Chapter 29
Today was another normal day at work. Everyone had wished me happy birthday and we had a nice lunch party, but I was eagerly waiting for dinner tonight with Raghu. Raghu came to pick me up and we went back home together. We were walking from the jeep to the door when I told Raghu that Arjun, Piya and Ranveer would be coming for the reception and that they were coming tomorrow. When we got inside, I found a pile of gifts sitting on the table. "Yeh sab kya hain?" I asked. "Tere liye hain," Raghu replied. "Yeh sab tumne kiya?" I asked. "Haan, aur isse phele ki tu apna bhashan shuru kar de, yeh sun le ki yeh sab tere liye hi hain aur tujhe yeh rakhne hi padenge," he replied. I sighed and sat down. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy getting gifts but Raghu took things to a whole different level. I couldn't argue with him so I just opened one of the gifts. It was a beautiful red saree. I opened another and found a small teddy that said I Love You on it. Another one had a box of chocolates. I opened the rest of the gifts and when I got to my last gift, I opened it to find a guitar. It was similar to the one that I had had before. Wait a minute. I counted the gifts and realized that there were 20 gifts. Why were there 20? 1 gift could have been enough too. "Yehi soch rahi hain na, ki bees gifts kyun hain?" he asked. "Haan," I replied. "Tu aaj kitne saal ki hui hain?" he asked. "Twenty-two," I replied. I was 22 years old so 22 gifts for each year. But here there were only 20. "Ek toh maine tujhe raat ko hi de diya tha. Aur ek, tujhe aaj raat milega. Ab samajh aaya?" he asked. Raghu was so sweet. I got up and gave him a hug. "Raghu, you are the best," I said. He hugged me back and said, "Jaanta hoon." I broke the hug and looked at Raghu. He still had his hand around my waist and was saying something about the gifts but I wasn't paying any attention. I leaned in and gave him a kiss on his cheek. He looked at me shocked. But then he smiled and gave me a loving look that made me feel so lucky to have him in my life.
I was telling her about the gifts when I felt her kiss me on the cheek. I looked at her. I couldn't believe she just did that. But she did. I smiled at her and saw her blushing and looking at the ground. I gently brought her face up and she looked into my eyes. "Ahem," mom said. I let go of Antara. "Mom, aap ki timing hamesha galat kyun hoti hain?" I asked. "Meri nahi, tum dono ki timing galat hoti hain," she said. Then we heard the door open and saw Riya walk in. She came straight up to Antara and gave her a hug. "Happy birthday Antara," she said. "Thank you," Antara replied. "Antara, humari reservation 7 waje ki hain toh tu timese tayaar hojana," I said and went up to my room.
"Bhai tume date par le ke jaa rahe hain?" Riya asked. "Haan," I replied. "Wow, toh chalo. Main tumari tayaar hone mein madat kar deti hoon," she said and took my hand "Ek minute," I said and picked up the red saari that Raghu had given me. "Aunty, aap baad mein yeh saman mere kamre mein rakhwadengi please?" I asked. "Haan, tum jao aur tayaar ho jao. Riya, aache se tayaar karna," Aunty said. Once we got upstairs, I showed Riya the saari. "Wow, Bhai ki bhi na, kamal ki choice hain. Tum aaj yeh saari pehen ke jaana. I'm sure ke Bhai hosh hi ud janeynge," she said. After that, I changed and got ready. I wore a pair of simple silver earrings and silver bangles on one hand. "Antara, you look amazing," Riya said once I was done getting ready. I looked at my self once more in the mirror. I was still wearing the necklace that Raghu had given me. "Saach?" I asked. "Haan, ab chalo, Bhai ke saath date pe nahi jaana?" she asked.
"Dad mujhe aap ki car ki chabhi chaiye," I said, waking into his room. I had changed my clothes and was wearing a black blazer with a black dress shirt and a red tie. "Kyun, teri jeep kharab ho gayi kya?" he asked. "Dad main Antara ko bahar le kar jaa rahan hoon. Jeep mein formal nahi lagta," I replied. "Theek hain. Drawer mein chabhi pari hui hain, le lena," he said. "Thanks dad," I said and grabbed the keys and ran down the stairs. "Mom, Antara kahan hain?" I asked. "Sabar nahi ho ra kya? Arre woh tayaar hone gayi hain," she replied. "Bhai, dekhiye, aap ki Miss Kaul aa gayi," I heard Riya say. I looked at the top of the stairs and saw Antara coming from behind Riya. She was wearing the red sari that I had given her. She looked even more beautiful in it than I had imagined when I bought it. Riya brought her to stand next to me. "Bhai," she said snapping her fingers in front of me. I got out of my trance and looked at her. "Huh?" I said. "Antara ko le kar jaiye bhai," she said. "Haan, chal," I said. Antara smiled and started to walk towards the door. "Bhai, maine ghar aane se phele sab tayaari check kar li thi. Good luck," she said. "Thank you," I said, giving her a hug and walking behind Antara.
"Kya plan kiya hain Raghu ne?" mom asked. "Mom, Bhai ne Antara ke liye bahut bara surprise plan kiya hain," I said and told her what Raghu had planned. "Sach?" mom asked. "Haan mom. Saach," I replied. Hopefully everything would go as planned.
We walked out and I took Antara's hand and led her towards Dad's car. I opened the door for her and she said, "Thank you." I smiled and walked to the driver's side and got in.
