Loved this update. thanks zoya 🤗Looks like Arjun's "You're already alone" hit quite a weak nerve in Arohi... Is there a back story with Arohi? yes... will be revealed in the next updateBut looks like Arohi has certain issues who doesnt?! even arjun does... dont you think?Good that Arjun has realized how Arohi is quite a sensitive issue.. And Arjun defending Arohi in front of Shanti was an icing on the cake.. ye toh hona hi tha 😉Aww Nats had such a good dose of laughter... D-Nats are adorable.. i love them too 😳Hopefully D's upcoming convo with Arjun would shed some light on Arohi and pave way for Arjun to take the next step to get closer to Arohi.. yes it will! not only that, arjun will be the one taking charge now... bohat hogaya chuhey billi ka khel 😆

PART 20
"Arohi kaisi hai?"
Arjun stopped eating and looked at his dadi. She was eating her food without sparing him a glance.
"Kaisi hai… matlab?"
"Matlab aaj jara bujhi bujhi si lagi mujhe… isliye poocha!"
Dadi was still concentrating on her food and that irritated Arjun. He held her hand holding the spoon, stopping the dal-chawal from reaching her mouth. She looked up in surprise.
"Aapko kyu laga voh bujhi bujhi si hai? Aap miley they ussey?" Dadi frowned at the question.
"Mein kaise milungi bevakoof!" Snatching her hand back from his, dadi continued eating. "Bas messages pe baat hoti hai hamari aur shaam ko voh thik se jawab nahi derahi thi. Toh socha tu toh usse roj milta hai issliye tujhe puchlu…"
Messages. So Dadi was the one messaging Arohi!
A 36 watt bulb, burned brighly in Arjuns dull brain. He felt a part of his heart ease out with this piece of information. He remembered Arohis smiling face as she chuckled like a kid looking at her phone. A small smile formed on Arjuns lips and then immediately dropped when he remembered her face, the last time he had seen her. There was no trace of smile… only a deep gash of pain flashing in her midnight black eyes… pain that he had given her.
"Nahi voh… mein… voh kisi meeting mein gayi thi aur fir ghar chali gayi. Mein mila nahi usse."
"Milke bhi kya ukhaad leta! Mein bhi kisse pooch rahi hu… bhul gayi thi ki iss maamle mein tu ekdam jhalla hai… voh bachhi pareshan bhi hogi toh bhi tujhe nazar nahi aayega." Shaking her head at her useless grandson Dadi picked up her empty plate and went inside the kitchen.
"Zaruri nahi hai ki har cheez jo dikhayi de, vohi poora sach hai. Kabhi kabhi samne khade sach ke peeche ki sachhayi dekhna bhi zaruri hota hai. Tum apna dil hatheli pe leke kyu ghoomte ho Arjun? Kyuki tumhe usske tootne ka koi darr nahi. Lekin agar kisiko dil tootne se bohat jyada darr lagta ho, toh voh insaan kaise behave karega… kabhi socha hai???"
Arjun continued to stare at the wall in front of him. Arohis sad face refused to leave his memory. With a heavy heart, Arjun spoke out in a low whisper to an empty room. "Aapne thik kaha dadi…mein sachme bohat bada jhalla hoon…"
Late at night… Arohis room…
Arohi rubbed her eyes, closed them for a few seconds, and opening them, started typing again. Only when a tall glass of milk was kept next to her laptop, did she stop to look up at her mother.
"Mujhe koi bahana nahi sunna. Ye dudh khatam hojana chahiye. Aise toh teri tabiyat kharab hojayegi. Abhi peene ki zid nahi karungi lekin mein sab kaam khatam karke aane se pehle pi lena… thikey?"
Arohi smiled in return when her mother brushed her hair lovingly with her hand. Staring in her daughters eyes for a few seconds, Amrit Ahluwalia went out of the room, shutting the door behind her. As soon as she heard the door click, Arohis smile waned and she returned her focus to the screen of the laptop. Even though her eyes were staring at the words, her mind was not comprehending them. She could as good as be staring at a blank wall. The events of the day kept revolving in her in her mind and kept distracting her focus. Just then, the red light of her blackberry blinked and she picked it up in a flash.
She had received a message.
At this time in the night, only few people could message Arohi. Taking a deep breath she opened her inbox and the message.
Im really sorry… I know I should've been more careful. But I promise that this will never happen again. Also it is my reponsibility to repair the damage. This mistake will not repeat again… ever!
