What culture do we (Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis) have?

We are not a race, we are not a society, we are not even a nation. "Our" culture is what we have drawn from the invaders, starting with the Aryans and right upto the British. Political, cultural and economic invasion is all that we know and all that we have seen.

Having said that, I would also add that we have assimilated every culture that has come our way and made it our own. Today, I suppose no culture can be called alien to us for we have seen it all, we have done it all and we have lived it all.

I dont know what you term westernization..

in clothing??in living style???

I would like to call it modernization as the westerns themselves didnt possess it originally.

It is always deemed okay to make use of amenities available and make ourselves comfortable..but in the midst of it we shouldnt lose our identity in trying to ape modernism..If you dont respect ur background, nobody else will

Least of all, I find many of my own acquaintances unable to speak their mother tongue which I find pathetic...

One of the funniest aspects of indian aping western customs is wearinf a suit in tropics where the climate is hot ...

when i read the title, i was thinking... didnt Maryam debate this?! 😕 now i know why its here..

a very interesting topic and a wonderful debate it was.

Nope, we arent losing our culture. Culture is evolutionary. There is no proper definition to define what culture is. It changes with time as people adopt different practices. Westernisatiion definitely has had an impact on our culture, but it never made uf lose our culture.. it has just influenced us.

will come back with more in some time

Most cultures have been evolved. no culture has been the exact same way it was 100 or 200 years ago.

I don't think we are losing our culture. I think we are just learning to adapt or take new ideas.

Partially I agree that we are losing the culture but not because of westernisation..... It is because of lack of information about out culture..... I mean I dont know why snakes have to be worshiped only on Nag Panchami day, or why holi has to be celebrated on that very day....

What I know is we play with colours on Holi day.... Is that the culture I dont think so.... There must be a reason behind celebrating Holi and why the life is made colourful on that day.... That reason and celebrations are the culture but we are unaware of the reasons and know only celebrations 😆

Bursting the crackers in Diwali is considered as culture now a days as I have seen on Aaj tak, when the journolist was asking questions to people.... but It is not in culture, Laxmi pujan, Lighting the deeps and get together of relatives is culture while crackers is just celebration while it is misconstrued as culture....

So if the information on actual culture is passed on rather than the celebrations, then our culture will again florish 😃

I don't thing we are losing our culture and Westrnizing. I have been living in Canada for last 19 years and we celebrate our festivals more than I did in India. I take my kids to temple almost every week and my parents hardly took me to the temple when I was living in India. It is very hard to teach the kids our culture if we have to take them for Hindi classes or religious classes on a daily basis because we are working parents and there is hardly any time to go somewhere on a daily basis but internet made everything so easy. My son is in Grade 11 and he reads all the Hindu God's stories on the Internet and discuss with me which is really impressing because we should encourage our kids to participate in these discussions more often.
