waiting eagerly.. finally... 😃
Maan, please tell me na where are we going.? I can't handle the suspense anymore.! She pleaded him for the nth time but only met with his annoyed glare, who seemed to irritated by her constant questioning.
Geet, you are so stubborn. I have been asking you from the past one hour to wait for a while till we reach but you don't get it do you.? He asked glaring at her.
I know but I can't wait for surprises. That's just how I am, since childhood. They make me curious and I don't rest until I get it out of the person who is hiding. So please don't be angry and just tell me before I annoy you more . I don't want to make you angry. She said with a honest face. Her words brought a smile on Maan's face as he chuckled at her innocence and she can be such a kid at times. Shaking his head Maan decided to answer her before she eats his brain off.
Fine, we are going to a beach which is located off the city, it's one of the famous and only beaches outside the city here. It's attached to the only few of the water bodies of Paris. It's mostly known for its scenic beauty and serenity. Happy now.? I have told you where we are going. He said with a teasing smile to which she just laughed.
We are going to a beach.? She asked excited.
Yes, have you seen one before.? He asked casually to which she nodded in denial.
I always wanted to go to one, but mom was too scared of water so she never approved of us going near water while we were kids. Later, she wasn't there to stop me either, with her gone the wish to go see one was gone too. But I want to see one.. Now.! She spoke looking at him. Maan felt his heart stir as he heard the change of tone in the last bit of her sentence, she wanted to see one now, he didn't miss the stress on now. As he tried to read her face, he saw the smile on her face which seemed different.
Then you will surely love this. He added, exciting her further and in an attempt to change the topic before her past memories would make her gloomy. Maan watched her admire the scenery as they glided though the highways of Paris. When they reached the beach, he saw the happiness on her face, the reaction he wanted to see.
Lets go Geet.! We are here. He said stepping out the car. Reaching her, Maan led the way towards the beach while Geet followed him slowly, admiring the beauty around her and felt it touching her heart, Maan was right, it indeed was serene as heaven, with the low wind blowing on their faces, carrying a sheet of small water droplets off the beach. The water touched the shore lightly before it receded back into its place, leaving the impressions of water on the rock while the waves crashed back into the water with a roar. Waves of booming laughter echoed around the place as she saw families enjoying around the beach and that's when the females across the beach caught her attention, she was too lost in the beauty of the beach to notice them until she saw a few looking in her direction. Her eyes widened in horror, seeing them looking in their direction.
Babaji, why are girls roaming around wearing almost nothing.? Chi chi chi..! She cribbed as they walked opposite the beach watching the waters touch the shore lightly and crash back with the impact of hitting the rocks. She looked forward at Maan, who was walking casually looking around the place, panicking Geet. How could she let him walk around such a place.?
Maan, what are all these girls wearing.? And they are doing that too.! She shrieked widening her eyes in horror as she saw the girls roaming around in bikins walking along side the beach while some couples kissed passionately. Her hands clamped on her mouth as it opened wide in horror and her high pitched voice did manage to grab some attention. Maan abruptly stopped walking hearing her voice and noticed people looking at her standing with her mouth shut with her hands. For a few moments he watched her confused , before it struck him what surprised her to such an extent. Embarrassed, he pulled her along prying her hands off her mouth as she kept gaping at the new surroundings around her.
Geet, apna muh band Karo.! Don't stare.! He whispered as she refused to stop staring at every person she passed by. Seeing her unaffected, he dragged her hurriedly towards their car, praying she wouldn't bombard him with something else before they were safely in their car. He couldn't help but laugh at himself for the numerous questions waiting for him. As they walked away from the beach and stood far off from prying eyes or ears, Maan let her go and pulled her hands off her mouth.
Geet, what are you doing.? Who shouts like that.? He asked her amazed. Hearing his words Geet looked at him confused.
What did I do.? Didn't you see what they were wearing and doing.? Who does that..? She chided looking in that direction again. Maan sighed in defeat and made her face him, he calmed himself down knowing this was tricky.
