Chapter 20

Geet had let her house be cleaned and restored to its old way. She hadn't been living here for long but every corner of the house whispered only one name to her: Sohan.

Riya and Armaan went up to their rooms and unpacked. Geet was amazed at how well Armaan was doing his own task. Usually he would yell for the maid.

Riya joined Geet in the kitchen.

"Let me help you Geet. You can teach me cooking so I can share the work."

"Thanks Ria but I don't want you to spend your precious vacations on all these household work."

"But I want to help you. Anyways you are the one spending too much time in office. Where are the pans?" Riya looked around.

"Ask the cook, she knows."

"Why, I thought you did the cooking."

"Yes I do, but since you guys moved out I started living in MC. I got the top floor renovated into an apartment." Riya was stunned but then she said:

"His memories still hunt you, don't they?" Geet was silent but Riya understood.

After dinner they all called it an early night. Geet hesitantly stepped into her old bedroom.

"Sohan, let me sleep na."

Sohan had been trying to wake Geet up for the last hour.

"Geet, usually it is the dutiful wife who makes her husband get up and get ready for office, here am I trying to get you to get ready. I even have to make breakfast and that too on the first day after marriage." Sohan pouted and Geet kissed his cheek.

"But you said that I am your princess. And princess wants to sleep."

"Fine, then no point of making breakfast" Sohan removed his apron and jumped onto the bed. He purposely laid full length on Geet.

"Sohan, get off me you are not really a feather."

"But I thought you wanted to sleep, so sleep and let me sleep, too." He faked a snore and Geet tried to push him off without much success.

Sohan smiled. He kept his eyes closed and buried his nose in Geet's neck. He gently kissed her.

"What are you doing Sohan?"

"Do I really have to tell you after yesterday?" Geet blushed.

"Please Sohan I need to get ready"

"But you wanted to sleep, so let's sleep" Geet pushed him off her with all her might and made a run for the bathroom before Sohan could catch up.

Geet closed her eyes. She changed into her night dress and took blanket and pillow. She looked at the rocking chair and wanted to sit their, but again Sohan's memory invaded her peace. She left and went to the guest room. She lay down on the bed. She turned and twisted but sleep was nowhere near. Eventually she just waited and waited for its arrival. Next morning she woke up and saw Riya sitting on the edge of the bed, caressing her hair.

"Morning Riya, you woke up already?" Riya nodded. Geet looked at her watch; she had just slept four hours.

"This place doesn't give you any peace Geet; I think it might be better to move out."

"I can't leave you two alone."

"We will be joining you of course. Is your apartment big enough for us three?" Geet nodded.

"And Armaan? He will not like it there."

"Geet for once stop thinking about others, please. Look at yourself. If bhai saw you like this, what would he think?" Riya was in tears. Geet wiper her tears and agreed.

"I need to check on the office work. I will arrange for your stuff to be sent to the apartment."

"Vicky where are you?" Geet asked once she reached MC. Vicky had taken two weeks leave, the exact same time as her.

"I am at KC right now and you?"

"KC? So you left?" Geet's sounded a little hurt.

"No, it is just for two weeks then I'll be back. I will show them here that I am absolutely good for nothing and then they will fire me and I can happily join you again. Where are you?"

"At MC. Riya and Armaan are moving in with me up here. I can't stay at my home." Geet lowered her voice. Vicky sensed that she was remembering Sohan. He wondered when Geet will move on.

"Geet, I am coming you don't move from there." Vicky ran towards the exit and bumped into Maan who was coming towards him.

"Sorry, need to rush."

"Where to?"

"Geet."

"Geet? Anything serious?"

"She just needs me right now." Vicky raced off and Maan felt jealous and angry. On one way Vicky was telling him Geet was not his type, yet he cared for her so much. And why was Vicky such a good friend with her in the first place and not with him? Why did Geet befriend everyone apart him?

And now Vicky had raced off to Geet. Wait, she was back again? He called Vicky's driver and asked him where he was heading. The driver told him without letting Vicky know.

