"It was a cold winter night in Kattgodham, where Suvreen sat by a small lake all alone lost in various thoughts. She felt someone stood behind her; she hastily turned around when her eyes met with cold chocolaty brown eyes. Here he was standing right in front of her, the one who she never saw after that very day when they had decided to part ways. But, what was he doing back in her life again. "I am back Topper, I am back." he said in his calm manly voice."
Suvreen woke from her deep sleep all of a sudden scared to death. She looked around in fear but only to find that it was just a dream. Why such a dream all of a sudden? Nineteen years back, she had closed Yuvraj Singh's chapter forever in her life. She did not want him back in her life again; she did not want to go through the same pain yet again. But yet again today she had seen him in her dreams.
Suvreen walked from there towards the kitchen downstairs to get herself a glass of water. On her way her eyes fell on a picture of Suvreen and Yuvraj's family clicked when they were small kids, hung besides the wall clock that pointed 1 O'clock. She tried to ignore that picture because all that it did was to remind her first of all the good times but which would slowly turn out to bring tears in her eyes. She resumed her walk to the kitchen.
A lot had changed ever since Yuvraj and his family had moved to Delhi. Suvreen could never find herself a best friend like him, a best friend who would understand every emotion of hers, a friend who she would play hide and seek with in the evenings as a small kid, a friend who would provide her with a shoulder to cry on when her Mumma (Mother) would scold her, a friend who would intervene each time her Puppa (Dad) would shout at her out of anger for being naughty. She now had grown up and now had a life of her own. She had tried to forget him and remove every memory associated to him from her life; however she could not do so probably because it was impossible for her to think herself without him.
She turned on the lights in the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. Her eyes fell on the strawberry ice-cream bowl kept in there. She was taken down the memory lane...
Suvreen was just four years old then, while Yuvraj was six. They were at Yuvraj's place trying to solve the new jig-saw puzzle that Yuvraj had won in the recitation competition in school recently, when they heard the bell of the Ice-Cream vendor. Suvreen got excited even with the prospect of her going to have her favourite strawberry ice-cream. She looked and Yuvraj and told excited, "Yuvi, Come let's get ourselves some Ice-Cream?"
Yuvraj was too lost in finding the solution for the puzzle and completely ignored Suvreen. This certainly did not go well with the small tigress and angrily she destroyed the half built puzzle to draw Yuvraj's attention.
That was it; the young Cheetah (Form of Tiger) could not control his anger anymore. He stood and yelled, "Hey, you mad or what? Don't you dare do that again?" Suvreen for the first time had seen this side of him and she started crying out loud. After she had gone is when he had realized what harm he had done. He felt guilt overtake him.
He went running after her, calling out for her but to only find that she had disappeared. He looked for her at all places possible but only for vein. He was shivering with fear as he was walking towards the nearby lake. He cried all along, when he found someone sitting in the lakeside. He walked close to check that it was, and he was surprised to find it was none other than his Suvreen. He went running to her, "I am really sorry Suvreen. Trust me I did not mean to hurt you. Mother promise." She did not agree and was pouting in anger. He added in, "Please I am sorry. Come we will eat Strawberry Ice-Cream." "Really?" she enquired with a gleam of joy in her eyes.
All this was when they were just small kids. How well he understood her, how much they cared for each other. There was so much of love and care hidden in their cute little fights, however today here they were like strangers.
Suvreen sat down in the kitchen and wept in silence. She spoke to her only friend after Yuvraj, god "Why lord? Why did I have to dream about that heartless guy? Why do you always like me crying? Is it that you don't like to see me smiling? Don't I deserve any happiness?"
