LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan has said that Bob Woolmer died just because of the team's loss against Ireland.

"Whatever the general public in Pakistan says, the fact is that Bob was not responsible for Pakistan's defeat or any other loss that the team has faced because the coach's job is simply to teach and instruct. The performance of the Pakistan team is a sheer responsibility of the captain and no one but Inzamam is responsible for the exit of the team from the world Cup. And the poor performance of the Pakistani team is the only cause of Woolmer's cardiac arrest."

Expressing his deep regrets, former cricket captain Asif Iqbal has said that Woolmer was a coach with a conscience and this great aspect of his character became the reason for his death.

"Bob had been under intense criticism ever since he had been appointed as the national coach, especially by the former coaches of the team. But the loss to Ireland was too extreme a shock for him to recover from."

According to former opener Saeed Anwar, Woolmer was a very sensitive person and his team's loss was a cause for his death.

"It is very sad that everyone found his unconscious body in the hotel room when it was too late."

On Sunday, a huge crowd had gathered in front of Pakistani captain Inzamamul Haque's Multan residence and chanted slogans of "Death to Woolmer, Death to Inzamam".

They also carried placards displaying the same chant.

President General Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz also expressed grief over the death.

They bring in Imran Nazir for an important event like the World Cup when he has been out of international cricket for the last three years," he said. "I couldn't understand his selection when Pakistan had talented players like Salman Butt and Yasir Hameed available to them.

"We need to run the Cricket Board more democratically. Why should the President appoint the Chairman directly? We need to have a captain and coach who have vision and who can utilise the available talent properly".

seriously yesterday's match just gave a sudden death to every pak fan out there!!! i mean it was seriously a disaster for everyone, but i cud never imagine anyone losing their life lyk this, and that too, pak's coach!!!!! ...
and i must say that imran shudnt blame everything on the pak team, thats merely childish!!!!! he was one of the many ex pak cricketers who never wanted bob as the coach... he always criticized the coach for not doing anything at all, along wid other cricket greats!... for sure, bob had pressure on himself cuz of the team's performacne but also from the criticism he wud have to face all over again from everyone in pakistan, especially such pak cricketers!

perhaps imran khan doesn't wanna come in the allegation circle of his death thts why he has passed his comment..... i think instead of blaming the team he shud have said tht bob woolmer shoud be awarded for his serving to pak cricketing....

Wotever imran said was in a kind of right coz...he has done so much for the pak team and at the en of the...wot did pk team gave in return "sidden death". i cnt also balme pk team alone for dis.. im sure dey all must be upset tooo coz dey such a genuine, caring andloavbel coach....which u wnt gna find ...anymore in 2dai's world.. we have lost the precious person..

awwwwwwwwwww dant nt very nice of u.... n i totlai disagree wiv u............To me Bob wolmer was da best couch...ever... i dnt think.....any1 else..is up to his standard....i partially blame da team....bcoz...as imran khan said couch 's job is onli to instrtuct...da rest depneds of da players....Bob WOLMER..did everyfing 4 pk team inorder to make a betta team....so der'z onli 1 person to blame....

as cricket is a game..where team contribution iz imp....1 person dnt make da difference all have to contribute n play lyk a team.

Thats stupid. Now why do we leave them alone(pak team) or we want every one of them to be dead? Thats all because of the stupid pressure, the pressure of the stupid public who cant take defeat. And want sudden changes.
