SANYOGITA(PART 2)
Sanyogita smiled at vaishali's serious expression, as they sneaked into the palace.
Her best friend, confidante and partner in crime took her job very seriously.
"What rajkumari sanyogita wants, rajkumari sanyogita gets", seemed to b her motto in life.
Today had been just another example of her absolute loyalty and never say die attitude.
After noticing how tense she was getting and also the fact that today was the day, four years ago ,that the new king of Delhi had been crowned., Vaishali had come up with a plan to distract her.
Which had resulted in their being at the mela in a nearby village. Even better had been the fact that there was an archery competition there. If there was one thing vaishali knew , would get sanyogita to release some of the anxiety, it was archery. She had been rite as usual.
Sanyogita did feel better and the sense of panic in her gut seemed to have lessened.
She was grateful to vaishali who always went above the call of duty for her.
The past 4 years had changed a lot. Sanyogita knew, without Vaishali by her side, she wouldn't have been able to get to where she was now.
She could now look back at her past without breaking down everytime. she had now learned to control her emotions. No one who looked at her would have been able to tell, that behind the serene smile was a heart that was broken.
Four years ago, when she had turned away the love of her life, a part of her had died. The pain had almost driven her to the brink but it was vaishali who had held her hand and refused to give up on her. She would sit by her side ,nite after nite, as she went thru anguish, pain, anger and finally acceptance.
Then three years ago, it had again been vaishali, who had stayed by her side, when she had discovered the truth of her father's treachery.
The memory of that moment was burned in her mind for eternity.
She had been walking past her father's chambers when she had overheard him and chachaji.
She had discovered the full extent of her father's deceit and a part of her had died again.
The world crashed around her and the only thing she could see was "His" eyes begging her to understand ,pleading with her to listen.
But she hadn't.She had held him responsible and had turned him away in pain and fury.
After the accidental confession she had heard, her shock hadn't worn off for days.
That's when vaishali had again come to her aid. Slowly but surely ,she had managed to coax the truth out of her and even though she too had been horrified ,she had first turned to the task at hand. She had gotten one of the beautiful jade vases the king had specially ordered for the princess and silently offered it to her.
It took sanyogita a few min to register wat vaishali was trying to do.
And that moment had been cathartic. As the vase shattered into a hundred pieces, vaishali had handed her another one and then again one more..
The nite ended with 12 broken vases, two overturned flower urns and one broken mirror and a livid but exhausted sanyogita.
The next day she had left for maya ma's ashram and it was a full two years before she returned home to kannauj.
In those two years she was a changed person .Her beauty had matured with age and so had her personality.
At the ashram she had thrown herself into her studies. She kept herself busy by actively taking part in everything from dance to poetry. She had also discovered his talent for archery. As she kept getting better and better, most ppl ,maya ma included, thought it was becoz of the intense rivalry between her and rajkumari indravati which had returned with a vengeance.
But vaishali and sanyogita were the only ones who knew the truth.
The reason sanyogita would exhaust herself during the day was so she could sleep at nite.
The insomnia had started a few days after she had come to the ashram.
When it wasn't insomnia, she would have fitful sleep, and then there were the nightmares. They occurred often enough to scare her from sleeping, and memories made her want to escape into sleep. The result would b a stressed nite caught between dread and relief. Some nites she sat by her windows till sunrise, others she would wake drenched in sweat, her arm stretched out in front of her as if to stop him from leaving.
As time had gone by ,she had learned to accept them.
Time passed by and glowing reports of her progress reached kanauj. The only thing she made sure remained a secret was her archery.
After she had come home, her fame had spread beyond kanauj and thru out the country. Her beauty and grace become the talk of the princely courts and she soon became widely accepted as the most outstanding princess of her time.
Sanyogita always thought that her father's position may hav had something to do with this, but she personally didn't care.
Her father was happy, her mother and grandmother were proud. She supposed that would have to do.
As her eyed drifted shut, she heard a whisper, just like she heard it so often " we will meet again ,Sanyogita. If it is destined, it will happen"
Ankhon se tu dour hai ..
DHarkanon k pas hai ..
Teri har yadein sanam ..
Kehte hain kha k hum kasam ..
BAn kar labon pe payas hai . .
Tu hogaya hum se judaa
Kehne ki bas yeh baat hai
Ankhon main baan ke ashk tu
Har pal humare saath hai
Tere bin yeh zindagi
Lagti hai kar mera yakeen
Kehte hain kha k yeh hum kasam
Jaise koi banwas hai.
