Well in HP7 JKR said that the golden snitch can respond to touch...
"the first touch"

well harry touched the snitch with his lips which made it reveal the secret..

well my question is in HP1 when oliver wood was teaching harry how to play quidditch.. he touched the snitch there as well...

that to for the FIRST TIME.. with his own hands...
technically it was his first touch...

then why didn't the snitch open up when harry touched it with his hands...

PS. sorry for irritating you guys 😕😆

I think they use a new snitch at each match.. The snitch he touched at the practice was an old one 🤔

Maybe the one they practiced with was different than the one they played with.

well Snitch do have memory dear and if something can be stored inside .. it can be instructed to .. "who" actually can open it.. may be..
you know all this first touch stuff is kinda password to the vault inside right??

May be Harry was MEANT to be the one who opened it .. albeit at right time

I remember reading in the books [can't place who said it though!] that no one touches the snitch, until it is released for the match, cause even the makers use gloves for it! So my interpretation would be that a new snitch is released before every match, and then that snitch is used in practices?

We're forgetting the reason behind snitches having flesh memories; it is to ensure that in case of a scuffle during the match, the flesh memories can be recalled to find out which seeker caught the snitch first. So if the snitch Harry caught in his first match was the same snitch he used in the practice with Oliver [and all other practices with the team], the entire concept of flesh memories is pointless!

@ Bold: I think Oliver said it. But yeah my guess is that they have a snitch that is used only for practices because obviously they need something to practice with. And maybe that one is made without any flesh memory so that everyone can practice with it.

^^ I think it was Hermione in DH who mentioned it the first, and then Ron who backed up her claim. They explained it to Harry after Scrimegeour's visit? Correct me if I am wrong!

That could be an option, OR they could just use the snitch they won in a match for the practices. I mean, what use is a snitch once it has been caught by that first person?

I don't know why I still think it was mentioned by Oliver...but maybe that was something else. 🤔

Yeah true.
