Pajawan -

Pajawan or Pajjun was ruler of Dhundhar with his capital at Amber, India. He was fifth Kachwaha ruler of this area. He was married to Prithviraj Chauhan's cousin. He was prominent and trusted general of Prithviraj Chauhan. Col. James Todd found a stone inscription of Prithviraj II at Hansi dated 1168 (travels in western India). In this inscription Kilhan, Hammir, and Pajjun are mentioned as commanding officers of Hansi fort. According to Kachwaha vanshawali Pajawan ruled Amber from 1161 to 1185 which is supported by stone inscription of Hansi and Prithviraj Raso.

According to Prithviraj Raso and literature about Kachwahas it is found that army of Muhammad of Ghor was defeated by Prithviraj Chauhan many times before two main battles of Tarain. Two of such battles were at Hansi and Nagour. Pajawan played major role in thease battles. Prithviraj Chauhan attacked Raja Parmardi Chandel of Mahoba. Pajawan was also with him in this battle. The battle was won by Prithviraj and he appointed Pajawan governor of Mahoba.

In 1185 Raja Jaichand of Kannauj organised Swayamvara of his daughter Sanyogita. All prominent kings and princes were invited in this ceremony but he deleberately avoided Prithviraj Chauhan. Furthermore he placed an earthen statue of Prithviraj at the entrance of the venue, posing him to be doorman. Prithviraj got information about it. He arrived at Kannauj in disguise together with his trusted generals. Pajawan was also with him. When Sanyogita chose Prithviraj as her would be husband by placing garland on the statue of Prithviraj. He took her with him on a horse and escaped. Pursuing forces of Jaichand got engaged with Pajawan in a firce battle. Pajawan his three brothers Palanasi, Jaitsi, and Kansi and two sons Balbhadra and Bhinvsi were killed in this battle while Pajwans son Malayasi seriously wounded. It is said that Pajawan fought 64 battles in his life. He was a great warrior. Some authors believe that Pajawan was not killed in 1185 at Kannauj but accomanied Prithviraj Chauhan III in the First Battle of Tarain in 1191 and was killed in it.

Upon death of Pajawan Chandbardai said:
Aaj rad dhilladi, aaj Dhundhar anathai
Aaj adin Prithviraj, aaj sanwant bin mathai
Aaj par dal dal jor, aaj nij dal bhram bhagge
Aaj mahi bin kasam, aaj marjad ullage
Hinduwan aaj tuti dhili, aaj turkani ucchatiya
Kuram Pajjun marata thakan, manu chap gun tuttiya
(Today the fight has weakened, today Dhundhar has become orphan. Today Prithviraj has become a fighter without head. Today enemies forces have become strong, and own forces are in confusion. Today the land has started crossing her limitations like a widowed woman. Today Hindus lost their heart and invaders encouraged. With the death of "Kurma"(Kachwaha) Pajjun, Prithviraj has become a bow with broken string.)

Puarana Qila

It is believed that the Pandavas had built their capital, Indraprastha at the place where the old fort stands today. This fort, now in ruins, was the seat for administration for many emperors. The legendary Prithviraj Chauhan ruled from here till he was defeated by Abdali in the battle of Panipat. A new light & sound show is held by the Department of Delhi Tourism every evening. Timings and Tickets are available from the tourist office.

Neemrana
Situated 122 km from New Delhi, on a rocky outcrop just above an unspoilt village, lies Neemrana, the site of a majestic fort built in 1464 by Prithviraj Chauhan III. The Neemrana Fort, as it is known, has now been converted into a heritage resort.

LAL KOT

Suraj Pal's descendent, Anangpal, often described as the founder of Delhi, built the citadel of Lal Kot, some 10 kilometres from Suraj Kund. The kingdom of Delhi was captured by the Chauhan Rajputs in the 12th century. Prithviraj III built massive ramparts around the area and called it Quila Rai Pithora. They were later demolished by the slave kings and Lal Kot became the site of the first mosque in India - Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid.

==Qutb ud-Din Aibak occupies Delhi (1192-93): By Muhammad Ghuri's order, his military slave-general Qutb ud-Din Aibak occupies the newly-conquered Delhi and governs it as a part of the Ghurid kingdom. Qutb ud-Din inherits the fort recently renamed by Prithviraj Chauhan the "Qila Rai Pithaura" (the former Lal Kot); he considers some building projects of his own.

Neemrana Fort Palace
Built since 1464 AD, Neemrana Fort-Palace is among India's oldest heritage resorts. Neemrana became the third capital of the descendants of Prithviraj Chauhan III, who was killed in battle by Mohammad Ghori in 1192 AD. This picturesque site was chosen by Raja Rajdeo and Neemrana derived its name from a brave local chieftain Nimola Meo, who when defeated by the Chauhans, pleaded that his name be given to his lost kingdom.

It is Rajasthan's closest palace from New Delhi, situated at 122 kms. on the Delhi-Jaipur highway - only 100 kms from Delhi's international airport. Sited on a majestic plateau, concealed in a horseshoe formation of the billion year old Aravalli ranges.

The property covers 25 acres/10 hectares and the stepped palaces of this architectural jewel cut into the hillside to sprawl over 3 acres/1.2 hectares and rises to 10 levels commanding the most splendid views. Including a vista pool to the horizon. From 1986, the ruins of this Fort-Palace have been sensitively restored and reconstructed. The rooms are furnished with an eclectic mix of traditional Indian and colonial furniture, antiques and objets d'art. Most rooms have private balconies or terraces and the loos are designed to have views!

Prithviraj Smarak

Prithviraj Chauhan III was the last of the great Chauhan rulers of Ajmer who left a deep imprint in the sands of time and redefined the concept of valour in its noblest form.

Prithviraj Chauhan III came from a distinguished line of rules who had elevated Ajmer to the position of the premier power in north Indian when even the Tomar rulers of Delhi paid homage to them. Prithviraj was the son of Someshwara who died in 1179 A.D.
