"Ayaan please rukho! Ayaan please! Mujhe apne saath leke jao! Please! Ayaan! Ayaan, come back! Please! Ayaan!" Humeira's pleas continued, as she helplessly watched him walk out of the Siddiqui Mansion. Seeing him take the first step to the other side of the double doors, that was the last straw. That did it. She shoved Razia away, and bolted in his direction, running for her life.
He couldn't leave her. He couldn't. Not after everything. Not after he'd promised to marry her, to be with her, to be her safe haven, to be her husband, her partner and her soulmate. How could he leave her? Why was he leaving her? Her? She did nothing wrong. She stood by him. She was there for him, but he chose not to let her in. Instead he was pushing her out. Why?
"Ayaan! Rukho! Ayaan please!" she continued, desperately, as she followed him outside to his bike. She finally caught up to him and turned him around, throwing her self into his arms. But he didn't budge. Instead she could hear his heart pounding, his nose sniffling, and his breathing hitching. He was hurting just as much as she was. Then why do this? Why, Ayaan, why?
"Aapne humse vaada kya tha. Aapne humein nikaah ka vaada diya hai. Aap humein chor nahin sakte. Dorbara nahin. Please, Ayaan, mujhe dobara chorkar mat jaiye. Please," she begged, breaking down onto his chest, her tears dampening his leather jacket. She tugged at the collar of his jacket, pulling him closer and closer to her, so he wouldn't leave her.
He felt his eyes brim with more tears, threatening to spill out, as he put his hands on her shoulders, gently pushing her away from him, so he could look her in the eye. Feeling him touch her, she loosened her grip on his jacket and pulled back a little, taking one step away from him. She looked down, her tears refusing to stop. He cupped her face with both his hands, gently tipping it up, so she looked into his eyes.
"Humeira, mein, mein aapko chorna nahin chaha tha hoon," he cried, his voice cracking. Her eyes welled up again. "Nahin chorna chaha tha hoon. Lekin, Asad Bhaijaan theek khete the. Abbu," he paused, the rage in his eyes growing. "Mr. Rashid Ahmed Khan ne bohot hi galatiya ki hai. Bohot. Ek pal mein, uno ne mujhe paraya bana diya. Ek pal mein. Une," his voice cracked again, his eyes moistening for the umpteenth time, "apne bachon ki, meri, Asad Bhaijaan ki, bilkul parwa nahin. Bilkul bhi nahin."
He lowered his head, his forehead landing on Humeira's shoulder, crying into it. His whole body being wracked by sobs. Humeira wrapped her arms around him, rubbing circles on his back, soothingly.
"Ayaan, mein, mein nahin jaanti, kya sahi hai, kya galat. Lekin mein itna jaanti hoon. Mein, mein aapke bina nahin reh paoongi," she sobbed, as he wrapped his arms around her slender waist for support. "Agar, agar aapko lagta hai, ki aap, aap aapne abbu ke saath ek chaat ke niche, nahin reh paenge, to yahi sahi. Lekin, khuda ke liye, mujhe aapne saath lekar chaliye. Please," she cried, breaking down along with him.
They stood there, in each others arms, drawing strength from each other. He blinked through his tears, and realized, he was wrong about one thing. He shouldn't have to leave his mohabbat. Not for that man. He would be abandoning her, just like he did with Dilshad Bi, 18 years ago. No. He wouldn't do that. He couldn't. He pulled back from Humeira, and cupped her face again, a little more gently.
"Humeira, mujhe, mujhe mauf kije. Mujhe mauf kije Humeira. Mein, mein aapko chorne wala tha, lekin, yeh galat hai. Mein aapse, ek vaada kiya tha. Aur mein usse nibha ke rahoonga," he said, as she smiled at him, wiping his tears with her dainty hands.
"Aap, kya aap mere saath chalengi?"
The question lingered in the air, like the echo of a gong. He didn't want to ask her to leave. She had a family, and friends. She had a life here. And he would be disrupting that. But he couldn't live without her, and he knew now, she couldn't live without him either. They were one. They were a single soul in two bodies. And he shouldn't, wouldn't allow his new found hatred for the man he knew as his father, to take away the last ray of hope he had in his life.
"Ayaan, aap hi meri zindagi hai. Agar aap gaye, to mein mar-" she started, but was cut off by his hand landing on her lips. She gently placed her hand on his, and lowered them both from her mouth. "Mein aapke saath, tah humar, rahoongi. Aapke har kadam par, apna saath doongi. Yeh mera vaada hai," she said, without the slightest hesitation.
Ayaan smiled, despite his pain, and kissed her forehead, enveloping her in his arms, vowing to never let go. And Humeira vowed the same. She would be there for him. Even if that meant, being away from her family. Even if that meant, cutting ties with them. She would trust their love for each other. She would trust his judgement. She would trust him, for the rest of her life.
