Confessions
The words hesitated at her lips before they turned back, only to be swallowed by her nervousness. All she was left with then was a silent stare, hoping that her eyes could convey some of what her lips refused to utter. The air closed around her, and by the time she remembered to breathe, she realized that she was alone. Alone with her thoughts and words unsaid.
Humeira sighed. This was harder than she'd imagined it to be. Who would have thought that just a few simple words would be the hardest to voice out. It didn't help matters that the person she'd been trying to talk to managed to usher away before she found her courage to speak. Unfortunately that was her fault. She'd been the one to push him away, so absorbed she'd become in her own pain, refusing to see or hear anything.
She tried again, going for her fourth attempt since the third time hadn't really worked like a charm. She caught Ayaan just as he had come back home. The fact that she'd spent the past two or three hours watching the door was irrelevant. She stepped into his path before he could stalk away to the safety of his room.
He looked at her surprised, staring at her for a moment, before attempting to side step her. Humeira moved into his path again trying to block him. Again he tried to move to her other side and Humeira blocked him again.
Ayaan paused for a minute, his hands raised. He seemed to reach out for her shoulders to keep her still but then hesitated, his hands remaining in the air.
"I...uh...I'm not doing this..." He gestured with his hands. "...on purpose."
Humeira tried to explain but Ayaan interrupted her.
"I'm leaving." Ayaan managed to move past her in her distraction.
Humeira sighed. Now she knew what it felt like when you didn't give the other person a chance to explain. She was such a fool.
She turned around and made a quick grab for Ayaan, her hands tangling themselves into the fabric of his white tunic. She held on tight, trying to pull him back to her.
Ayaan felt the edge of his tunic tug around his neck, stopping him in his tracks.
"I know. I am." He heard Humeira's voice over his shoulders.
He tried to turn around but Humeira seem to hold on to him, her hands tightening around the white fabric.
"I don't understand." He stated not quite sure what she was getting at. He didn't want to upset her again. She had scared him when she'd tried to take her life, and he didn't want to endanger her in any way.
"May I just borrow your back for a while?" Humeira asked.
"Uh...sure?"
He felt Humeira's head rest against his back, her hands still holding onto his tunic.
"Hurting the one I love, causing you to worry.
The pain and trouble I've given, for that I'm truly sorry.
I promise to hold on forever, so please don't leave me."
Humeira's arms went around Ayaan's waist as she uttered those last words. He swallowed, for a second not sure if what he'd heard had been true or not. Was this the same Humeira who had just yesterday, so vehemently, pushed him away?
He slowly moved his arms upward, afraid that her hands would disappear as soon as he touched them. They didn't though. They remained steady under his, as he caught her fingers with his own and pulled her arms away from around him.
Worry rose in Humeira's heart as Ayaan pulled her hands away from him. She had failed to convince him that she truly was sorry. He turned around to look at her and she tried to gauge his expression. She saw him shake his head slightly before her vision blurred. She pulled her hands towards her ears at a last ditch attempt of an apology but Ayaan didn't let her. He tugged in the opposite direction, pulling her towards him before embracing her.
"Silly Humeira." Ayaan whispered by her ears. Relief flooded through her as Humeira returned his embrace letting her tears fall. "How could I ever leave the one I love?"
A/N: First of all apology at the failed attempt at poetry. It's not my strong suit.
Pari I'm still working on the OS with a holiday or wedding theme. I haven't forgotten you. Thanks to all for their comments.
