Thank you S! For letting me res, and breaking my 500post fast that I stubbornly kept holding onto. Thank you for giving such a brilliant last tale (first season) that I could not only relate to, but reminded me of all our million art history and gallery conversations in the beginning, when it all began..Thank you most importantly, for waiting for me to un-res super patiently.
As soon as I read the first line, and realised where we were, I was transported back to my italian cafe days, with brioches and truck loads of cappuccos (and after midday only cafes, unless you want to get scoffed at!), paying extra just because I was using the "free wifi" to try catch the latest IPK episode. And hold up by the end of the first paragraph I am splattering my pretend cappucco, cause these apparent silent lurkers on the via's of Italia are the ones who had got me so psyched about watching the show in the first place! I just LOL at how absurd this actually sounds written up, but then again I learn to embrace my inner phangirl like you would want me to..
So I read it all and flaunt my hands just like the old italian men I so love (the ones I tend to avoid, seedyness galore!) and exclaim at 50miles per minute..O Mamma Mia! Che bella storia! Tranquillo, fino..Amore!
Ok lets back-track a little to why..I find this as epical as I do, weird coincidences apart.
This story reminded me of a french postcard I found:
Dans une ville qu'on aime
On a toujours quelqu'un qu'on aime.
In a city you love, you always have someone you love..(or there abouts)
Rome. Roma. Has been everything you described here, I couldn't have it put it more eloquently. Add to that a couple I love, voila. Who'd have thunk? But you...
Just like you so easily put A+K in hogwarts, than in rebecca..this seemed no different. Perfect execution hamesha. The funny thing about all these worlds is that you either hate them or you love them..there is no in between, but with ArHi there are all shades of inbetween..some of us are here because we wanted to LOL at them, others were here because we wanted to rabba-vey with them.
This story is a bit like the golden rule of Rome, go explore it with a good tour guide, if you dont well..there are good chances you might be lost completely and end up hating it. And you are the perfect tour guide S, what with your knowledge of renaissance art, history..I followed you around like those kids the pied piper. Where were you when I was walking inside the Uffizi dammit?!
Where do I even begin with the locations and art work you have decided to discuss?! The parallels...
San Peitro in Vincoli - two chains miraculously fused together, or thats what we'd like to believe!
(the basis of our love story)
Michelangelo's Moses - rises in anger! vs rises in awe and humility!
(the dichotomy of our lead)
Capitoline Hill looking at the Forum - julius ceaser's assassination
(a potential place of execution of our most hated scene on the show)
Trevi Fountain - coin throwing, wish making
COLOSSEUM - damaged several times and yet stands as a testament.
(exactly how I feel about the show, their relationship..the reason its stands is thanks to writers like you, who never let us forget how epic it really was!)
Then there is obviously our phellow phanki. The way she takes us around is the kind of first impressions I got of the characters in the show too..I was always team Kay! And no matter hot drool worthy A was (white shirt, leather jacket et al..), I was still a bit sceptical of his ASRness.
Then her relationship wale observations:
battle of words hamesha thats how it begins,
his smirking one way eye sax,
the falling and holding on,
Arnav pulling her away..(we all know how that always ends up!),
the faraq padta hai arguments kabhi bhi kahin bhi!,
you reversed the shyam terrace MU! OMG,
The telepathic jibes and non-communication a forte of Arnav,
His actions speak louder than word speech..(until the very freaking end!),
the silent jacket draping over her while it rains.
This was perhaps one of the most unconventional, non-cliche ways to erase memories and give a legit reason for the so called "suicide" attempt. Again tumhe aise ideas aate kaha se hai?!
A special mention to the rain scene in the end. There is just so much tranquility in the way you wrote that, even in the midst of standing in the ground that has witnessed deaths a dozen, and violence unparalleled.
Some tid bits:
Just had to LOL - the "your anger isn't sophisticated" jibe
Hawww - at not being able to stand Italian food.
What makes your stories even more special are the author's notes that you post below it! The pheelz intensifies. As usual you delivered such a well-rounded story and your brand of subtle love has grown on me..and also the special way you add your ipk-esque stuff to it, not completely visible on the surface but always lingering.
This was a perfect tribute to a city and a couple..both of which are very much "old" souls who are stuck in the modern world.
Thank you thank you thank you =)
