do you subscribe to the argument that elders should always be respected even if they keep interfering in one's life offering unsolicited advice and putting medicine secretly, just because their intention is good?

I believe respect is earned, be it elders or anyone. But that is just me. I do not believe that, just because someone is older than me I have to respect them, especially if they are not worthy of respect because of their actions. However, interfering for good is very different from malicious intent, so I would respect the fact that they mean and intend well, but their methods are wrong. So the respect would remain, while I would make sure they know the method they are using is wrong.

nice post...i would say sanchi wasn't wrong to shout at anandi but why shiv? shiv didn't interefere in her matters...he just shouted at her for speaking rudely with anandi who happens to be his wife...and the words saanchi spoke to shut up shiv was very wrong...so she wo't listen to shiv just becoz he isn't her real brother now...i have no real brother but still i respect all my cousin brothers and never said shut up to them even though they used to get possesive about unnecessarily...i think shiv should strictly tell anandi to keep away from saanchi

My mother always maintained that respect should be commanded and not expected. She always went by that principle. And I strongly believe in it as well.
As far as Anandi and Sanchi conversation go, I dont know much what is going on, but I think after a point in time, one has to just let go and give space. Allow the person to fall and make mistakes when he/she is beyond listening to anyone. I think Anandi should just let go instead of badgering Sanchi, as Sanchi is no frame of mind to listen to Anandi, however right Anandi may be.

Sometimes ignoring may be the best policy.. This are just my views right or wrong not sure...

Elders deserve politeness always - even if one doesn't want to respect them at times.
Here - Shiv walked in at a very opportune time for Anandi. She was getting the royal treatment from pyaari nanad but Shiv did not see how Anandi stood there with the glass and insisted Sanchi drink it "right now".

S was rude to Shiv which was not nice. But she was initially super saccharine sweet to Anandi and gave her a super opportunity to make her yet another fresh juice - "neat" - and bring on a tray again 🤗 afetr feeding her plant . I thought that was pretty loving of Sanchi. 😉

Am sorry Shiv missed that part. 😲

But seriously - I do believe that rudeness in any form is bad and especially to an elder.
If we don't like interference or feel the elder is just getting in the way whether well-meaning or deliberately meddling - there are ways to define your limits politely and put them in their place - WITHOUT being rude.

Respect is very different from polite. I feel respect and obedience has to be earned by elders - but politeness is something the young shud always exercise.

I think everyone should be civil to everyone big or small. I know I only use aap even if I'm talking to a child and not tu.
But..

That doesn't mean I respect everyone. Respect has to be earned or at least not given to those who degrade themselves. I won't fall to their level but I don't take things lying down.
