well i think that people that live abroad are maintaining their culture somewhat better than you would see in india. people here are religious and try to show their culutre because thats what makes them unique from the rest of the world. but in india i think our culture is changing currently and it is definitely becoming more and more westernized which is bad because we hv long got our independence from the Biritsh and whatever they left here is good 4 us because we learned alot but i think that we dont need to go too much and become westernized in every aspect such as daily life & life style. its good if our political parties actually westernized because it will make india a stronger country. whereas our values our concerned i think we are definitely loosing it because the new generation is not as tamed as they were previously or they r under the influence of western culutre. we should keep our culutre for what it is right now becuz thats what makes indians unique. 😳

We are not a race, we are not a society, we are not even a nation. "Our" culture is what we have drawn from the invaders, starting with the Aryans and right upto the British. Political, cultural and economic invasion is all that we know and all that we have seen.

Having said that, I would also add that we have assimilated every culture that has come our way and made it our own. Today, I suppose no culture can be called alien to us for we have seen it all, we have done it all and we have lived it all.

Wow! I love that post .

I assume by westernization she is trying to refer to west culture. There is different between living style and priorities, social life, environment, upbringing etc. etc. there are some basic differences in general between east(pakistan, india, bangladesh, nepal, srilanka etc.) and western countries, (lot of european countries, united states, canada etc.)

I agree with Jatayu. very well said 👏 Also, culture is never stagnant. When we say that we are loosing our culture, we have always been updating or changing our lifestyle, etc. since centuries.

What is culture anyway? As long as we maintain basic human values like respect, compassion, love, hard work and not become regressive it really doesn't matter what and how we celebrate. everything else is just fluff Imo.

Culture is something which evolves constantly. It is not static. Around the world every culture has gone through changes because of migration. There is no such thing as one Indian culture. We have adopted from Indo-European, Greek, Mongolian, Mughal etc. Our culture has been influenced by various religions too. Ancient India believed only in Idol worship. We have always been convivial to all the new cultures so we shouldn't have any aversion to western culture. The good and bad elements exit in all cultures. We adopt which suits us most.

Westernization,Are we losing our culture? No we are not. In fact most Indians outside of India are becoming more Indian than the Indians in India are. To tweek an old idiom, An Indian on the other side is always more Indian. 😉😉
