"Not again," thought Zoya to herself, how could she be tricked not once, but twice by Tanveer. She knew there was something wrong, Tanveer knew that she knew, but everyone else thought she was hallucinating. She wasn't going crazy, she had to find proof against Tanveer, not because she was jealous, but she wanted to save her future family from harm.
As it grew darker outside, Zoya became more restless, why would a childhood friend lie? What was Tanveer hiding, and more importantly, why? In the midst of all her thinking, she fell asleep.
The next morning Zoya's alarm clock annoyed her until she got up. She lazily rubbed her eyes, put on her slippers and headed towards the kitchen. She needed food first. Anyone looking at Zoya in that moment would think she's mad, and that's exactly what Asad Ahmed Khan was thinking staring at her from behind the pillar. Zoya was eating cold leftover pizza and drinking coffee, how could someone drink coffee with pizza, Asad shook his head thinking, "only Ms. Farooqi, the bechari." He emphasized the words bechari in his mind and shook his head in disbelief that someone as intelligent as his mother thinks of Ms. Farooqi as a bechari. Someone should ask him.
"If you're done standing and staring at me from afar you can come have breakfast too," Zoya interrupted Asad's thoughts. Asad mumbled an excuse, embarrassed of being caught, as he sat down in his usual spot.
Breakfast after the initial conversation was uneventful. Everyone became busy in their errands and arrangements for the day. Zoya too sprung into action, thinking of a way to solve her mystery of Tanveer.
"Will you answer the phone Zoya," Dilshad yelled from the kitchen. As Zoya headed to get the ringing phone, she couldn't help but smile at the thought of how she had become a member of the family.
She picked up the phone, "hello?"
"Hello, may I speak to Tanveer?" The voice at the other end responded.
"Can I know who this is?"
"I'm a nurse at Bhopal Charitable Hospital, the reports Ms. Tanveer requested are here to pick up."
"Okay. Thank you, I will let her know you called."
As Zoya put down the phone, the gears in her brain started spinning. The reports couldn't be about the burns; Zoya knew Tanveer had lied about being burned, and the burn from yesterday was fresh, so what was in the report? Zoya had to find out, and this time she was going to get solid proof before she told anyone anything.
