I am proud of my Indian heritage and culture. However, I have and always will continue to point to those parts of Indian culture that are wrong IN MY VIEW, such as infanticide, sex-selection abortions, child marriages, marital rapes, beatings, dowries and other patriarchal practices and double standards imposed upon women. Only by debating and challenging tradition can we change it, otherwise widows would still be thrown on the funeral pyres of their husband's today. This does not mean bashing one's culture! If you want to engage in a sensible debate, please do, but do not make this a Ovi verses Purvi battleground.

👏👏 Love your posts! Social change only comes through challenging old customs which actually do a lot of harm to individuals and curtail their human rights!

Exactly we are all humans and we all make mistakes no matter how noble and pious we are. But how we deal with those mistakes are the problem. Women are always the loosers in such situation whereas the mean are equally responsible. Social change does not mean you are forgetting your values and religious beliefs but how you learn to tolerate those in society who may err for various reasons.

Now people are attacking innocent Pari too...Calling her najayaz and illegitimate and predicting her bleak future in a conservative India. Its like now even Pari has to pay for her parents's "sins" 😆 Attacking a little baby and her birth...Really, how low can it get?
Anyway, very soon Arjun-Purvi are going to be reunited so the matter is very sensitive right now...😉
Tempers are rising, even baby is being dragged into the whole mess...I just hope they show the reunion soon and Archana wakes up and sets things right. 😃

Don't waste a sweat as we all know that some people will never understand!!! Its mostly the woman who suffers within the country and yet people want to compare the atrocities on men in this show with the attrocities that women in the real world suffer!!

Why don't you try to make a change by talking about it to Gandhi ?
Rather than trying to tell us how wrong we are 😆
I am sure he can can pass a law or two LOL

I have always loved my culture and I am very proud of it. It's not the culture that is wrong but the traditions and false norms that the highly educated hypocrites of the society makes is wrong. Illegitimate child, women abuse this is not our culture, but the people who follow it calls it our culture.
I don't get why bringing up a child alone is such a bad deed in our society, we say no sex before marriage okay fine then follow it. In India if kisi ki beti ke saath kuch bhi bura ho toh people taunt but jab khud ki beti kuch kare toh use maaf karde. Now that is what I call cheating with your own traditions and culture.
Abusing a men and women both is wrong, but why is it that the society always says that the girl is wrong.
Culture is something that makes our society and which is a part of our upbringing and traditions is something which we make and impose it on others.
Well as example arranged marriages are a part of our culture but dowry is a tradition.
So I would say culture is not wrong but the false and forced traditions are wrong.
Overall I completely agree with you, its just that sati, female foeticide is a tradition accepted by some people but not followed by all.
And rapes/beating women is wrong doing not culture.

umm well explain me something.

what was the explicit need to say "THOSE PARTS OF INDIAN CULTURE". well it happens not only in india but it happens across the globe🥱🥱. there is nothing like these things are endorsed only in our vedas and upanishads and dont happen anywhere else.

even i strongly object to all the evils. but let me be clear that it is not INDIAN culture to do this , its human tendency all over the globe.

do u even know what actual indian culture was ? women were wrshipped., women had the right to select their own husband in swayamvara when grooms used to go and display their skills and the bride used to choose the best groom for herself. the guys had to display their skills like an object kept in the market and the girl used to select 1 and reject others😆😉. that was indian culture.

now coming to this show and 1 of the evil u mentioned i.e. beating.
if bahu is slapped then the inlaws and husband can go to jail , but WHAT ABOUT SLAPPING DAMAADS?
manav and deshmukhs were beaten up in jail even without they even touching a finger to archana. manju filed a false case of domestic violence and got them beaten up.

but when sulochana slapped manav once in his home and then twivce in public then that was highly tolerable ? that time even archana and sulochana should had been dragged to jail and beaten up black and blue with big sticks.
all skewed feminism has been portrayed and nothing else.

I am talking about Indian culture now and yes I do know what it is. It may surprise you but my parents and education have taught me well. As for the evils I mentioned, yes they occur in other countries but not to the extent they do in India. And more top the point, as an Indian girl, I am more interested in the social evils In India.
