 minutes, ok?"
Drinking the tears which made their way out as her mom talked to her, Aarti finally replied.
"No mom, I'm ok, sach mein. And don't worry. I'm coming in a while."
"Are you sure, beta?"
"Yes mom, please don't be tensed. I'm just coming. See you in a while mom. Bye."
"Bye," her mom replied as she hung the phone sadly. She was aware of her daughter's pain though she never voiced it to her. But she was her mother, and one cannot hide anything from a mother.
As much as she was affected by Yash's death also, Aarti's mom recomposed herself. Yash was the son she never had. And it pained her equally not to have him anymore in their lives. But she had to be strong, if not for her, then at least for her daughter.
"Keep my daughter safe all the time God," she silently prayed as she waited for Aarti's return.
*****************
Wrapping the shawl around her, Aarti made her way out of the park, but not without giving it another glance.
As she drove off, she again *promised* herself not to come there again.
But promises were meant to be broken and Aarti knew she would find herself there again the following day. The park was filled with too much of the memories of their togetherness, she could still feel his presence there, something she would never be ready to let go of.
That was how the daily evenings of Aarti went by. Aarti, the widow of Yash Scindia!!!
