Yaa it was the same. Sooraj's profession and educational qualification were the biggest deterrant in getting him a bride.

As alexxa said some kind of a reference was made in earlier epi. Vik was a business man and that gave him better social status and because of that alliance might have come for him and Sooraj might have asked Bhabo to marry vikram as it was not good to sacrifice his brother's life for him.
