Chapter 12: Built up Guilt and Realization

Manvi woke up the next morning to see Virat asleep in his chair. She still had an IV drip running in her arm so she couldn't move much. She smiled at how innocent Virat looked in his sleep. The sun came in the room, hitting the diamond on her finger, making it glisten in the sunlight diverting her attention from Virat to the ring. She looked down and sighed with guilt. As much as she knew there was no arguing with Virat, deep down she still felt guilty for letting him go through with this decision. She sat there thinking about what would happen to him if anything were to happen to her until Virat broke her trance.
Virat: Manvi, kya hua, why are you crying he asked. Manvi wiped her tears with her fingers and looked in the other direction.
Manvi: Virat please, you can still change this decision, please don't do this to yourself she begged. Virat looked at the sindoor still on her forhead and smiled.
Virat: Manvi, do you know how happy I have been since I put the sindoor on you yesterday? My happiness is you Manvi. You don't have to feel guilty about anything. If you really want to see me happy, please just take care of yourself, and stay with me. As long as I have your love, I can bear anything that the world throws at me he said pulling her into a hug. "I am going to get your breakfast; do you want me to have Ma get you anything else from home?"
As soon as he said Ma, she was numb. Yesterday when he put the sindoor on her, it didn't even occur to her what their family had thought. What would the Vadheras think of her, she ruined their son's life. This guilt had to end, Manvi looked at the ring Virat put on her finger and threw it on the floor shocking Virat. She was about to wipe the sindoor off when Virat stopped her and held her hand. "Manvi please, just listen to me, stop making your self feel so guilty" he begged, but with no use, she just pushed his hand away and yelled at him to leave her alone. He married her to support her through this, not make her emotionally weak, but he knew he had to leave, if he stayed in the room any longer it would just make her even weaker with all the tension. With a heavy heart he left the room in tears and just prayed to god she would understand soon. Kadambari Chachi looked at Virat who walked out distraught and then walked into Manvi's room with her food. She saw the ring on the floor and then looked up to see Manvi cyring her heart out and teared up understanding what happened. She knew Manvi's selfless nature and was worried she would have this reaction but didn't have the heart to stop Virat yesterday.
Kadambari Chachi: "Itna pyaar karte ho tum Virat se" she asked in complete awe at their selfless love. "You want to send Virat away just so that he can live a better life Manvi?" to which Manvi just cried even more. Chachi bent down and wiped her tears and gave her a hug.
Manvi: I can't do this to him Chachi, I can't she screamed, her frustration coming out in the hug.
Chachi: Manvi beta, it is your decision she said picking up the ring on the floor. But please listen to me first. I saw Virat's state yesterday; he was broken completely without you. You are his happiness beta, he is inconmplete without you, and you are incomplete without him Manvi. If you really want to see him happy, please usko itna bada daard maat do she said placing the ring on the table in front of Manvi. As she got out the food, Manvi looked down and finally spoke.
Manvi: Chachi, does everyone know Virat's decision, are they really mad she said worried.
Chachi looked up at her and smiled. "Manvi, Virat asked bauji before doing any of this. If you are worried that we are mad at you, aisa soochna bhi maat. Beta, tumse achi bahu humko mil hi nahi sakti" she said feeding her a spoon of kheer and explaining how Virat convinced dadaji.
Flashback
After Pinky Chachi walked into the room and saw Virman hugging and Virat saying I love you, Virat and Viren and left immediately for the Vadhera house. As soon as they got in, Virat asked to talk to dadaji..
Virat: Dadaji, what I am going to tell you is going to be a big shock, aap please gusa maat hoye. Dadaji, I love Manvi, and I always have and will. I confessed to her in Goa, and she loves me too. Dadaji, she needs me now. Dadaji, I don't care that Manvi has cancer, I want to support her, I want to help her through this. Mujhe Manvi se shaddi karna hai, please Dadaji mana maat kijye.
Dadaji just looked at him in utter shock.
Dadaji: VIRAT, tum jante bhi ho, tum kya bol re ho? Hamara samaj mein ladka ladki ki beech shaadi paka hone ne phele bate takh nahi hote. Aur wese bhi, Manvi ko to abhi cancer bhi ho sakta hai, aise mein tum Chaudhary parivar ko inta tension kyun dena chaate ho, Shaadi koi masak thodi hai he asked angrily.
Virat: Dadaji, please gusa maat hoye, please dadaji mein Manvi ki bina nahi rahunga. Mein shaadi karke Manvi ki ilaj ki zimidari lena chaata hun, please Dadaji. Mere paas abhi paise bhi hai, mera school time mein meine jo internship kiya, uska paisa abhi hai mere paas. Manvi ka bhout acha tarah se khayal rakhunga, I promise dadaji, lightly bilkul nahi lunga, bas mujhe ashirvad dijye he said bending down to his feet with tears dripping from his eyes.
