Aashiqui 2 is the kind of movie that girls and boys will continue to watch as long as love remains 'the' emotion to experience... and the earth continues to spin on its axis. But till it released, director Mohit Suri was known to make two kinds of films: gritty dramas (Woh Lamhe, Awarapan) and commercial thrillers, filled with action and sex (Zeher, Kalyug, Raaz 2, Murder 2). Over the course of his eight-year career, he's made more of the latter, mainly due to circumstance rather than by choice. But after Aashiqui 2, he's clear he wants to march to the beat of his own drum. "India has finally accepted my voice. I've had hits and flops and will have them in the future too but at the end of it all, you get accepted for your voice," he smiles.

Mohit

Though it's taken him eight films to realise that making love stories may just be his true calling, Mohit insists he isn't a romantic in real life. "Whenever Udita watches Aashiqui 2, she asks me, 'Where's the man who has made this film?' And I keep telling her that our relationship is like a comic book version of Aditya's and Shraddha's relationship in Aashiqui...," he laughs. "I am just lucky she's stuck by me for so long."

Coming back to his work, the industry has truly woken up to Mohit Suri post the success of Aashiqui 2. The director doesn't deny his sense of vindication at this point. "After Awarapan and Woh Lamhe, people saw signs of me being a good director. But those films didn't do well at the box-office, so they felt I was a good director but not a successful one. Then, when success came my way, they thought about working with me but believed I had sold out somewhere because I wasn't the Awarapan director anymore. But with Aashiqui 2, I've gone back to my roots and have been appreciated for it."

Mohit's next project is The Villain with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures but be under no illusions, his loyalties will always lie with the Bhatts. "I feel like a producer with the Bhatts. I'm not just a part of my film with the Bhatts, I'm a part of every film that's made there," he takes a breather. "They've never bound me by a contract and yet they've given me so much. They gave me control and freedom at a time when no one else was willing to put their faith in me. So I will always work with them. It's my home, they're my family. And it'll remain that way."

Recent rumours suggest that post the success of his romantic saga, big guns in the business like Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra are wooing him to make films for their banners. But Mohit is tight-lipped about these developments. "I'm getting offers from everyone. I'm even getting offers from directors who want to turn producers. But all this doesn't matter because I don't want to make biggest budget films, I want to make the best films."

As a matter of fact, Mohit isn't even gung-ho about working with stars. "I feel jealous of people's scripts, not the actors they work with. I am keen on working with the younger guys. I believe I can do more with them. I am more excited about working with a Sidharth (Malhotra) or Varun (Dhawan). They are enthusiastic and willing to learn," he reveals. "It's like none of us have the answers but we're all working hard to get there. There's a certain innocence in the madness. I like that."

That's not all. Mohit would rather make good films than a 100-crore bonanza at the box-office. "I don't care about the 100-crore club, or working with the biggest actors, I just want to keep my passion alive. I don't want to get stuck in the rut of making money. Invariably, after great success comes great failure. I have more chances of failing today than any other filmmaker has. But I'd rather fail on my own terms."

Well, Mohit Suri's mind is a deep spring of dark beauty and inspirations. He is a restless creator, skipping blithely across genres, who will keep surprising us with his work.

I have high expectation from the movie The Villian . Only that movie can save Sid and give him prominent place in BW as my impulse says that HTP might be a washout .
