First of all, I have never understood why Ganga is kept upstairs. It is evident that in the nature of an emergency (fire/earthquake/ thieves) not even related to childbirth complications, that climbing down steps in a hurry will not be a feasible move.
There is one guest room downstairs where badi mausi used to stay when she was a guest, and that could have been renovated. If it is not available for whatever reason, ganga should be kept in the living room. The singhs can easily construct a partition or a curtain for privacy for her...or dadisa is rich enough that within two days she can easily have a small offshoot room or alcove type of cubby hole created as an annexe to the main haveli.
Second of all, at all points there must be a contingency plan in place for emergencies. Last minute helter-skelter running should be avoided.
while bhairon being at anandi's anniversary is understandable and Jagya ot being reachable is also understandable, I didnt understand the excuse of Basant having left his phone at home.
Does dadisa have no way of reaching Basant - would his driver not have a cell phone? what about munimji and hundreds of other workers working at the go-down?
And finally, I found the nurse thoroughly useless. If someone is breathless you first strap on an oxygen mask or an oxygen task on the patient to help them breathe. That means the trained nurse is no better than an untrained village midwife.
I am not saying that nurses can be equipped to predict or handle all eventualities. But breathlessness during pregnancy is such a common occurrence and even this little problem could not be handled by the nurse is quite amusing.