Geet, listen to me , this is their culture. That's just howm they are.! This is all very casual for them, so it's rude to watch them or stare at them and comment. I understand it must be difficult for you to adjust, but that's how it is. It's just how they are Geet. So promise me you won't stare at them, and even if you do happen to look, don't crib about it to your babaji. It's embarrassing. He explained to her, to which she listened quietly and nodded. Though she understood what he meant, there was one thing that still bothered her.
I promise I won't stare at them only if you promise to not look at them even once. She blurted out innocently. She didn't know why she felt uncomfortable walking with Maan on the beach with those females around them, she didn't know how and why but she couldn't tolerate the others being around them. Maan looked at her amazed as her words surprised him. Unknowingly, she was jealous without even realizing her own heart.
What.?? He asked her, raising his eyebrows. Geet realized what she blurted out and looked down in nervousness. Maan on the other hand wanted to know what she meant by that, but somehow his heart knew what she was trying to say.
Nothing. Should we go.? She asked trying to change the topic. Maan nodded, intently looking at her and led the way. When they reached the beach again, Geet tried concentrating more on the kids around the place than the adults to avoid any unwanted reactions. As they walked more towards the beach, her eyes unwontedly caught a girl looking in their direction. Geet looked more closely scrutinizing her gaze, she realized the girl was staring at Maan. Her mind and heart went into a hyperactive mode, she knew Maan was a charmer, with looks resembling a greek god, with personality any man would envy and a heart of pure gold. She was very well aware of him being the most eligible bachelor at a point of time, before they got married which was very playfully narrated by Dadimaa. Though she never bothered about all of the facts, yet today they seemed more relevant. She had the sudden urge to claim him, show the world where he belonged, her urge from the bottom of her heart took over her rationality and without thinking she slipped her arms into his, entangling them together, as they walked the beach together. Maan who was lost in the beauty of the place suddenly felt a pair of hands entwining with his own. As he looked down, he realized they were Geet's and she was walking the beach clinging to him. His mind commanded him to pry them off but on the contrary his heart was at peace, no tinge of consciousness or awkwardness claiming it. His mind and heart battled the argument while he watched her in confusion, trying to read what was occupying her mind, but she had turned her face away from him, yet something told him that there must be something bothering her for her to make the move. May be her mothers memories were troubling her heart, may be it was the new surrounding that was troubling her, whatever it was, the fact that she was troubled was enough for him to not pry her hands off. His heart finally won the battle over his brain and he walked the beach along with her, clinging to him. As they reached the other corner of the beach, Geet let go off his hand enchanted by the beauty of the place and ran towards the shore beaming in happiness. He watched her with a smile on his face, watching her playing around with the water.
Be careful with the water Geet.! He called out to her from behind. She looked back hearing his voice and beckoned him to come join her too to which he nodded and stayed back. Geet settled herself on the shore, the water touching her feet reminding her of her mom. How would have she reacted had she been there with her. Would she scold her, would she enjoy with her.? The thoughts occupied Geet's mind, while Maan admired the kids playing around the place. He watched Geet sitting on the shore, hugging her knees busy admiring the place and lost in her own thoughts, away from the hustle bustle of the people around the beach.
The only sound reaching Geet's ears was the sound of the waves crashing back into the water, until a faint cry caught her attention. As she looked around the waters surrounding her, she spotted a pair of hands peeping out the water trying to beat the water off. As she looked closely, it struck her that the person was trying to swim.
Maan... She called out loudly to him. Maan who was just a few feet behind her heard her loud an worried voice and looked in her direction to find her pointing towards the water. A few seconds later he clearly saw the reason of worry as he spotted a pair of tiny hands and realized the person might be drowning. Wasting no time, he ran towards the shore shaking his boots of his feet and threw his coat away ready to go into the water.
