Chapter 18
Vicky had a bad time at KC. He felt like a university student who was being thought the ABC and explained that he had done it wrong all these years. Maan was so used to Geet's quick ways that Vicky seemed like a snail to him and he scolded him more than it was fair.
"I am NOT Geet for heavens sake." Vicky burst one evening when he was working with Maan. Maan had made his life a misery and the fact that he was still in office at ten was just adding to it. Maan got angry.
"Is this the way you talk to your boss, Vicky?" Vicky tried to calm down. Another big difference, Geet never saw herself as a boss but always as a friend.
"If you keep saying that I should be more like Geet then, yes. I have seen her speed and you have to admit that not even you can work as fast as her. So why do you expect me to do that?" Vicky left and went to his cabin. He took out his phone and called Geet.
Maan rubbed his temple. Vicky was right. It was more the frustration of not being able to see Geet than Vicky's speed that was causing him to be so mean. He stood up and went to Vicky's cabin. The door was slightly ajar and he heard Vicky talk.
"Geet come back soon, please, I really miss you." Vicky said in a pleading and sad voice. There was a minute's pause while Geet talked.
"You don't know how life is without you. Every minute is like living hell." Again Vicky listened to Geet's voice.
"Really? Ok we will fix a day and time to chat and make sure you have a web cam. Just let me know when, ok?" Vicky was excited when he hung up. He turned to see his brother on the door with a shocked expression on his face. Vicky knew Maan must have heard some on the conversation, but how much?
"What happened?" he asked casually.
"Who were you talking to this late?" Maan managed. The conversation or the bit he had heard was devastating. Did Vicky have something for Geet? Were they so close?
"My friend. Look, I don't think I can work any longer so can I leave?" Maan agreed. After this even he wouldn't be able to concentrate much. Maan drove and asked Vicky:
"So, you and Geet are friends?"
"Yes, pretty good ones." Vicky wondered about Maan's question.
"How close?" Vicky gave Maan a side look. Did he smell jealousy?
"We work together and so on so we became friends."
"Nothing more?" Vicky was sure there was something going on here. Maan was clearly interested in Geet but how much? After Samira she was the first girl to interest him. He had to find out and said:
"No nothing else. I mean she is nice and efficient in work but apart from that she is not much girlfriend material." Maan hit the breaks hard and the look Maan gave him made it all clear to Vicky. Maan liked Geet. This rage was a crystal clear proof.
"I mean, she is not really my type."
Geet had arrived at Armaan's school. The boy had been waiting for her to come and when he saw the car pull up in front of his hostel he wanted to run to her and give her a tight hug. But he didn't. He was angry on her as she had just shoved him off to boarding. He had concluded that she didn't love him anymore.
"Armaan?" She went through the corridors of the building. She had been here once before when she had made arrangements for his admission but she knew her place around. She knew how to get him out of his hiding.
"Ok then, if you don't want to come out I have to return the new video games I brought for you. I even have the brand new racing game which came out today." This did it. Armaan came out and screamed.
"No, don't return them, please." Armaan ran as fast as his feet would carry him, directly into Geet's open arms. They hugged tightly and Geet carried him to the car. She asked him about how he was doing and how he was enjoying vacations. Armaan had loads to tell her about boarding school and teachers and not to forget about how much he troubled his sister Riya. Geet took him out into the local city and bought him plenty of presents and ice cream and even took him for a movie. Later she arranged for him to stay with her at her hotel and checked out on Riya. She called and didn't go personally. Geet feared that if either of them just spilled one tear they wouldn't be able to control.
Days went on and Riya's exams came to an end. She literally sprinted out of the hall as soon as the bell rang for her to put her pen down. Geet and Armaan were waiting for her and so was the principle.
"Geet bhabi" she hugged her tightly.
"Riya, how was the paper?"
"If I don't get more than 90% I am not Riya Mishra" Riya said proudly.
"So good to hear. Well Riya, I think you should say good bye to your friends now. I hope you have a great time but remember to call on results day." The principle said affectionately and made her way to her office. Riya pulled Geet to her hostel. The warden allowed them in and Riya showed Geet her place and made her meet all her friends. The girls had heard about Sohan and Geet and Riya had made them swear no one would mention her brother. The topic was too emotional. All girls pulled Armaan's cheeks and even kissed him.
"Disgusting. Why do girls always have to kiss?" He made a face and wiped his cheeks with his shirt. They laughed and Riya bid farewell. She promised to keep in touch and they made their way. Geet had asked if both wanted to stay a little longer here but both just wanted to be back in Delhi. They left directly and on their way talked about various stuff. Geet could have taken the train, it would have been less hassle but she had missed the car drive. She wanted to ask Raj about driving her but was apprehensive, later she simply drover herself. In one way this resulted in her and Riya not talking much about work and Sohan especially since Armaan was sitting in the car, too. They made a rest and Geet stretched herself.
"You have lost weight." Riya said.
"Thank you."
"It wasn't a compliment Geet. You look ill. You are tired and probably didn't even eat properly." Riya looked at Geet and she tried to look away.
"It is just the stress because of work. Your brother was a dear guy but hopeless when it came to business. At least I have managed to bring the company back up. You want to meet my friend?" Geet pulled out her laptop and called Vicky. She hoped Riya would get distracted from her current thoughts.
