Though I do sympathize with these so-called outsiders who get a raw deal as compared to Industry kids...in the end, its their choice too! No one is keeping a gun on their head and asking them to wh**e around...(pardon my language!)
These youngsters decided to sleep around to better their prospect...for them professional success is much more important than their own dignity and self-respect! Its a choice they are making on their own, albeit out of certain circumstances!
But unlike genuine victims of sexual exploitation, these guys are not forced to compromise on their dignity...more like a business deal!
I don't think every actor sleeps around for roles...and even if they do, I don't think they are 'forced' to do it...they do it out of their own free will (unhappily maybe...but still its their own choice!)
Kind of a "Sophie's 'Choice'" surely. But then I've never bought into calling anything that someone does out of a feeling of desperation a "choice" and absolving assholes from responsibility for THEIR willful and autonomous actions which were FAR MORE of a choice---since I'm assuming rent was not due, mom did not need medicine, or a whole host of other things that most "regular" people have hanging over their heads was not at stake.
Lots of people want a job, many can't think of any other one they are suited for that will make them money or give them the kind of lifestyle they want than acting. Some people are just compelled to act. It's their calling, and most of us will do lots of things to get a job we feel can keep us fed and off the streets. We may regret it afterwards and have bad dreams for quite a while but in the need of the moment we just want that JOB and try to suck down our distaste for the lies or compromises.
Still, it's a damned shame that anyone even PUTS people in that position for no reason at all beyond selfishness or some sick ass need to feel they can exert power over some poor bas***d who is 9 out of 10 times at an extreme social and financial disadvantage.
Forcing someone into a so-called-choice by holding a club over their future career prospects if they don't suck your junk puts the onus on YOU, and I don't consider it their "real" choice, more like a grim acceptance of the seeming inevitable in order to even have a hope at the life and career they want.
The power dynamic just seems way too skewed. Like a woman lying back and taking it in order to feed her family. Sure it's prostitution and a business since money changes hands, and yeah, it's her "choice" but since choice implies options what's the OTHER option? Is it viable?
Unless you willingly go into a job as a dominatrix or sexual role-play job of some sort, sex is NOT the same as acting and this kind of behavior cheapens the industry and probably keeps lots of potentially monumentally talented people out of the business. As long as Bollywood quality revolves around who is the best/easiest lay they can kiss their dreams of success in the world market goodbye.
