I find debate championships interesting if the topic interests me and rebuttals are supported by facts. At times even an interesting topic could get boring if the debate stretches too long or if I don't have enough time to go through the whole passage. One thing I abhor in debates is slang languages like fink, dis etc. I rarely get what is written. I am sure they must be using proper language in school then why torturing us with it ?

Maryam, If this question is about the recent DC announcement then it could be because of the holiday season. People are busy spreading holiday cheer and bumping old topics😆

You guys said it all.

I have read DCs since I joined DM. I have enjoyed them. I am sure making arrangements for them is hard work and participating is a hard job. Luckily, it is not thankless job as there are readers who actually read, learn and appreciate what was written. Thanks for DCs.
Some of the threads may become repetetive and boring for a while, but life is shades of gray and so is a debate. Overall, DC threads are informative & entertaining.

I don't think DC are boring. But they are challenging. I think it needs lot of commitment of time and preparation for the championships. For readers, it's nice to see if the topic is interesting and when there are heated debates 😉 All the championships so far has been awesome and like Abhijit said, it's good learning exposure.

Jatayuji, I understand what you are saying. I agree to an extend, but I think not everyone has a talent like you and Abhijit who can add some humor to dry statement. It is a talent and we love it for sure, but it's not everyone's cup of tea so we have to accept and try to find good from what we are offered.

It is fun, but at the same time it is too much work for organizers for sure. Right M & M 😉 Both organizers, participants and judges need lot of time for the championships. 😛 So hats off to all of you for your commitment and great efforts 👏 👏 We just love to read your championship 👏

DC's are highly educative....They spice up the otherwise lackadaisical DM....I dont read through the entire DC thread(lack of time),but I do read select quotes and rebuttals..Its fun!

Participation entails alot of effort, research and sincerity..I participated in the Debator Versus Debator challenge without much preparation, and thus most of my points got repetitive and my rebuttals werent upto my expectation...I'm more instinctive and not really a person who does a study before puttign down my views...I would personally love to participate in one,but I'm so hardpressed for time, that preparing for a DC is out of question.....One needs to give alot, and I cant as of now..Come May,and I'll surely participate in a DC 😃

Yes, the DC does require a lot of research and prep. 😊 You can't just wing it.

This is a very interesting topic actually. Too bad I dont have the time to work on it.
