So this show has me on the ropes with its different concept and characterization. However, it also has me thinking of what our society deems to be "Uneducated".
Everyone has a hobby in the show apart from Sakshi and Karan who like to continuously pin Sharda about being uneducated. Which would be fine if EVERYTHING wasn't based on that.
If someone praises her for her management skills its awkward for her husband because she apparently is of no use to him. Why?
Does not knowing how to read and write snatch away a person's skills? If yes, then our ancestors were probably junglees who weren't civilized. However, history says that this wrong because our ancestors had vast amount of knowledge and lived properly without having the need to read and write.
Sharda at least has the manners to not put down people of her own family in front of a third person. She also knows how to act cordially in society, so what is the problem? That she does not know English? But then again, India's national language is Hindi so why should she not continue speaking in Hindi.
I live outside of India but it bothers me so very much when people look down upon different languages. It's a language! Just a method of communication! You can not have one being superior to another.
Coming back to my question though, how EDUCATED are the rest of the Modis really? Her husband is educated yet can not respect his wife or educate her. Her daughter can not respect her or her husband probably due to his financial problems. Being educated gives people a sense of perspective, it's supposed to make them wiser and more understanding. Ironically, the rest of the Modis do not qualify or attribute to any of these qualities while Sharda does.

P.S: These were just my thoughts and opinion. If anyone feels otherwise then they are most welcome to share their opinion.

this is a timess question and there is no right or wrong answer .
But to very specific question of Sharda ... lets be honest .. education does mean literacy and knowing your alphabets whatever the language. In india it does happen to be English, hindi or a regional language. if you do not know the alphabets in any of these languages you are in deep deep shit. In that sense Sharda is not educated. Is she wordly wise, experiences, empathetic .. yes . is that enough NO

True...Mostly it is the knowledge of english which makes you look/feel educated or uneducated.
For me Sharada is more human than rest of Modi family.Indians like english speaking persona. They think it has something connected to being superior. Can't blame My fellow Indians. After all english speaking, white coloured saab ruled us for so many years.

Its herd mentality here in India where people look down upon a person who is uneducated and living in town / city.

I completely agree with you. Sharda lost out on the opportunity of education when she was younger due to certain circumstances but because of her being uneducated doesn't mean people should trod all over her and disrespect her. Her whole family is educated on paper but as people if you are not a good hearted and respectful person what is the use of that degree or that business?
One thing that really irked me was Suresh is all promoting women empowerment but if he truly cared wouldn't he have helped his wife to learn the basics and bring her forward. It is not Sharda's fault it is infact his fault that all he has given her is money. He has never respected her or valued what she does for him. In his eyes she is his maid that's it. All of this promotion on women is all for publicity. Shame on people like Suresh. Infact, though Karan is not interested in working and is not completely matured but at least he sticks up for his mom I really hope he helps Sakshi.
What is it with the dadi as well? She started blaming Sharda as well? Its just disgusting. A thought provoking post!

There is a difference between Educated and Literate .
Literate is the one who can read and write not necessarily Educated.