Stay here and don't move. I'll be back. She heard him say before she saw him disappear into the water. Geet scrutinized her gaze, trying to spot him in the water but all she saw was the haze which was coming off the waves. Fear gripped her heart as she could neither see the pair of hands nor Maan who was somewhere in the water. Suddenly it looked like luck was against them, as the waves crashed back with much more impact than before. Panic shook her as she desperately tired to search for him in the waters, but nothing seemed to work and all she could see was nothing until her vision started to blur with the tears forming in her eyes. Second turned into minutes and by now she could also hear the people surrounding the place, but her heart was still restless not seeing him back. Her heart finally found the beat as she saw his head emerging out of the water but before she could even smile, the tide caught him and he was gone, there was nothing except the water.
Maan !!! She screamed with all her might, as her agony finally came out in form of her scream and tears cascaded down her eyes. She knew nothing except for the fact that Maan could be in danger. Rationality seemed to give up, as she stepped off the rocks and flung herself into the water. It was better to face the waters with him than standing alone, crying to get one glimpse of him. He was her husband and it was her duty to stand by him in thick and thin, yet that was not the only reason why she jumped into the water. Only she knew how her heart sank each moment, after seeing him back and then being pulled back into the water. As she hit the water, it pierced her delicate skin like zillions of needles hitting her skin, but nothing could stop her from going to him. As she struggled through the water, trying to keep her self from drowning, she heard several people screaming in panic behind her but she cared less. Just as she lost the ground beneath her feet, she could feel her self being sucked in by the water. In an attempt to protest, she madly thrashed her hand and legs, fighting with the water. However, her efforts seemed worthless as she could feel the water sucking her in, as her head wobbled with the water crushing down on her. None of it stopped her from going deeper into the water, still trying to come back to the surface trying to trace him. All her efforts of reaching him for the one last time died as a wave thrashed upon her, throwing her off her balance. She felt the water filling her as she tired to cough out the water before it consumes her, but there was no way she could beat her way out of it. The silence the water harbored was endless, pulling her inside.

NEXT PART : PART 13
Are you okay Geet.? He asked in a hoarse and cold voice. Hearing his voice she let him go and looked at his face to find nothing, the face she saw momentarily when she opened her eyes was gone . It shocked her, how could he do it when a few seconds back his face held something different.? Without waiting for her answer, she felt Maan scoop her up in his arms and quietly walked out of the beach. He didn't utter a word as he strapped her in the car and took the seat besides her. She looked at him, still trying to read off his emotions but there was nothing except coldness. She looked away with fear building up in her heart, she knew he was angry at her and this may not be the best time to talk to him. All her way back, she tried to muster courage to apologize to him, but it looked like she had none at the first place. She watched him in confusion as she carried her to the cottage, with the same emotionless expression. As he put her on the bed and was about to walk off, she finally decided to speak.
Maan..she called out slowly and cautiously prepared for his reaction. As her voice reached him, the anger which he had been controlling all along seemed to finally snap out of his control and he turned to her, fuming.
What.? He snapped at her. Geet lost the tiny bit of courage she managed to build up seeing his anger. With a slight nod, she laid back on the bed stepping out of the non existent conversation making Maan feel guilty for snapping at her like that. He saw her closing her eyes and decided to sort it out later knowing she needed immense rest. He urgently needed to calm his senses down. Maan stood under the shower regretting his behaviour. Not once he asked her properly about how she was feeling nor did he wait for her answer despite seeing the way she sat on the beach; dejected and looking vulnerable, before the wave caught him. He was fuming at her for not obeying him and foolishly jumping into the water after him, when she hardly knew how to swim. The thought and image of her sinking into the water bothered him, making him restless once again. He remembered how he madly swam to her, as he saw her drowning, failing in her effort to swim. Only he knew how much it scared the hell out of him, before he reached her and pulled her out of the water. The thought of her drowning and being lost in the silence of the depths of the water made him restless by the minute and he ended up tearing across the tides, just in the nick of time to pull her out of the water . He could still remember the relief that washed over him she she finally opened her eyes but like always his anger was something beyond his control.