-D
Arohi blinked rapidly trying to stop the tears from forming in her eyes. She did not understand why she felt like crying. Was it because she had vented out her anger at D? Or because dadi had guessed from her messages that she's upset and tried to ask her, but Arohi avoided it? Or because Arohi could see the question in her mothers eyes but could not confide in her? Or because when her phone blinked, somewhere in her heart she wished that someone else had messaged her???!!!
Arohi slammed her phone on her desk in frustration. She hated this feeling of not knowing something. She did not know what she was supposed to think… do… or even feel! But all she knew was that she was not liking this… this situation that she was in. She did not like feeling hurt and helpless and god knows how much she had protected herself till now. But everything was going out of her control… including her own thoughts and actions!!!
Saving the email on her laptop, she shut it down. Picking up the glass, she drank the milk in one go and kept the glass back down. Taking a deep breath, she picked up her phone and started replying.
NO… im sorry! I know I made a mistake by blaming you for everything but I realise now that I was wrong. You know how I am, so please don't bother yourself with whatever I said. Lets sort this out in office tomorrow. You have a good night.
-Aru
Pressing the send button, she kept the phone back on her desk and went to the washroom to prepare for sleep. Wiping her face with the towel when she came out, Arohi was surprised to see her dad in her room, looking at all the childhood memories displayed on her wall in the form of photographs. He turned to look at his daughter when she stood next to him. Smiling at her, he turned his attention back to a particular snap where a 5-year old Arohi was sitting on a chair, her feet hanging below as they could not reach the ground. In her lap was seated, her 18-month old brother, whom she had held tight with her chubby little hands.
Sanchiits eyes was scrunched up and his mouth wide open in a wail but Arohi was sporting a wide toothed grin. The baby was clearly uncomfortable, being held by a child, whose lap was small to fit an 18 month old plump baby. But the elder sister was happy holding her brother, her watery eyes twinkling in pure joy. Arohi held her fathers arms with both her hands and rested her head against his shoulder, as both of them looked on fondly at the picture.
"Pata hai Arohi… Sanchit toh hamesha apne feelings batane mein champion tha. Iss photo mein bhi dekho, kaise gala faadke ro raha hai."
Arohi smiled and nodded her head. He really looked very irritated. Even today it was easy to know what was going on with him by just looking at his face.
"… lekin tum... tumhare dil ki baat jaanne ke liye aaj bhi tumhari aankhon mein jhaakna padta hai. Dhoondna padta hai, ki meri beti kyu udaas hai."
Arohi lifted her head and looked at Sudhir. His kind understanding gaze made her want to cry again. Gulping hard, she left his side and went to sit on her bed. Sudhir Ahluwalia followed his daughter. Sitting next to her, he held her hand.
"Tu agar nahi batana chahti toh mein force nahi karunga. Lekin tum jaanti ho ki koi baat apne dil mein rakhne se…"
"Aaj mein… meine Dhondu pe chillaya dad… sabke saamne!"
She looked guiltily at her father but his eyes remained soft, urging her to continue.
"Factory ke problem ke baare mein mujhe jab pata chala tab mein waha chali gayi… Dhondu bhi aya wahape. Iss naye project ki wajah se mein main plant pe concentrate nahi kar paarahi hoon. And a small negligence caused a big blunder. If only someone had checked the last week reports, this could have been avoided. Lekin… maine apna saara gussa D pe utaara. Usse kaha… kaha ki if he cant handle responsibility then he should just tell me and I will hire a new PA."
Sudhir Ahluwalia caressed his daughters hands. The pain that she had given her best friend, had come back ten-folds to her… but this was Arohi. In her fits of temper, she tend to hurt people and then feel bad about it later.
"Tujhe pata hai Arohi… uss tasveer mein sabko teri smile teri khushi dikhayi deti hai. The happiness of holding your own brother on your lap. But only a few people can see the tears in your eyes which you tried to hide. You were sad that your own brother did not want to sit in your lap for the photograph. Your 5 year old mind could not understand that the baby was just uncomfortable, it had nothing to do with you. But you still felt bad about it. Do you even remember, that for weeks after that, you used to make it a point to play with Sanchit every single day? Just to make him smile."
Arohi smiled sadly. She did not remember all this but her mother often mentioned her antics when she was a child. She had been very sensitive since childhood and that had worried her mother a lot.
"Even this is not about you beta. Yes you made a mistake and you should apologise to D. But you are human. You are bound to make mistakes. So if you neglected something in the factory then its not just your responsibility. That means I need to reduce your burden so that you can concentrate on your new project more. We will have a meeting tomorrow and appoint a team to directly report to you on all the old projects that you were handling. This new venture with the Singhanias, is not just your dream, it is mine and Rudras dream too. So stop taking everything so personally. We are all a team here, ok?"