"Geet, please calm down." Geet was shaking badly in Vicky's embrace. He had rushed to MC and saw Geet in tears. She wouldn't stop so he hugged her and rubbed her back soothingly.

Maan had rushed after Vicky and saw the scene. His heart constricted. He felt out of breath.

Geet calmed down and Vicky wiped her tears.

"You need to let go Geet. You are mature enough to know he won't come back. I won't say I know how much it pains because I have never been in this situation before. But I am sure he wouldn't want to see you like this. And by breaking down you are also making Riya and Armaan worried." The mention of Riya and Armaan calmed her down. She smiled at Vicky and thanked him. Maan had left; the one moment had been too much for him. He walked along to the office area. Again the employees stopped at his sight. He just walked till he saw the MD's office. There was someone in there. He opened the door.

"STOP." A voice bellowed. Maan stopped. It was a young voice.

"Don't you know that you knock before entering?" Maan was taken aback. No one dare talk to him like this.

"Listen, I am Maan Singh Khurana. I don't ask for permission to enter but it is an honour for people to have me in their office." Maan said arrogantly.

"If you are Maan Singh Khurana then I am Armaan Mishra, future MD of Mishra Constructions." Maan was interested in this person.

"Future MD?" he asked curiously.

"Yes. In future I will run this place."

"First finish school and get a degree, then I will think of letting you work here." A girl put her hands on her hips. The chair turned and Maan was stunned to see a small boy sitting on the big leather chair.

"Oh no, Riya didi, how did you find me?" his voice was like a boy again.

"I could hear you through the corridor. Why are you sitting in this office anyways? You know Geet will scold you if she sees you." The boy jumped off the chair and as he reached Maan, stuck up his nose and proudly walked by.

"Sorry if he was a little rude. He is just a kid." Riya apologised to Maan. She recognised him, after all who didn't know him. Both brother and sister left.

Maan felt like an idiot, being fooled by a small child. All this was just making his temper rise incredibly.

He went back and saw Geet.

"Tell me how do you two like this place?" Geet lifted Armaan and twirled around with him.

"It looks different from last time. Much nicer and... friendlier." Riya answered looking around.

"Yes, it was all Geet's ideas we used here. She even got us a proper canteen and relaxation quarter upstairs, did you guys see?" Vicky took Riya and Armaan with him to show them around.

Geet turned to see Maan standing there.

"What are you doing here Mr Khurana?" Geet wondered. She had heard from the watchman that Maan had been to her house asking for her.

"I was looking for Vicky."

"Why?"

"He has taken your place at KC now."

"And since when do you run after employees" Geet asked sarcastically.

"It was not my employee but my brother I was running after." Geet stood stiff.

"Your brother?" she asked in an emotionless tone.

"Yes, Vicky is my youngest brother, didn't you know?"

"No I didn't but thank you for telling me. I will call him straight away." Geet made her way upstairs. She saw Vicky, Riya and Armaan joking around. Without a word she pulled Vicky with her. When they were on the stairs she turned and asked him

"Why did you never tell me you are Maan Khurana's brother?" Vicky was shocked, how did she find out.

"How...?"

"Your brother came looking for you." She waited a minute longer and silently left from there. Vicky followed and saw Maan.

"Great bhai, you just had to ruin everything." Vicky burst out at his brother once they were in the car.

"Why did you follow me in the first place? What was it of your business where I was going?"

"I don't understand why you are so mad at me?"

"Why did you tell Geet that I am your brother? We had such a good thing going and you came and ruined it." Maan didn't like the last sentence.

"What do you mean a good thing going?" Vicky sighed. This was too complicated to explain to his brother. Geet had over the time she had been at MC known Vicky as a young and talented guy. They had become very good friends and Geet had felt encouraged to share with him her most private feelings. Now, after knowing he was a Khurana it surely looked to her as if she was having a wolf in the disguise of a sheep in front of her. She was hurt big time and Vicky knew. If she would have know he was a Khurana from the start she wouldn't have been so open with him, one reason why he kept it to himself and told Adi to do the same.

Vicky just sighed. He had to do something quick.
