"ChhanChhan," Manav yelled.
Today was an unfortunate day. Manav was sick from the changing weather. And now, the baby of the house was actually acting like the baby of the house. Being pampered was something Manav loved; especially from his wife. But just sitting in once place and eating khichdi was getting on his nerves. And like a true baby, Manav threw a tantrum.
--
Downstairs, ChhanChhan sighed. This was the millionth time he was calling her. Not even million but trillion. ChhanChhan stopped feeding Puchpuch and left to see what her baby wants.
"Manav, Ab kya hai? Tumhe pata hai ke tum mujhe hazar baar bulla chuke ho? (Now what happened Manav? Do you know that you have called me at least thousand times?) " ChhanChhan said with a teasing look. If there was something she loved, it was pulling Manav's leg.
"Toh main kya karu? Tum log mujhe utne nahi dete aur,(So what should I do? You guys don't let me get up and,)" Manav pulled ChhanChhan closer and placed her palm in his lap while playing with her fingers, "aur tum yahan mere paas bhi nahi rethi (And you don't even stay here with me)" Manav finished off with a pout.
ChhanChhan, lovingly, placed her free palm against her cheek. She still couldn't believe that she found such a wonderful life partner. What would she do without him.
"Manav, I wish I could stay with you. But then who would help in the house?" ChhanChhan softly pacified her baby.
"ChhanChhan Tum Na...Jao Yahan Se. Tum sirf ghar walo ki chinta karo. Tumne toh unse shadi ki hai na. Main toh free deal hoon. Ghar se shadi karo usper ek pati muft. Nayi offer aayi hai marriage ki market mein. (ChhanChhan You are just...Go away from here. You just worry about the people in the house. You have married them. I am just a free deal. Get married to the house and get a husband free. This is a new offer in the market of marriage)" Still clutching her hand in his, he faced his body away from her and crossed his arms with her hand still entrapped.
ChhanChhan didn't know whether she should laugh or pacify Manav. But before she could reply, a knock could be heard on the door.
From behind the door, Uma Ben peeked in.
"ChhanChhan, Manav, Maine disturb toh nahi kiya na beta? (I haven't disturbed you na?)" Uma smiled her illusionary sweet smile.
ChhanChhan quickly stood up, snatching her hand (which Manav very reluctantly let go) straightening her dupatta.
"Nahi Mummyji. Please come inside." ChhanChhan smiled at her mother-in-law; however Manav interrupted in the middle, "Maa why did you come? ChhanChhan Hai Na (ChhanChhan is here)"
Taken aback, Uma stammered out with fake certainty, "Beta, no matter how much a wife tries, she can never take place of a mother. I know you love eating Maggi when you are sick so I brought you some."
Grinning widely, Manav with a childlike excitement said, "Maa you are the best. I wanted Maggi so badly."
ChhanChhan couldn't help but smile amusingly at her Lallu Ram. He was such a child at heart. But when its night time, somehow he didn't seem childlike. Stop ChhanChhan don't think about that with your mother-in-law in the room. With a blush, ChhanChhan pushed her thoughts away.
With a triumph smirk, Uma smugly said, "Aaja mera beta, main kilati hoon tujhe (Come my son, I will feed you)"
However Manav had other plans, "Its okay Maa...ChhanChhan hain na. She will feed me."
With her smile diminishing but still intact, Uma nodded and gave the plate to ChhanChhan. When she reached the door, she looked back at her son...
ChhanChhan was blowing on the hot Maggi while Manav was resting his head on her shoulder.
ChhanChhan Hai Na...