Arohi nodded obediently. "Ive already apologised to D."
Sudhir smiled and hugged Arohi from the side, placing a kiss on her hair. "That's like my girl. Now don't think too much about this. Just remember this and donot repeat it again. Friends like Danish are too precious to hurt."
"I know… I will remember that!"
Sudhir got up from the bed and walked towards the door, but he turned before stepping out. "Aur koi baat toh nahi haina beta?"
Arohis heart jump started. There was really nothing that she could hide from her parents. But she could not tell them this.
"No dad. And please tell Maa also that she can stop listening from outside and come inside to wish me goodnight."
The door opened slowly and a smiling Amrit walked inside. Picking up the empty glass from the table, she kissed her daughter goodnight.
"Kal Preeti Khurana ki mehendi aur Sangeet ka function hai. Toh office se jaldi wapas aana hai. Abhi bata rahi hu taaki tu kal koi bahane naa banaaye."
Arohi pouted like a small child. "Jaana jaruri hai kya maa? Seedha shaadi mein kyu nahi jaa sakte?"
"Shush! Jaruri nahi hota toh uss mehenge designer se itne mehenge kapde nahi silvaate."
"Lekin uss suit ke back fitting mein kuch problem thi… toh maine alter karne ke liye kaha tha. Aur ab tak voh alter karke…"
"... aa chuka hai!" Amrit clarified before her daughter came up with any more excuses. "Bag mein hai, tere cupboard mein rakha hai. Maine dekha nahi hai, lekin usska assistant keh raha tha ki ab fitting thik hai."
Arohi mentally cursed Sanjay and his assistant. She hated dressing up and attending functions but looked like she had no alternative now. Bidding her parents goodnight, she got inside the duvet, her mind distracted from the earlier issues, with the new problem at hand.
3.30 am… Arjuns flat…
The only noise that could be heard was of the clock ticking away. Arjuns gaze was stuck on the blades of the ceiling fan, that were rotating above his head. He pulled the covers closer to his neck and put his palms behind his head. His eyes had become red due to the fatigue of the entire day and lack of sleep, but his mind refused to let him close them.
"I know the difference when Arohi is angry at me and when she is yelling at me. So I know that she was upset about something else and it has to do with you. I don't know what you said to her but whatever it was, I think you've hurt the one person that I care about the most. And for even a moment donot think that Im venting my frustration on you because of what happened at the plant, because I am not a revengeful person."
Arjun closed his eyes and opened them again. The only way he could make out that Danish was angry was the fire in his eyes and his rigid stance. Otherwise his voice was calm and his words not harsh, just plain blunt. Arjun had promptly told him about the discussion between him and Arohi, which he had not even confided with Nats. If Arjun was honest to himself that he had taken a small step back when he saw the fire in D's eyes burn brighter after his confession.
"Noone likes to be alone Arjun… noone wants to be alone. Arohi has her family with her but there was a time when she was surrounded by friends. She was the most famous girl in my school and I was the most silent boy. She was the only one who bothered to start a conversation with me and shes the reason why we became such good friends. The Arohi that I had said goodbye to when she left for Europe for further education, was a different person who came back after four years. The bubbly, full of life and easy going Arohi was lost to me forever."
Arjun sat up with a start and brushed his hand through his hair. Getting out of bed, he grabbed the bottle of water and went near the window. The soft breeze blew on his face, soothing his worry lines and he drank water from the bottle to calm the rumbling in his stomach. As minutes passed, he was feeling more and more guilty for what he had said to Arohi. When did he go from discussing their attraction to hurting her so much? Just because she cancelled their lunch plans… so what!
"We used to call her the girl with the golden spoon in her mouth. She had everything… a strong family background, loving parents, intelligence, beauty, positive energy, ambition… but the quality that I love the most about her is her sense of loyalty. Once Arohi decides that you mean something to her in her life, then she will not leave your side even if you push her away. But when a person is proud of a something, god likes to puts him or her to a test."
Arjun was very well familiar with what D was talking about. He himself had paid the price in life to get to where he was today. And he also knew how much it hurt. And yet he had subjected Arohi to the same kind of pain which he would not even wish upon his enemy. Apologising to Arohi was the most important thing to him now… almost as important as telling her how he felt for her.
"Sometimes I wish that I had told her not to go abroad. When she left for Europe we all knew that she will make it big… and she did! She was a gold medalist in the university and graduated with honours. She had everything set for her… including the person she loved, whom she was supposed to marry…
Until she caught him in bed with her best friend… one day before they were to come to India for their wedding."
more details in the next part... please tell me what you think of this small twist 😳 and what should arjun do after this revelation???