Dadaji looked at the Virat in front of him shocked. Virat was always so rebellious and took everything lightly, refusing to take up any of his responsbilites, but the Virat that was bending in front of him was different, he wanted to take up his responsiblites, he wanted to be mature. Dadaji smile at the change that Manvi brought in him and realized it was for the best.
Dadaji: Virat beta utho, I didn't want to hurt your feelings he said wiping his tears. Manvi meri beti jaise hai, I didn't realize you were so serious about this. I am very happy beta, Manvi has changed you for the better, you have become so responsible and mature, gharv hai mujhe tum par beta he said hugging him. Virat looked over at his brother and decided he would break the news of Virika too, he understood Viren's pain of not being able to openly console Jeevika. "Dadaji, ek nahi, aap ko do shaadi karna parega", Bhai aur Jeevika di ka bhi he said smiling. Dadaji just looked at Viren and Viren just nooded, happy that Virat broke the news. "Mujhe Manvi aur Jeevika se koi aitraz nahi hai, lekin woh dono meri dil ki bhout khas hai, I really hope you two are serious he said looking strictly at Virat and Viren.
Virat and Viren: Dadaji, we promise they said pleadingly, but overjoyed that they had convinced him. Dadaji finally agreed knowing that Jeevika and Manvi were the perfect daughter in laws for the family. He took both of back to the hospital where Virat took his bessings and placed the sindoor on Manvi, marking her as his.
Flashback end.'
Manvi teared up with the hearing the story, Virat had went through so much just to be with her; all he wanted was her, why she couldn't understand that. She hugged chachi tightly "Chachi, I am so sorry, please mujhe maaf kardijye. I promise, as long as I am alive, mein Virat ko duniya ki sari kushiya dungi" she promised Chachi and herself. Chachi teared up hearing her last sentence, "Manvi, tum bilkul thik ho jau gi, I promise" she said as hugged her again.
Virat walked in after a while and looked at chachi, "Chachi aap ne subha se nashta nahi kiya, I will send Bhabhi in here"
Manvi looked up and felt guilty; Virat's eyes were swollen red from crying. Chachi kissed Manvi's forhead and left, but Manvi's thoughts were still on Virat. Virat was going to leave when Manvi held his hand.
Manvi: Virat, can you put the ring back on she asked holding it up to him, her eyes filled with tears pleading for him to forgive her for all the pain she gave him.
Virat smiled and placed the ring back where it belonged, on his wife's ring finger.
He pulled her close and just held her close to him, relishing their closeness. "She is going to be ok, I won't let anything happen to her" he promised himself as he controlled the tears that were fighting to come out seeing her state. "Virat where is di, she asked as she pulled away, I wanted to congratulate her on her engagement, Chachi told me what happened yesterday at home, subha se kaha gayab ho gai" she hadn't seen her sister since the morning and was exteremly worried now.
--Chaudhary House--
Jeevika ran in crying, trying to control herself after Viren dropped her off. She had just got done talking to the doctor. Manvi's biposy was supposed to be tomorrow. The doctor in charge had put Jeevika as the head surgen for Manvi's operation. Jeevika was overjoyed she could be with Manvi throughout the process, but she was worried sick at what would happen if she made a mistake. Viren walked into see Jeevika completely broken down, tears streaming non-stop from her eyes.
Viren: Jeevika, kya hua he said pulling her up.
Jeevika: Virenji, Mannu ka biopsy has been assigned to me. What if I fail, meri mannu mar jayegi she said looking down. I will never forgive myself if I mess up Manvi's operation she screamed as she threw herself in his arms cyring uncontrollably.
Viren: Jeevika, listen to me. You have done so many operations successfully and you will do this one twice as well. The patient you are going to operate on is not just a random patient, it's your sister Jeevika, Manvi tumhari behen hai, and no doctor will be as determined as you to save her. I am glad they have Manvi's case handed to you, she will be in the hands of the best oncologist I know, Meri Dr. Jeevika Vadhera he said hugging her close.
Jeevika calmed down immediately in his embrace and nodded her head. She had to do this; she had to do it for her Mannu. When their mother was on her death bed due to cancer, Jeevika had promised her that she would take care of Manvi like her own daughter; she would take full responsibility for Manvi. "Meri Mannu ko mein bacha ke rahungi" she promised herself as she pulled herself together.

Jeevika: Virat, Mannu kaise hai she asked as she came back to the hospital to prepare for the operation tomorrow.
Virat: She is a little better bhabhi. Bhabhi, I wanted to talk to Manvi's doctor for tomorrow, I know Manvi doesn't like injections; I wanted to ask if me or you could sit in just to give her support he asked.
