Hello ppl... Frankly I have stopped watching the show, just read thru the WUs here. However, want to state a few things.. Though this whole thing is just a serial and seems overly dramatic, these kind of situations do happen. Let me tell you, I am also so against all this and when I was younger in my 20s I also had revolutionary thoughts of what non sense and how can you tolerate such rotten behavior and stuff. But trust me, in real life, when such a situation falls upon u, u get really scared, u dont know what to do and u tend to go by the norms of the society because u are worried about ur image and ur family's image. Try to get the perspective that Gul is trying to give. If you remember, in one of the interviews about QH, Gul had mentioned she is very much like Zoya and she has seen situations in life in her family etc. Keeping modernity aside, you have to go by the society you live in. So guys, even though we all know it is wrong, these things sometimes tend to happen.
These do happen, and I am not a hotblooded teenager who has not seen life, and such things happening. All I am saying is that if a woman is calling her show progressive, and selling it as something that will break misconceptions people have about a religion, she better show something in that direction except showing the main lead wear jeans - which is a very ornamental symbol of being modern. If Zoya is really modern, show her working. Agreed Nikhat is devastated , or Humeira was, but show someone - someone in their family asking them to stand on their feet. Dont let everyone around you behave that you wont get anything better than an old (excuse my language, but I rather not write the adjective I want to here) buffalo for your mother in law. I am all for drama, realism, and a show being a reflection of the society - but hey if you are going to show over the top drama (like marriage by accident), portrayal of a fake Suhag Rat... etc, (which never happen in real life) then might as well show something positive that does not happen in real life.
Let me quote one statement by SRK. Once someone asked him why is Bollywood so behind Hollywood in terms of its stories... Do you really think dancing around trees sells? You know what he said? He said in India 40% people live below poverty line - and 80% marry as per their parents wish (back then). So for them, fantasy is not an alien attacking their country, or they developing some extra ordinary vaccine, for them fantasy is falling in love and marrying that love. It is a dream, for many Indians, and they all want to see this dream and live it.
So, there, fairy tales dont happen in real life, but we buy them, because we want that type of a romance to exist for us. Similarly, society may be backward - but if Gul (or other producers) are making mokery of marriage, divorces, showing male leads with two wives etc., or glorifying such behavior when they are forgiven by all and sundry - you are in no way breaking misconceptions people have about your country.
I take pride in India's culture. I loved when Asad said that Tehzeeb humara gehna hai. It indeed is. I dont believe in doing a fake show of modernity - but over time, I have developed an identity that is rooted in my culture and respects my parents/elders and at the same time, with the education that I have been provided, given me wings of expression and logic. I know one has to bow down sometimes to circumstance, but where in any of these situations has Gul shown a progressive woman? To some extent it is Dilshaad , and it was Zoya in the first few episodes. But what now????
The face of India is changing. But sadly we want to talk about how a guy should not mistake a girl who wears jeans to be "Free" and think that we have a social message, but then we show such severe objectification of women, and are okay with it. As a woman I hate Rajveer and Vikram with the same anger today as I hate Ayaan. I know where he comes from, but if a guy asked for me in trade like that, he is no different than the Yudhishtir who sold me years ago to Duryodhan. I was objectified centuries ago - and you are saying I will objectified now? Sorry Gul Mam, I am a woman, and I refuse to insult myself any further by watching it one more time.
