Happy doing work more than the skinny-minnies: Sonakshi
Sonakshi Sinha More Pics

She maybe getting rave reviews for her moving performance in Vikramaditya Motwane's "Lootera" but Sonakshi Sinha says she was warned by many against doing the period film so early in her career.

Sonakshi started her career with "Dabangg" and went on to star in masala movies "Rowdy Rathore", "Dabangg 2" and "Son Of Sardaar".

The story of unrequited love, set in the era of 1950s, came as a nice challenge for Sonakshi. She plays a pampered but devoted daughter of a Bengali zamindaar who falls in love with a stranger with dubious past.

"After 'Dabangg' people saw me in a particular kind of cinema. I heard comments like 'This is too early in your career', 'You may not be able to pull it off', 'You need to be mature for something like this'.

"I was irritated and decided to prove everyone wrong. I tried doing something experimental and I am happy that I was able to carry it off," Sonakshi told in an interview.

The actress credits Motwane for bringing out the best in her and feels without him it would have been impossible to do the role of Pakhi.

"It is my most challenging role till date. Because it is set in the 1950s, an era I know nothing about. I have just gone by pure instinct and Vikram's direction. He is a tremendous director, I could not have done it without him. I am so glad that the first opportunity where I got to showcase my range as an actor was with Vikram," Sonakshi said.

It is another busy year for Sonakshi. After "Lootera", she is looking forward to three more releases - "Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai Dobara", "Bullet Raja" and "Rambo Rajkumar".

The actress says her mantra is to do work quietly and not make much noise about it. "I believe in doing my work quietly and not make a big hullabaloo about it. That is how I operate. I don't see any other reason to be visible for, I like it when people talk about my work, that is what I am here for."

"There is no point being visible for other things like going for events, parties. I have never spoken about who I am dating, what I am doing behind the scenes. So that is how I want it to be," Sonakshi said.

She insists there is a normal life behind her stardom, which she very much cherishes.
"Coming from a filmy background I have seen everything growing up, but even at that point of time it never really fascinated me. I did not like going to my dad's shoots. We were taught not to get carried away with it from a very young age."

"The upbringing has been very strong, rooted. My mother gave up her career bringing us up and she has played a very important role in keeping us grounded. Even now I don't take my work home, my stardom home. It ends where it is supposed to end. There is a life beyond stardom and it's a very normal life which I cherish. I anyway don't handle attention very well," she added.

There is constant attention on her figure but Sonakshi says it does not bother her anymore. She has decided not to answer questions related to the topic.

"It is a non-issue to me. I am very happy doing work and lot of work... Probably more than the skinny-minnies. I am going to take a stand in my life by not talking about it, stop answering questions so that people stop writing about it."

She's doing very well for herself and I'm happy for her, but these statements are annoying. 😵

Is this a similar topic posted by the other member? Because the title is kind of similar. Sonaski doing well without skin show is I think the title of that topic.

It's a different article. I read the other one and this one..none of the quotes are the same :)

Perhaps it is from one big interview that they split into a few different articles.

she probably shouldn't have said skinny-minnies but I can't blame her she's tired of the media questioning her weight..every girl in this world would get defensive when their weight is being questioned..not just for being overweight but also for being really skinny. Being a girl..and having lots of girl firemds..no matter what shape they are women feel insecure because of the constant pressure to look skinny bit also to look curvy at the same time..confusing i know.
And the members who criticize her weight shouldn't criticize her for taking digs at the skinny girls because you guys criticize her for not being skinny. She's just giving ppl who criticize her weight taste of their own medicine if that even makes any sense.

But when those "skinny-minnie" (Sonam, Deepika) girls gave good performances, they talked about how happy they were and how hard they worked. They didn't feel the need to go on about how other girls in the industry have no work. You can learn a few things from them, Sonakshi.

She was questioned about her weight, hence she made a jibe. Otherwise, she does not bring down other actors from what I notice. Ask Anushka and PC about plastic surgeries, Bebo about intelligence, or Deepika about her skin whitening and they will equally be as defensive.