Jeevika looked a little worried but then felt Viren's hand clutching hers, she looked to the side to see him holding her hand, giving her strength and she smiled "Virat you are looking at her, Manvi ki tension maat lo, uski operation ki zimidari meri hai, aur yeh operation success ho ke rahega" she said fighting her tears. Virat just looked at her in shocked but then hugged her tightly. "Bhabhi thank you so much, Manvi aap ki haaton mein hai, toh I have no tension about her surgery he said feeling much better that Jeevika would be with Manvi during the process."
Jeevika: "Chalo ab, I think the doctor wants to see us she said leading him to the doctor's cabin.
Doctor: Dr. Jeevika, are you sure you will be able to handle the case emotionally, the case is very sensitive and I understand Manvi is your sister the doctor asked worriedly remembering Jeevika's state earlier today when she told her she had been assigned the case.
Jeevika: Doctor I promise, this operation is going to go just as you want it. My emotions will not harm a single part of it. Mannu means too much to me for me to loose her over my emotions, I promise I will walk out saying "operation success" she said confidently, determined to cure her sister completely. Talking to Viren calmed her down, and she knew that when Manvi was in the operation room, she would be way too nervous of the result to just stay outside. She trusted the doctors but knew Viren was right, they would not be as determined as she was to save her because Manvi was her sister.
Doctor: Ok Dr. Jeevika, you come with me to discuss the case. Mr. Vadhera, please make sure she has food and water properly today, the operation will be early tomorrow morning but she can't have food 12 hrs prior she warned to which Virat just nodded his head.

Virat walked in the room to see Vanshika and Pinky Chachi sitting with Manvi now and Kadambari Chachi and Swamini bua behind them.
Vanshika: Manvi beta, laddo khaugi she asked knowing Manvi's sweet tooth. She gently placed a laddo in Manvi's mouth and had her bite a small piece.
Manvi looked up and smiled, "Aunty, thank you bhout acha hai,"
Vanshika cupped her face, "Manvi, aab aunty nahi, Ma bolo, aab tumhari Maa hoon na she said smiling. Manvi blushed and just gave Vanshika a hug. Kadambari Chachi, Swamini bua and Pinky Chachi also came over and fed Manvi a bit of the ladoo. Vanshika then continued and fed her breakfast and forced her to rest and Virat to go home to shower and get fresh. When Virat got back, he sent Vanshika and Pinky Chachi home to eat and sat down with Manvi.
"Manvi, how are you now he asked worried that she was still having problems breathing."
"Better", she replied not able to say much more. She seemed a little stronger than the morning, but Virat still was worried sick for her, he hated seeing all these IV's in her. He was glad the oxygen masks were finally off now though since Manvi could breathe somewhat properly now.
Virat just held her hand and asked her if she was worried about the surgery tomorrow. They talked about it for a while until Kadambari Chachi came back to check on her. Virat left her with Chachi to talk and sat outside the room just watching them. After a while the doctor said one person could stay with her again overnight and Chachi was about to stay when Manvi held her hand, "Chachi woh" she said nervously
Chachi: "Manvi kya hua? Kuch Chaiye" she asked her sweetly
Manvi: "umm, ha aap Virat ko andar bula sakte hai" she asked her nervously.
Chachi smiled at her innocence, "Manvi beta, thik hai, mein Virat ko bulati hu" she said happy Manvi had finally accepted Virat's decision.
As soon as Virat came in and sat down, Manvi held his hand, "you are not going to leave me again are you, can you stay with me for the night?" she asked weakly as she pouted and hugged his hand to her cheek. Virat smiled, "so, the happiness of be being my wife was finally sinked in," he asked her happy that she finally realized how much he needed her. "I am not going anywhere, I have every right to be in this room with you, I love you Manvi" he said kissing the top of her head. Manvi teared up hearing him talk so happily, she shattered him in the morning, she broke all his happiness and shouted at him, she told him to leave her, and if she had cancer she would be leaving him with a life of lonliness yet he still loved her. "Kyun karte ho mujhse itna pyaar Virat, kya milega aise mari hui cancer patient se pyaar karke," she asked him eyes filed with tears. "Manvi pyaar mein koi lena dena nahi hota, pyaar toh bas dil se kiya jata hai and I love you Manvi, I always will no matter how hard you try to push me away, yeh emotion meri dil me rahega" he said as he kissed her hand, "ab please your biopsy is tomorrow, please get some rest". She smiled back at him and felt comforted but weak with all the medications and finally fell asleep, still holding his hand tightly against her own, assuring herself that he was with her. He needed her and loved her unconditionally and she needed him just as much, they were incomplete without each other she finally admitted to herself.
