Hema Malini and Dharmendra to work together after 24 years in Pritish Nandy's next, Hum Aise Hi

Dream couple: Dharmendra with Hema Malini

In what promises to be a veritable treat for any film aficionado, Dharmendra and Hema Malini will be seen working together in a film after nearly 24 years. The former superstars will act in Pritish Nandy's forthcoming venture Hum Aise Hi. The film will be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar and it's going to be a comedy.

Hema and Dharmendra can be easily counted amongst the most romantic couples from Bollywood and have worked in 26 films together. They worked together last in Kamal Amrohi's Razia Sultan in 1983. Hema was expecting Esha at that time, and after she gave birth to their first child, Dharmendra decided not to work with Hema.

However, some time back, in an earlier interview Hema had said, "I want to work with Dharamji again. He is a very good actor. I don't know why he is not working with me. I don't want to force him, he will work with me whenever he feels like."

Our source says, "We narrated the script to Hemaji first for her approval, and when she agreed to work in the project, Mahesh went to meet Dharamji. He liked the role, but when he heard that Hemaji would play the role of his wife, he was slightly hesitant about accepting the offer. But Mahesh convinced Dharamji, and in all probability we'll get to see Hemaji and Dharamji together again." Incidentally, Basu Chatterji's Dillagi has been the only comedy film in which the two have worked together.

When contacted, Rongita Nandy said, "It's true that we have signed Hemaji for Mahesh Manjrekar's film. It's a role tailor-made for Hemaji. It will be completely different from what she has been doing in the recent past. Mahesh has already spoken to Bipasha, and she will also be in the film." When asked about Dharmendra, she refused to divulge any details. "We are going to finalise the cast soon and will make an announcement. But, yes, it's going to be an interesting cast for sure," she says.

As soon as Dharmendra signs on the dotted line, PNC will launch the film. Its story revolves around a middle class Maharastrian mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Our source reveals, "Mahesh is planning to sign John Abraham and Bipasha Basu for the film."

He is probably reluctant to work with Hema, because he is still married to his first wife. They are a weird family, how does a guy stay married to two women. I bet there are many cat fights. 😆

i had herd that he legally married hema after he divorced his first wife and dat he is living with hema in a house close by to his sons' houses...

plus dat they are very close as a family... i remember hema saying in a interview that she is the same kind of mother to the sons as she is to esha and ahana....😛

WOW! Very Nice. I would love to see them together again. We I was 10 years old, I used to compare my mom and dad to Hema and Dharm. I just love them together. 😳

He's still married to his first wife? Is it just me or are the yesteryears' actors and actresses relationships more screwed up than todays?

Dharmendra is still legally married to his first wife, Prakash and lives with her. Hema lives in a different house nearby and never have entered the other house. It is a complicated relationship and that is why Hema says in her autobiography that she is lonely. Whenever she had beautiful moments to share, there was no one. Let that be a lesson to all homewreckers. They never make public appearances together because his "actual" family will get affected.

When Sridevi was going to get married to Boney Kapoor, Hema advised her to ask him to divorce his first wife otherwise she too would suffer like her. Boney was not ready but Sridevi was adament. That is the reason Boney Kapoor divorced his first wife Mona and got married to Sridevi.
