Chapter 19

Throughout the entire car ride home, I noticed that Antara was acting weird. Whenever I tried talking to her, she wouldn't answer properly. I was confused about her behavior. Every time I looked at her, she blushed and looked away. When we reached home, I was greeted by my mom, who had tears in her eyes. "Mom mujhe kuch nahi hua, aap please rona band kijiye," I said. "Tum andar chalke aaram karo, Antara tum bhi," she said and took us in.

I didn't know how to react in front of him. It was really confusing. After changing out of my blood stained clothes and taking a shower, I felt much better. I called the hospital where I was going to go for my internship and confirmed the orientation for tomorrow. Today was Wednesday and I was supposed to start on Friday. I was getting bored in my room so I went downstairs. Riya had gone to college so I couldn't talk to her. Instead, I went to the kitchen and saw Rukhsana aunty. She was making something. "Kya bana re ho aunty?" I asked. "Raghu ke liye soup bana rahi hoon," she said. "Main bana do?" I asked. "Haan tum soup bana do, tab tak main zaara bazaar hoke aati hoon. Mujhe kuch saaman chaiye. Theek hain na?" she asked. "Ji," I said. "Tume kuch chaiye?" she asked. "Nahi," I replied. "Ok. Jab soup ban jaye na, toh please Raghu ko de dena," she said. "Sure aunty," I said and turned towards the stove.

I was lying down on my bed when mom came in. "Raghu, main zara bazaar se aati hoon. Antara neeche hain, tumare liye soup bana rahi hain. Agar tume kuch chaiye toh use bula lena," she said and was about to leave when I said "Mom mujhe aap se baat karni hain." "Haan bolo," she said. "Antara na bahut ajeeb se behave kar rahi hain," I said. "Raghu, iss baar main tumari madat nahi karne wali," she said. "Par kyun mom?" I asked. "Raghu, tume bhi paata hain ki kya hua hain. Maine Antara ke chere par pad liya. Ab bas tumari samajh mein aane ki deri hain," she said. "Mujhe paata hain? Really?" I asked my self. After mom left, I was trying to figure out what had happened to Antara. After 10 minutes, I finally got it. She was in love with me. It was the same way that she was behaving before as well. All of a sudden I heard a knock at the door and I looked up and saw Antara. She was wearing a white top and jeans and looked as adorable as ever. She still wouldn't look at me though. Some things never change, I guess. "Woh Aunty ne kaha tha ki main tume soup de do," she said and came to give the tray. She put the tray down and was about to leave when I called her "Eh Miss Kaul, tu kaha jaa rahi hain? Mujhe soup kaun pilaga?" I said. My right hand was bandaged and I was right handed. I couldn't do much with my left hand so it was a good excuse. "Tumare do haath hain," she said. "Haan par mera ek haath toh" I said, showing her my bandaged hand. "Oh," she said. "Tu pilade na," I said. "Woh..." she was hesitating. "Miss Kaul, ghar mein aur koi nahi hain, sirf main aur tu hain. Aur waise bhi, agar mere haath pe yeh paati bandhi hoti na, toh main tumse nahi kheta," I said. She slowly came and sat on the bed next to me and took the tray. Her hand was shaking. "Miss Kaul, main tujhe kha nahi jaunga," I said. "Huh?" she said, looking confused. "Tu darr kyun rahi hain?" I asked her. "Nahi toh," she said. "Mujhe daar nahi lagta." "Haan haan. Tu toh James Bond hain na? Tere haath kyun kaamp re hain?" I asked. It was fun teasing her. Just a little bit longer. Than I would tell her everything. "Woh," she said again. "Miss Kaul, phirse woh?" I asked. She didn't say anything and moved the spoon towards my mouth. I drank the soup. She still wouldn't look at me. I was staring at her the entire time she was feeding me the soup. Her actions were so predictable. After she was done, she quickly got up from the bed. "Yeh tune bana hain?" I asked. "Haan," she said. "Accha bana hain," I said. If it was possible for her to turn anymore red, she did. "Mujhe kaam hain," she said and quickly ran out. "Yeh ladkia itna sharmati kyun hain?" I asked my self. I looked at the clock and saw that Riya's classes would be over soon. I messaged her and asked her to pick up the pictures that I had ordered. I was going to do my best to make this special for her.

The second I got out of his room, I ran down to the kitchen and tried to control my racing heart. I couldn't keep this from him any longer. But how was I supposed to tell him? I don't think that I had ever been this confused in my entire life. I walked back up to my room and sat down for a bit. I called Piya and told her everything about my feelings for Raghu. She sounded really excited. She told me to wait though. That if Raghu felt the same way, he should take the first step. I didn't want to wait but I agreed to it. I spent another hour or so talking to her about my time in Mumbai so far. I heard some noise from downstairs so I told piya that I would call her later and went to go see what was making so much noise. I walked downstairs and saw that Riya was bringing some really big pictures that were wrapped. "Riya, yeh sab kya hain?" I asked. "Maine usse kaha tha yeh sab leke aane ke liye," Raghu said from behind me. "Oh," I said and headed back to my room. I was curious to know what was in that but I guess it would have to wait. The tiredness from the night before finally got to me and I fell asleep.