Maan turned off the shower, remembering how scared she looked while talking to him and how crudely he behaved even though she might have been just trying to apologize. Maan put on his clothes and came out of the washroom to find her sitting on the nearby chair, wrapped up in a blanket, trying to get heat off the fireplace.
Geet, what happened .? Are you okay.!.? He demanded, throwing the towel away and standing infront of her.. Geet who was lost in her thoughts got startled hearing his sudden voice.
Woh, I was actually feeling very cold, so I took the blanket and lit the fireplace. It's so warm and soothing.!.. She started explaining when she saw Maan busy fishing out something from the medicine kit and move to the glass with water. Maan stood infront of her with the medicine and glass ready eying for her to take it. She hardly felt the cold hitting her as she was too lost in his concern. Maan eyed the medicine intently which she took without further arguments, staring at him..
Why didn't you tell me that you weren't felling well .? Looks like you have caught fever, since I brought you here without drying you. Geet you should have told me right.? You know how I behave when I am angry.! He scolded her.
I thought you were angry, so I didn't want to make it worse so I didn't say anything. She murmured to him, shocking him more with her answer. Shaking his head, Maan grabbed another chair and placed it infront of the one she was seated in.
Geet, how could you do this to yourself.? I am telling you this the one last time, when you feel I am being unreasonably angry, you have to just say it on my face. I know I have some anger issue, I get annoyed too easily but when I am being unreasonable, you need to say it to me than silently taking it in. I have given that right to all my close ones, you are one of them, so next time please don't put up with my anger and let me do this to you. He said pointing towards her wrapped up self.
But.. Maan.. She intervened and before she could continue, he cut her off.
No buts or ifs here Geet, I don't want you to be at the receiving end of my anger always. He said and got upto to leave, when she held his hand stopping him from going.
Are you still angry with me? She asked innocently.
I am not angry now, but I was very angry. Can you imagine what could have happened.? How did you just jump into the water so carelessly knowing you don't know how to swim. I was just caught by the wave and I was coming out all fine until I saw you jump into the water. What if I hadn't come to pull you out at the right time. ? He scolded her calmly trying not to be too harsh on her. Geet nodded, accepting her mistake.
I am sorry for putting you through that Maan. But I got scared, when you came up and were pulled back in, i got really scared, I wanted to save you and none of it made sense to me, so I blindly jumped without thinking. I promise I won't do anything like it again. Maan smiled hearing her offered his hand for her to take it.
First of all, you aren't getting a chance to do that again.!
Secondly, Geet, I know swimming, I can get my self out of such stations but you coming after me was not a good idea. It wouldn't take even a minute for you to get pulled in by the current. Lets forget all of it, you need to take some rest, you must be tired. Enough adventure for one day.! You need to give your self some rest , and I need to do the same too. He said taking her hand and waking her towards the bed. Laying her on it, he moved towards the couch and settled himself on the it, closing his eyes out of the exhaustive morning. Geet closely admired his sleeping form for a while, considering herself lucky to have Maan in her life. Something in her changed today, which was hopefully for good. A while later, her eyes lids gave away as she drifted to a peaceful sleep.
***********
Maan, why is everyone staring at me .? Geet asked out of the blue as she walked along the roads of Paris with Maan beside her. After landing in Paris, today was the day they walked out on the streets instead of using the car on Geet's insistence. As she looked around she noticed people looking at her weirdly and some giggled giving her amused looks.
Who is staring at you.? He asked looking around at the people. As he looked closely, he realized she was right and people were staring at her. As he looked back at her, he could feel her getting conscious with the amount of eyes on her. He glanced at her from top to bottom checking if all was okay and that's when he realized why everyone was staring at her.
Geet, they are not staring at you, but they are looking at your saree. They don't know about Indian wear so this is fascinating and new for them. So relax, they aren't doing anything bad. Maan tried to cheer her up , as she simply kept looking down in embarrassment.
I don't want to wear a saree anymore then, if I wear it people will stare at me everywhere I go. She cribbed to Maan, walking back towards the resort. Maan clamped his hand on his forehead in defeat, she can be such a kid at times, he sighed inwardly and dare not say it out fearing how she might react to it.
