Thanga Meenkal Movie Reviews & Discussions
Thanga Meenkal is a film which cannot be described in a single line, or even a paragraph for that matter. At a time when there were a lot of insecurities among people on where Tamil cinema is heading, and at a time where we've all had an overdose of comedy, this film releases and shows you what Tamil cinema is really made of.
Thanga Meenkal is a genuine film which narrates the relationship between a father and a daughter in such a heartwarming manner. Only a person with beautiful thoughts can work on such a true story put across in the most honest way, so hats off to director Ram for doing that.
This film stars Baby Sadhana playing the role of Chellamma, Director Ram playing Kalyanasundaram, Chellamma's father, Shelly playing Vadivu, Chellama's Mother, Baby Sanjana playing Nithyashree, Chellamma's friend, Rohini and Ramu playing Chellamma's grandparents.
The cinematography by Arabhindu Saara is lovely; his visuals are so refreshing that you will have this urge to visit these locations at least once in your lifetime. Na Muthukumar's lyrics bring alive Yuvan Shankar Raja's soulful music. Only a filmmaker can help bring another filmmakers vision alive and that is exactly what Gautham Menon has done.
Thanga Meenkal reaches out to people from all walks of life largely because of equal and well balanced contributions from the entire cast and crew. It is so well executed because it was a combine and coordinated effort. There are some moments which will leave you feeling really touched like the scene where the teacher asks the children "Is Rupees 1000 high or is 100 high" for which Chellamma answers "1000 is high for my grandfather while 100 is high for my father" this scenes tells us that we have so much to learn from children today.
It starts with an innocence that a father and his child shares in common and it ends with their innocence being destroyed. One line that will leave you with goose bumps reads "Dads who have daughters would only know that kisses are no way connected with lust". At first you start to wonder if certain emotions in the film are exaggerated but when you look back at your father you start to think that these emotions are for real. Director Ram was the best fit for this film because this one was right from his heart; the film feels like an extension of him. Sadhana has done a great job by balancing her emotions and naughtiness.
Thanga Meenkal will definitely be a film that will live on for ages like many other classics from our industry. Overall this story will take you into a world where only two people exist, a father and his daughter. So get lost in this beautiful world which will leave you in tears towards the end. Definitely a must watch!
