Why are TRPs so important?

A little late in the day and perhaps repetitive, but I just wonder ... why are TRPs/TVR ratings so important? Chhanchhan has a lot of viewers outside India, and I don't speak just for myself. I know so many of my friends/family who watch it in the USA, me included, but our views don't count. I just think that's very unfair. Most other shows have only a handful number of international viewers, but Chhanchhan has a whole bunch of us. Shouldn't we be counted too? Ofcourse counting us as TRP audience won't be possible, but I just think that channels and/or the PH should conduct some research to study the international popularity of a particular show. Sometimes the TRP of a show may not be high but it could be very popular online, and in those cases, it is just not fair on the cast and crew that their show is being shut.

Trp's are important because based on the trp's of a show and overall of a channel , advertisers decide how much to spend in adv in which channel . This is how channels earn revenue .

TRPs are important for the channel purely for business point of view...but as a viewer I still don't understand its parameters and thus its an absurd system as they don't consider the online viewers as well...

Channels need them for Advertising revenue
Advertisers don't want to advertise their product during the shows that have low numbers.

Despite it being faulty it's right now the only measure for channels to make business decisions and the equalizer is that all shows are subject to this faulty mechanism.

Show making is out n out 'Business' n makers/Channel are pure businessman. TRP/TVT reflects viewers like or dislike.Obviously,sponsors wants better return for their investment so,they want to spend their money in High rated show.

International viewers is not imp here because, they are not directly involved in revenue generate.[for,Indian makers]

Only one question to ask.

ya the other shows dont ant to mention the name which are not even loved and recognised by online viewers are leading in trps from last 4-5 years and have zero element that can be called as a planned storyline.still they manage to grab huge trps😕

i didn't even know what is trp before ipk 😆
so definately i dont choose to watch shows keeping in mind that which one grabs more trp