Geet, listen to me. You don't need to stop going out because of your saree nor you need to be so upset about it. Lets do one thing, lets go back to the resort , they have a dress store in there, not just some, but lots of stores in it. You can pick what ever you wish. Okay.? He asked trying to convince her before her kiddish tantrums come along.
You will also help me in choose right.? She questioned him suddenly, shocking him with her question.
Me? And help you.? But why me.?
You know more about these dresses than I do. All the people in your office wear such dresses, even in your parties and all people wear western clothes. So why can't you help me.? She continued while Maan shook his head unable to grab it all cursing himself for even giving her the idea and walked off towards the resort with Geet following him slowly.
************
Geet, you said I have to choose right.? So now let me choose and don't irritate me more or we will simply leave from here.! He threatened her getting frustrated with her constant rejections on his choices. She insisted on him help her choosing while on the same hand would reject his choices, irritating Maan to the core.
Fine, you choose.! She glared at him and sat quietly while he looked at all the dresses which they took out. Thinking for a few minutes he finally picked out a decent dress for her which she would be able to carry of well. Her capacity of carrying off dresses well was something he already witnessed , yet he wanted her look to be decent yet perfect.
Here, try these on. It's a simple jeans and top. It's the best to start with. Hope you are okay with it.? He said handing her the dress . Geet smiled and took the dresses from his hands and nodded proceeding towards the trial room. Maan stood there counting minutes as he waited for her to come out, but there was no sign of her yet.
Geet, are you okay.? He asked concerned and just as here as about to ask her again, he heard the door of the trial room opening. His gaze shifted towards the door as he saw her emerging out of the room. His eyes were glued to the one place as he saw her emerging out of the trial room, looking as stunning as he could hardly imagine. Anyone would refuse to believe she was the same innocent Geet who was now magically transformed into someone opposite. A smile played along his lips as she approached him with baby steps with her eyes lowered looking down out of innocence.
How is it.? She asked him meekly as she came to a stop, standing in front of him. She waited for his reply, yet she received none. She looked up quickly to find him gaping at her with a lost look. Maan gaped at the transformed Geet in front of him. The dress was a perfect fit for her, enhancing her already perfect figure even more. Sexy was the word running in his mind, seeing the tight fitted jeans running smoothly along her slender legs. The top he chose was a masterpiece too, it was meant to be worn by her, fitting her perfectly at the right places. He was too lost in the charming Geet who faced him, not replying to anything that was being thrown at him. Geet who was waiting for his reply caught his gaze fixed in her, the intensity with which he watched her from top to bottom evoked an involuntary blush that stealthily crept up her cheeks. Though he didn't utter a word praising her, yet his eyes already said it all.
Maan.?? How is it.? She asked again, confirming if whatever she read in his eyes was true. She touched him slightly to get him to respond.
Perfect was the word that escaped his lips in the same trance. As the touch was felt by his senses, he snapped out of it astonished at what he was doing and quickly looked away. Maan waited while Geet chose some more clothes getting restless remembering his own behaviour.
It was around 2 AM Maan lay awake staring at the ceiling. As the movements flashed Infront of his eyes, he was clueless about what was happening to him. For the first time ever since Geet came into his life, he was lost in her forgetting himself and his surroundings. He turned to see a peacefully sleeping Geet with a smile on her face. He debated with himself about what was the thing that had changed between them. Maan relived back the to day they got married. It suddenly hit him hard that a lot had changed, he became much more protective and softer towards her without realizing it. Her smile would give him the unknown satisfaction, her tears and pain would make him feel guilty and restless. The most important thing that had changed was , him being lost in her. The fact that he had changed was eating him up, he couldn't and shouldn't. Yet none of it was in his hands anymore, it was beyond his control. The truth that Geet was changing him was another unacceptable fact, which fate had already written for him yet he somehow found excuses to deny but would only end up contradicting himself . Soon sleep took over his over worked form and mind, giving both the much needed break. Had fate really played it's game.?
