I don't get it

has Onir divorced shalini or are they still married? and did punir ever actually get married? (didnt they have a court marriage or something) I don't understand if shalini and Onir are divorced then why Purvi is having problems with this. honestly this show stopped making sense a looong time ago but i don't get this specific track.

Even im not able to understand.. Onir saya 'pehli patni' does that mean he is still married to her or is she an ex? Shalini is onir's first wife, there is no mention of ex- wife. So purvi onir marriage is null and void. Purvi did right, she can't live with onir if his first wife is alive. In the eyes of law, purvi cannot be onir's wife. I think onir must have done something shady and the court marriage also might be some fake thing...

ohhh thanks for clearing that up. but wasn't onir shown to be in love with purvi? does he probably have some underlying reason for this?

Pehli biwi or First wife could mean Ex Wife too..

There can be 2 possibilities, either Onir is negative, or he is positive..

Is polygyny (his is where one man may have more than one wife) allowed in India? This should not be confused with polygamy ( where both spouses are allowed multiple spouses)

For Hindus living in India, bigamy or polygamy is illegal. Man can have only one wife at a time. So 2nd or 3rd marriages are all illegal. But even then, the first wife has to go to civil court and complain abt the bigamy to get her husband arrested to punish him. Police wont come knocking on the doors of a bigamist. For Muslims living in India, I think its according to Islamic laws which allows upto 4 wives at a time. India being secular, allows their religious laws to be implemented and civil court doesnt interfere.

Thanks Pallavi for the clarification. So, seeing that Onir and Purvi are hindu this would mean that in terms of hindu law Onir could not have married Purvi under any circumstances. Now if memory serves me correctly Onir and Purvi married in court and did not do the religious wedding. If Onir married Shalini through a religious marriage only and Purvi through a civil court marriage which one would hold more weight?
