IMDb profile |
Satte Pe Satta is a Hindi film that was released in 1982 partially based on the 1954 musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and featured some of the most prominent names of the time - including Amitabh Bachchan as Ravi (Sun) who has six other brothers -
Ravi's wife was played by Hema Malini.
The first half of the movie shows the life of the brothers who grew up under Ravi's helm, parentless and living like animals in their adult life, yet sustaining their livelihood by farming. The oldest brother Ravi falls in love and gets married through a series of romancing plots. The brothers (All including Ravi till he fell in love were misogynists) and the new woman in their lives adjust with each other and she civilizes them. Suddenly they all fall in love with a group of women and things take a turn for the worse.
The group of women is also attracted to them, however there is a physically disabled girl among them called Seema Singh (Ranjeeta) who is still single. She happens to be Ranjit Singh's (Amjad Khan) niece. Since the niece has recently turned eighteen, the uncle wants the niece dead so that he can claim all her wealth. The following part of the movie involves plots by the uncle to kill her, which involve the use of Ravi's look-alike (played again by Amitabh Bachchan as Babu). How the brothers come to Ravi's aid once he is kidnapped and replaced by Babu and if Seema will ever be able to see the end to all this, makes up the rest of the movie. Soundtrack listing

RD Burman tunes Sanam Teri Kasam's hit soundtrack that includes 'Kitne bhi to kar le sitam...' (Kishore and Asha separately), 'Jaan-e-jaan...' (a remix favourite today), Dekhta hoon koi ladki haseen...', 'Jaana o meri jaan...' and 'Sheeshe ke gharon mein dekho to...'. All the songs are very popular.
In his most fruitful year with Gulshan Bawra, RD also scores for two more musicals, Satte Pe Satta and Yeh Vaada Raha, forming a trinity of hit scores with Universal Music India, then known as Music India. The songs, sung by an assortment of singers including lyricist Gulshan Bawra, RD himself, his two assistants Basu and Sapan Chakravorty apart from Anand Kumar C, Bhupendra, Annette, Dilraj Kaur and of course fave singers Kishore and Asha. Satte Pe Satta's songs include 'Dukki pe dukka ho...', 'Pyar hamein kis mod pe hain laaya...', 'Dilbar mere...', 'Zindagi milke bitaayenge...', 'Mausam mastana...', 'Jhukaake sar ko pooncho...' and 'Pariyon ka mela hai...' .
