PART 19

Raj's residence:

Raj eyed Divya when she came to sit beside him and found her face rigid and expressionless. She appeared quite composed compared to how distraught she looked the previous night. He wondered what was going through her mind and hoped against hope that she would at least despise him; because he could not take indifference from her. He turned around to fill her forehead with vermillion when the priest prompted him to do it. He took the moment to hold her chin and lift her head, so that he could meet her eyes.

Divya was still in a confused state; she did not understand what she felt for Raj anymore. She still loved him, though she denied it when she yelled at him in anger last night. And the anger sprung from the knowledge that he did not think twice to hurt her. She felt a multitude of emotions right now, where Raj was concerned.

She wondered why Raj did not come after her last night and break things off; though she subconsciously prayed that he did not. She knew that she could not live without him, but she could not ignore how hurt and angry she was right now either. She wondered if she would be able to overcome the fact that he squashed all the love and respect she held for him. She was brought out of her thoughts when Raj held her chin and nudged it. She looked up to see Raj looking at her intently.

This was the moment they were waiting for 12 years and it was finally happening. But why was it that she was not happy? Why could she just not forget what happened yesterday and move on? Why was it that her heart was just not ready to let his betrayal of her love and trust go? She was just so heart broken right now. All she wanted to do was just lock herself in a room and cry her heart out; but she could not do that and she had to make everyone believe that she was happy; especially Sarita. She already got a hint that there was something wrong between her and Raj. She could do this, right? She is after all an actress and she had to put up a good performance. So thinking, she smiled at Raj and lowered her eyes immediately because she knew that Raj would definitely read her eyes.

Raj was stunned to see her smile when her eyes said otherwise. It took him only a second to see the sadness in her eyes and he hated that he was the reason for it. She might be a good actress but she can never fool him. He recovered from his shock and smiled back at her to keep up appearances. He filled her forehead with vermillion and made a silent promise to himself that he would bring back happiness in her life, even if he had to give up his. She closed her eyes when he did that; and thought that she would always love him, even if they were at odds with each other. Only this time, the odds were so great that she wondered if they would be able to overcome it.

The rest of the rituals of mangalsutra and seven circumambulations took place and not one guest suspected what was going through the heads of the newlyweds. Both Raj and Divya proved to be great actors. Everyone believed the act they put up, but for Sarita who could see through their faade.

Sarita was observing RajJi and Divya closely throughout the wedding and now during the post- wedding celebrations. Everyone were busy singing, dancing and playing games, but for them. They were looking lost and pre-occupied with some thought. She wondered what went wrong between them; they were forcing the smile that they were sporting, she detected.

She was feeling sad that she was not able to help them anymore. After the harsh words RaJi used, she could not even think about lending support to them; not at the stake of coming between them. At the same time, she could not help but think about their problem if there was any, either. She was so worried for them that it reflected on her features. She had a sad smile etched on her face due to her helpless state.

Vikrant was in turn observing his wife without her knowledge; he saw unhappiness written all over her face. She was looking at every couple dancing, but was lost in her own world. He wondered if she was thinking about the happy times she spent with her ex-husband.

Vikrant got distracted by the huge cheering that went out for the newlyweds; they were encouraging them to dance. He turned back to see that his wife sat up straight to see them take the dance floor.

Raj and Divya reluctantly made a move to dance; Raj placed one hand on her delicate waist and brought her close to him, while using the other to hold her palm in his. He remembered how much Divya loved to dance; and thought that this might cheer her spirits, which were down right now. They swayed to the soft music that was playing, each reminiscing their college days when they would groove to the music for hours together.

Abhiman ran towards his parents and hugged them both. He tugged on his mother's hand and asked, "Mama, please can you dance with me?"

Sarita looked down at Abhi and assured, "Sure I will my cutie pie" and kissed him on his cheek. He swiped at his cheek and whispered, "Mama, please do not kiss me in public!" and pouted. She laughed throatily and that was music to Vikrant's ears. He enjoyed seeing the mother-son duo conversing and thanked Abhi mentally for the distraction he created.

He heard Sarita promise Abhi about not kissing in public. His son dragged his mother onto the dance floor in excitement and in the process Sarita stepped on her sari and lost her balance. She was about to fall when someone grasped her waist to stop it from happening.

She looked up to see who it was and was surprised to see RajJi holding her. She was disappointed because her foolish heart wanted it to be HER Akduji. She was thankful nevertheless and smiled hesitantly at Raj and Divya; and thanked him by nodding her head.

She turned around to see Abhi holding his ears and apologizing to her, "Sorry Mama!" Sarita immediately hugged him tight and said, "It is okay, my handsome boy! Now you promised me a dance. So shall we?" She asked.

Abhi happily took his mother's hand in his and they both started to dance to the music.

A strange feeling of jealousy set in when Vikrant saw Raj hold his wife in his arms. His fingers automatically clenched tight into a fist and he was trying his best to control his emotions. He observed his wife looking longingly at Raj but was once again distracted by Abhi. He did not know whether he had to be thankful or angry about that. He continued studying his wife closely; and noticed that she looked back to watch the newlyweds. And suddenly Abhi ran away leaving his mother alone on the dance floor.

Sarita heard Abhi's non-stop chattering and looked back to see something that Abhi pointed out, unaware that Raj and Divya were dancing behind her; and also oblivious to the fact that her husband was drawing the wrong meaning out of the whole scenario. She turned around to find Abhi missing and felt very conscious to be alone out there; and was about to leave when a pair of hands wrapped themselves around her bare waist and tugged her back. She turned around to observe that it was Mr.Suryavanshi who held her in his arms. Sheclosed her eyes, smiled inwardly with joy and leaned back to be completely plastered to him, her back to his chest.

Vikrant did not know what drove him to the dance floor. He saw her about to leave the place and found himself walking hurriedly towards her to stop it; and his hands just found her waist on its own. He did not know what made him touch her so intimately, that too in public; was it because he was jealous of what happened earlier and wanted to show the world that she belonged to him? He shook himself out of these thoughts and wondered why he was giving justification to himself for his actions.

He felt relieved when she leaned into him and this gave him the opportunity to turn his head into the crook of her neck and breathe her fragrance in. He closed his eyes as he breathed in deeply and tightened his hold on her waist, making sure that he did not graze her wound. She brought her hands and placed them on his.

Without their knowledge they started swaying to the slow beat of the music, each of the lost in the ecstasy of love they felt for each other. They grooved to the music for what felt like a long time and were brought out of the blissful world when they heard hoots coming from the young crowd present there.

They opened their eyes and were baffled to realize that they were the only couple on the dance floor and were even more embarrassed to find Abhi recording their entire dance...

There's no doubt the story is interesting wether RaVya's part or ViSa's but I'm seriously dreading next chapter. Knowing Vikrant is an impulsive guy I hope he doesn't humiliate Sarita in front of everyone. Their talk should happen at Suryavanshi's house and before Vik jumps to any conclusion he should let Sarita speak.
