How many new years in a year?

Dear Friends!

You may wonder what the hell is going on.How many new years in a year? Is the question making any sense.Let me explain.

Jan 1st of every year is a new year to almost of us.Because we follow some callender called Gregarian callender.At the same time depending on religions some people have a new year according to the calender that religious people follow.Some times,depending on the state they belong to new year changes(Say Ugadi is new year for Telugu people,gudipadwa for others and so on).

So in your leisure,please post about the new year in your place and your religion .So that we all can know about different new years.

same here, our new yr is also after Diwali

I'm a maharashtrian so we have Gudi padwa.
btw a happy new year to one and all!

Islamic new year is just afer 3 weeks. (this time somewhere in jan. but not always)

its goin to be 1428 (is called hijri calender and A.H.) and the first month is muharram.

based on when prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) migrated frm makka to madinah (cities in saudi arabia).

No standardisation can eliminate as the others are more or less traditional..

for us bengalees....we in general celrbrate new year on 14th April!! We call it Subho Nababorsho!!
